Wow!
I haven't really paid that much attention to this game, but after seeing the amount of detail (facial expressions and such), I can share your excitement! Have you seen Goku's expression before he launches a Kamehameha?Have you noticed Chi- Chi's shaded cloud? Man, you can control your energy blast too! Damn, I'm getting more excited than Sparking NEO! Yay!
I just saw some interesting screen shots:
Trunks with a Katana on his back. So it looks like he has access to three different swords.
It looks like there's possibly going to be a new "inside a dome house" area (at least, by the looks of things). But why is Videl's picture under her health bar black and white?
The first screenshot of Demon King Piccolo in action. Once again, the image under his health bar is black and white.

I think that "domed house" might be the gravity machine.Caracal wrote:I just saw some interesting screen shots:

The black and white faces are probably just temporary. They're not even the game-models like the rest of the portraits; they're just pictures from the manga, it seems.Caracal wrote:But why is Videl's picture under her health bar black and white?

Aw. King Piccolo doesn't seem any bigger than Piccolo. Isn't he supposed to be huge?

Possibly. Didn't consider that.Leotaku wrote:The black and white faces are probably just temporary. They're not even the game-models like the rest of the portraits; they're just pictures from the manga, it seems.
British fans will be pleased to know that Play.com has listed Super Dragon Ball Z. According to them the game will be out on the 3rd of November (:x), but at least this confirms we will be getting it. Then again last year they listed Namco x Capcom amount a list of PS2 games that were comming soon...

If they aren't temporary, I'd still be happy, the manga illustrations look awesome & give authentic DragonBall manga-style feel. I hope it's optional or if they have a "manga mode", where everything's black &Leotaku wrote:The black and white faces are probably just temporary. Gamespot has another video http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/superdbz/index.html
Ok, I just watched the Gamespot video that VegettoEX uptdated with on the main page and I could not be more exited for this game. It was an interview with the developers and they talked about a lot of original features that really got me pumped.
First of all, they said that this was not going to have the same "button mashing" gameplay as the Budokai games and that's good to have something fresh. They said that it was inspired more by the manga too and that the look was going to be different with "Booms" and other things popping up like in the comic. So obviously this is going to have a nice feel. The first thing that really grabbed me, though, was what they said about Cyborg Frieza. From my understanding, the producer said that they asked Akira Toriyama to select a unique character and create special moves for him and they would pute him in the game. So he chose Cyborg Frieza since his abillities are never fully exposed in the series. That's so cool that we are going to be able to play Cyborg Frieza with new moves that he would have had if he stuck around.
They also said that when you collect the Dragonballs and summon Shenron in story mode, you can wish other character's moves on which ever one you want. That is a great idea that is going to help players create their fantasy characters. I've got all sorts of ideas!
I love originality in DBZ games, that's why I liked Budokai 2 so much. This is going to be an awsome game, a lot better than I thought.

That reminds me, all the sound effects words that pop up in the Japanese version; are they going to be Japanese in the North American version too?Hero 004 wrote:They said that it was inspired more by the manga too and that the look was going to be different with "Booms" and other things popping up like in the comic.
And, any chance of this not being released at full price? I mean, not a budget title (around $30), but maybe like $40 or $50, instead of $60 (Canadian)?
It's a port of an arcade title, and certainly not huge in scale, compared to Budokai 3 or Tenkaichi. Of course, that doesn't mean it's BAD, but maybe the smaller size will push them to release it a bit cheaper..?
I know a lot of people (not necessarily HERE) are pretty much foolishly passing on this game before it's even out, because it has "only" 18 characters. A cheaper price might help attract those who have doubts about this game.

The sound effects don't appear in Japanese in the video game, they do appear in English. Also, your idea of the price reduction is definitely a good idea, it'll definitely get some of the "DBZ gamers" to have a change of heart in purchasing the game. $40 sounds good, but $30 would be better. I mean, just pull off a VF 4 Evolution, if you know what I mean.Leotaku wrote:That reminds me, all the sound effects words that pop up in the Japanese version; are they going to be Japanese in the North American version too?Hero 004 wrote:They said that it was inspired more by the manga too and that the look was going to be different with "Booms" and other things popping up like in the comic.

I'm not sure if I'd like the words showing up in English. Not that I can READ Japanese, but I'm just worried it might hurt the look of the game for me. Are you, by any chance, an Atari representative? Because I'd love to hear an official, lower price. I can't afford a $60 game right now. ;_;

Nope, I don't like Atari, but I can forgive them for providing us Japanese voice overs in more recent DragonBall Z games & distributing DragonBall Z games in general. And It's most likely the game will come out with $40-$50 price tag range like most normal VG releases.Leotaku wrote: Are you, by any chance, an Atari representative? After what they did to Gohan, Videl and Cyborg Freeza I'm dissapointed that so far Demon King Piccolo, Majin Vegeta and Majin Buu haven't had any simular additions. Granted I can't really think of much at the moment, but then again who here though about arming Cyborg Freeza with guns?
Demon King Piccolo is still looking great though. Makes me like him even more.
I also like the ability to give a character another's moves, like giving Goku Android 16's Rocket Punch etc.

Might be from story-mode - could just be a re-enactment. That same scene was either in the Daizenshuu or was one of the volume covers.Sebastian (SB) wrote:*Looks at screenshots* I'm so gonna get this game. Also there's was one screenshot where they had Son Goku staring down at Freeza, I can assume that part of the story mode? I guess texts are just fine...(hopes for some in game cut scenes as well, even if it's something like Sparking!)
(é) Yeah, I'm famous. Super famous. I start things.
