I just got the VIZBIG Rurouni Kenshin volume today. I don't really care if there are only some of the color pages that were originally there. It's a well translated, uncensored book with very high quality paper and an awesome design. I only have the first original volume and haven't read past that. So, the color pages that are already there are really just an awesome bonus.

And THEN a Viz Big version of THAT.

...then follow it up with a "Super Complete Edition" that includes all the title pages.. in black and white, of course - that way they can gives us a "Super Complete Edition in Color" too.
Nah, VIZ doesn't re-release things out the ass like FUNimation does. :?

I pre-ordered the Dragonball and Dragonball Z volumes the other day at my local comic book store, they simply can't get released here quickly enough.

I actually had a look at the Kenshin volume, but my comic book store shrink wraps Manga, which is great if you're buying it (no creased corners etc) but annoying if you just want to have a look.

Hmm, since no one mentioned it here, I figure I'll bring it up.

My Kenshin VizBig came close to a week ago and something that I thought would be a problem when putting three tankoubon together actually became a problem. The binding cracked on me by the time I was done with book one; not only that, it produced some nasty looking holes on the tops of some of the middle pages where the binding cracked.

Luckily, Amazon sent me a replacement for this. The only problem is I'm afraid it'll happen once again. Hopefully it was just that one book and this won't become a major problem in the future. Just some food for thought when considering collecting these books.

Ugh!,

This doesn't bode well for the first Dragonball release (weighing in at almost 600 pages) how many pages is the first Kenshin release?

Anyway, I hope for yours and all of our sakes, that what happened to your book was just an isolated incident.

Y'know, I was wondering if something like that would happen.

Good thing I have the originals.

Well, that hasn't happened to me yet. I can only hope it won't happen with my copy. But so far it seems very durable and is in very nice shape. I'll post if the book starts to show signs of damage. I take very good care of my manga, so it should be safe to assume that there is a flaw with the book shall there happen to be any nasty bindings like you just said. But I would recommend not bending the pages and cover back to much, it's best to be safe. I tilt the pages back far enough for me to read but not to the extent that it feels like I'm putting to much pressure on the book.

The Kenshin book is just shy of 600 pages, weighing in at 584 pages. As far as how I was reading it, it was the same way I read all the manga in my collection: carefully. Viz has had some issues with binding before, so I've become quite adept at not pushing the pages back further than they had to.

*sigh* that's getting really old...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Looks like they won't just be doing VIZBIG for the Jump line alone. Just saw on ANN that next year they're going to do one for Fushugi Yugi. Know nothing about that series other than some guy had a catchpfrase in both the Japanese and English versions of the anime.

Reminds me of the old monthly Viz db/dbz releases.
(Those used to use random artwork on their covers)

Not a big fan of the font though, it looks a little plain.

I like the DBZ one a bit better than the current release DBZ logo, but otherwise it is kinda plain.

Wow. I'm really surprised by the lack of quality in those covers. We've seen that Viz has the the print rights to at least some of the Kanzeban images via Shonen Jump front covers. Sure, the pictures are classic, but there are other classic Toriyama pieces that look 20 times better than these.

These releases are looking kinda shitty to me. Maybe I'll just stick with my original 42 volumes.

I don't give a shit what the covers look like, as long as we get a full, uncensored manga.

Good point. I'm gonna hold out until Viz manages and decides to release an even better compilation of the Dragonball, Z manga. (not to say that the current VizBig editions are total crap)

I agree. Plus, it just seems like they're cramming them all together just to say they have 500-600 pages. The uncensoring is actually notthat big of deal' though, I would like to see how Piccolo talks at the beginning of Z, or if they'll just leave it like that.

"What say you" was a classic, but if that dialogue is lin the newer releases, it'll be odd.

From what I understand, Piccolo actually did talk in a more formal, archaic manner early on and slowly shifted to a more informal talk as he grew closer to the others.

Though I could certainly be wrong.
