That's why I won't pay for movies like "Date Movie" or anything else made by the Super Phail brothers.

Pfffft. Any damage done to Dragon Ball's image and reputation in the U.S. was already thoroughly done by the English dub of the anime (as well as the behavior of some of segments of the fanbase) looooong before this movie ever came into being. I highly doubt that this will have much of an impact one way or the other.

People act as if this movie marks the first time ever that the franchise was ever disrespectfully mangled and defaced for an English speaking audience.

It already carries the stigma in the U.S. mainstream of being a loud, obnoxious, muscle-headed, kiddy testosterone-fest. It's hard to sink much lower than that, insofar as anime/manga goes.
What about the Japanese fans, and the rest of the world for that matter? Other places haven't got it this bad...

Did the other Live Action Movies kill Dragon Ball ? Did they stop new people from liking it? I bet everyday at least one new person gets into the series. If people didn't like Dragon Ball before one Live Action movie isn't going to change that. I'd rather someone pick up Vol. 1 of the manga and get into the series that way than to watch a live action movie (no matter how good it is) and get into it.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Is it actually going to extend or is this a Forbidden Kingdom "Nyoi-bo" deal?

I wouldn't worry about that, as it doesn't look like they have any expectations. After all, Hollywood has set... "precedents," when it comes to manga adaptations.

Right. Not a lot of people saw it. I guess the only people that saw the film were already established fans of the series. You know that like 98% of all the fans who are into the series don't know that a live action movie was ever made? This movie will be mainstream, Hollywood etc... Lot's of people are gonna see it unlike the original live action film.

This actually seems to be the attitude of most of the people I’ve encountered outside the fandom who’ve even heard of this thing.

But if it belongs to the bully, why would it be stuck in the middle of a sword fight with Goku?

Surely you don’t mean to say that this is the bully:

Hm, maybe the engine won’t start because the bully isn’t pure of heart, and Goku takes it off his hands?

I would consider those kind of movies an entirely different league, really. Those are actually killing Hollywood (or raping its corpse?).

Right. It'll come out, get reviews, make some money, be removed from the theaters, and come out on DVD sometime in the future. I really don't think a lot of people are going to go out and see this. It really doesn't look interesting at ALL. It'd be lucky to make 10 million on it's opening weekend.

No bullshit dude it REALLY belongs to the bully. They try to jump Goku and the car just happens to get messed up during the fight.

It's a weaboo-fu fantasy movie, so bullies have swords. And get foiled by backflipping emo kids.

A couple of you quoted me on this and never actually answered the question.

If you take the fan goggles off for a moment what about this movie looks good?

I want to know. Honestly.

Can someone tell me the origin of this term "weaboo"...? I pretend to know a little bit about internet culture, but in general, I tend to hate it and don't actually understand it :P.

Additionally, many of you have heard my rants on today's usage of the term "emo"...

I can honestly say I wouldn't think about the movie after I saw the trailer. I'd put it in the "not even remotely interesting" pile.

Uh...every movie of this type (a large number of major characters) does that. X-Men 1 and 2 did, Fantastic Four did, the Avengers movie probably will...
And just what the hell is up with that "I belong in the fast and the furious" yellow car?
Honestly? The car that appears for a second or so is a major concern?

Ehhh it just shows me that no one would know who the characters are if it wasn't for that. And no, it's not a major concern...but it is one more stupid thing about it. I doubt it will be appearing in the movie for a second...otherwise what would be the relevance of putting it in the trailer?

I too hate it for the most part, I'm not really too familiar on the term, but I've it around anime related messageboards quite a bit. Also, usage of the word emo in this day and age just pisses me off. :P

Yeah, but Dragon Ball is MUUUUCH more “culturally significant” to the Japanese than it is over here. It already has its reputation and mainstream image set into stone over there since ages ago, and it hit its nadir in popularity years and years and years before it was even commercially available in the U.S. Virtually nothing you do with it over there will likely ever create an audience and interest level as large and vast as it was back in 1989 through 1993.

This is a live action flick created by foreigners for heavens sake; if it does poorly, it will still be a great disappointment to its fans, but will likely in the long run just be shrugged off over there as little more than a curiosity, like a more high profile, bigger budget version of The Magic Begins.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

The fact I misspelled it probably didn't help, sorry. ^^;
It's "weeaboo." It apparently originates from the Perry Bible Fellowship, and (somehow) became synonymous with "wapanese" (which I'm sure is an actual English word, by now! ... right?).

I'm pretty positive it originated on the 4chan image boards. It was used as a replacement for wapanese. The word was stolen from here:

Well, they gave one to Bulma… looks like they took the “holes-in-the-head” gag a little too seriously.
Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:I would consider those kind of movies an entirely different league, really. Those are actually killing Hollywood (or raping its corpse?).
Actually, they’re supporting Hollywood. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t even bother putting them out. But people keep buying tickets, so they keep getting made. The substance of a film hardly makes any difference (except around Oscar Season); just how much revenue it takes in. They green light things that they think audiences will pay for. If people stopped paying for [Parody] Movie, they’d (thankfully) disappear.

Next we find out that Piccolo escaped because Goku was busy getting a swirly during the solar eclipse.
