Yea, I know. I was doing episode 7 and came to that part where King Kai was peeing with Bubbles. I was pretty sure that scene was gonna get cut. I mean, that stuff usually does but, it wasn't. It's in the TV version. So random.

If you type MKD into Google you get a few companies with that initial. I'm not a law expert by any means but maybe they wanted to avoid any legal trouble from the businesses with said initials.I don't know if that's how that works, it's just a guess.

That can also explain the free plug for Chevrolet in Episode 1 was removed. :)

I'm half-tempted to say that they whole Gohan cutting off the dinosaur's tail was mostly for time reasons, but then again, the OP was shortened to 58 seconds due to time also (and translated into English)....

I'm not sure if that's necessarily how it works. Like Blue said, there were more than one company that had those initials. That means that, after the first one, it wasn't impossible for another company to use those same initials to mean something else. The Chevrolet logo had to go because it was a Chevrolet truck and therefore obviously referencing the automobile company of the same name. Unless the MKD logo on the pump was the same as some other MKD logo, and they make water pumps, I'm not sure there would be a problem. At least, that's how I've understood it.

I could be wrong on this, but I think there is(or at least used to be) an MKD that had something to do with water pumps. I'm sure I've seen a water pump like that before, when I was younger.

Then again....I could be totally wrong...

Dragon Ball Z Kai (TV Version Edits): Episode 7 "The Battle With Ten-Times Gravity! Goku's Race Against the Clock!"

Image

Image

You would think an episode that has no major battles and everyone is off training somewhere would have the least amount of edits, right? Well, no. Here we go...

The first edit in this episode is when Gohan lands a punch while sparing with Piccolo. Originally Gohan punches Piccolo and we see Piccolo get knocked backwards. In the TV Version Gohan punches Piccolo and about 1 second is cut so that Piccolo getting knocked backwards is shortened. Then, originally Piccolo knocks Gohan off a cliff, into a river, picks him up and knocks him back in. In the TV version he knocks him off a cliff, into the river. This is how it went down...

Image

The next edit was a blood edit...

Image

Image

Meanwhile on King Kai's planet, Goku is still trying to catch Bubbles. During the chase Goku falls and yells...

Image

Then, during the same chase, Goku accidentally runs into a tree face first. The blood is edited to look lighter...

Image

Image

We then come to another big Gohan\Piccolo scene that was cut. This time the problem seemed to be with Piccolo punching Gohan and also stepping on his fingers, making him fall off a cliff. This is how it plays out on TV...

Image

The next scene we see Goku's friends training at Kami's lookout. The part where Krillin and Yajirobe spar is cut, probably due to Yajirobe biting Krillin's ass...

Image

Next, Goku has to hit Gregory with a mallet. Sometime during this training Goku says "Damn" and "Damnit"...

Image

Image

For such a nothing episode, it had almost 1 minute cut from it.

That's it for episode 7. If I don't do episode 8 tonight, It'll be up Tuesday! :D

Yeesh, yeesh, yeesh. A lot of this is like being back in 1996 again. Yajirobe biting Kuririn's ass, Piccolo stepping on Gohan's fingers. A lot of these edits are exactly the same. But then you have stuff like Gohan's swollen-over eye, which had previously had a digital eye painted over being left (mostly) untouched. But THEN you have the cut of Piccolo refusing to help Gohan out of the water, which Saban allowed to be kept in, being cut out! So, so weird. But then again, I've always held Saban as the modern standard for censorship silliness. I haven't actually seen 4Kids's anime, so maybe they're even sillier, which is why this TV version is what it is.

Kai is being edited more than DBZ was!
What the hell are they doing!?
You can't even show punches now!?

This is starting to remind me strongly of 4kids.

Why does the TV version have a different episode title font?

That font has more mass-market appeal, I'd assume. Or the other one is somehow offensive. Rather violent actually, what with all those gash-looking indents in the letters.

Often times, networks and some people have issues when things happen to small children. Then again, they had no problem having things like that happening to Aang, though he was 12.

These edits are simply getting more "ridiculous" by time to time

Hey, at least you don't have to worry about them on a home release. They are TV only edits.

Yeah, I know. I'm telling you that you don't have to get angry at the edits. They aren't for you. They are for the kids and they don't effect you is all I'm saying.

I wouldn't say the censorship is as bad as any given 4kids anime. I'd say the censorship is about as inconsistent though. There is some really weird censorship like cutting out Yajarobe biting Kuririn's ass. It's obviously meant to be a comic scene, I've seen worse on any given silly cartoon on the network.

Going back to the well pump I think it's plausible they're cutting out random initials anywhere they see them just in case they are real companies. I could see them not wanting to research a ton of companies every time random initials popped up for 4 or 5 seconds.

I really don't mind Bulma's gun edit a few episodes ago. To have a human shoot a bunch of other humans and for them to be nothing more but mildly annoyed, it sends off an iffy message. I know they're super humans but still.

At least we're not getting a bunch of self drawn impact stars this time around!

Well, we haven't gotten to any of the real fighting... don't count your chicken's fore they hatch. :p
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". Dragon Ball Z Kai (TV Version Edits): Episode 8 "Shenron Appears! The Saiyans Arrive Sooner Than Expected!"

Image

Image

After King Kai's training, he tells Goku he forgot to calculate the time it would take him to travel back on Snake Way. Goku worries that we won't be able to make it back in time to help his friends on Earth...

Image

King Kai lets Goku use his telepathic powers to reach Master Roshi. Roshi just happens to be on the toilet when Goku reaches him. The magazine is edited and there is a dialogue change right in the first shot of this scene... (Two separate images due to the visual edit)...

Image

Image

The middle part of this scene is cut. I'd say the reason for it being, because the way Roshi is talking, sounds like he could be talking about taking a crap. I guess it's considered "potty humor". :?

Image

Roshi then burst out of the door, yelling to Bulma, Oolong and Puar to get the Dragon Balls! The calendar in the bathroom is edited...

Image

Image

In the next scene, Gohan and Piccolo are training and Piccolo blast Gohan with his eye lasers. From this point on Gohan, originally had bloody marks on his face but, most of it is edited out...

Image

Image

Roshi summons the Dragon while Bulma, Oolong and Puar look on. Oolong gets scared and grabs Bulma. This was cut. Don't really know why though, there isn't anything sexual at all going on here. Maybe it was a time thing.

Image

Oolong tries to destroy the Saiyans via Shenron wish...

Image

Piccolo, seeing the black clouds, knows what's up...

Image

The Saiyans eventually make it to Earth. Their pods land in a city making for some devastation. One car is flipped over and we see... a pool of blood? OK, for the record I never thought this was blood. I always thought it was gasoline or something. I don't know man but, the color is darkened...

Image

Image

Tienshinhan and the others can sence them...

Image

And that's it for episode 8!

Hey Tanooki Kuribo, how long does it take you to do one episode?
