Seeing as how I'd really like this project to work out, I was wondering if I could jump into it even if it is a bit late in the game.

My specialty lies in video editing, and I'd be more than happy to man that position and lighten your load a bit kaboom.

I don't mean to brag, but when it comes to editing my skillz are (dare I say?) mad. 8)
There is no better combination in the world than Dragonball, Cherry Pepsi, and Cheez-Its. It's a proven fact.

... Well? :?

When's it going to be done?!

We need to set some strict deadlines here.
SSj Kaboom wrote:Yes, and thank you for being a good sport.

In terms of an FTP server, Kino linked me to Serv-U, here, a free and seemingly good FTP management program that I've been fiddling around with.
Should I download 'Serv-U' too? Will we all be using that?

I did a search on Wikipedia, and was directed here: http://www.ftpplanet.com/ftpresources/basics.htm

It gives step-by-step tutorials for their FTP program (claimed to be 'the best in the world'). It's only functional for 30 day, but then again, if we all download it at the same time, that would give us all a deadline. Or, isn't that long enough?
Oh, I recognize that one. Yeah, as far as I can tell it just works for 30 days. D: But I suppose if you wanted to download that instead, you could do so. The one I linked to is a 30-day trial as well, though it'll still run as a Home version of it afterwards (it initially runs as the Professional version).

Is the deadline you're proposing for getting all the needed material together and to everybody, or just for the project in general? I know it's been going kinda slow, but we don't want to a huge rush-job at the end just as much as we don't want it going at snail-pace, you know? (Please clarify?)

Thanks for putting up that link, in any case. I'm reading up on those tutorials now while I wait to get answers from those people I mentioned. o-o

Anyways. Work has begun on the scripts. Shouldn't take too long; two weeks... hell, maybe one week'll be enough time. (I'm allowing myself time to do a thorough job; sorry if you feel that's still too long! Just say so if you think that... D: ) I shall keep all of you posted. :D

Sounds reasonable to me... can you post a few examples of your work so we can see what you can do?
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

Serv-U was the one I downloaded and was trying to figure out. Since that one actually still works after the trial period ends, I guess it'd make sense to use it, provided we can't find something better. I doubt we'll need all the "professional" version's features.

Guys, I found a more powerful FTP server thingie.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus_FTP_Server
Download it and check it out.

It's very easy. I already managed to create a server and logged myself in using an external progrma.

So yeah.

Getting all the needed material together and to everybody.

I was thinking the actual project should be finished in 3-4 months.

Alright, since nathantheguitarist is apparently AWOL, then I guess I'm going to do the final Photoshopping of the poster myself. I've got and am working on a copy of the poster thus far, last touched by Mr.A.

The lettering's gonna be pretty general; "DragonBall Z: Battle For Earth," "A Dub by the Fans, For the Fans," etc... stuff like that. That, along with logos and junk, are gonna be towards the bottom of the poster. But I wanna put some sort of catchphrase towards the top.

So in short, here's the things I'm looking for input on for the poster...
  • Catchphrase - Something cool, but not too cliche.
  • Logo - Did we ever decided on a final for that? I'm pretty sure we didn't.
  • Coming Soon/ Summer 2007?
Also, I've downloaded and gotten Cerberus FTP Server working, and it seems to be a good, easy, free choice for a server manager. I'm looking for someone to help me test it out (i.e. I put something on my computer using it, and you access it.), and of course, we'll need someone with a few extra GBs to actually host the project footage at various stages.

Kino came up with something pretty good for the trailer, I like it. :D

Sounds good. Also, if I don't have the job for sound effects, I'd like to email what Azure gave me and other things I found to who is in charge.

Ah, yes, I almost forgot about Kino's logo there.

Oh, and sorry, folks; when I said logo, I meant for Room29 Productions, not the movie's title. I know folks were fiddling around with a few things before.

So, do you have a logo? And are you done with that poster? I'd be more than happy to help out in that department if you're still in need.

I'm working on it at the moment (got Photoshop up as I type). Here is what I've got so far. I'm also gonna make one with the original DBZ logo. As you can see, I've just got a Red Ribbon and text for the group logo.

What I kinda need help with right now is what to put on the rest of the space at the bottom to cover up the cutoff of Goku and Tullece's feet (or maybe I should just use extra glow effect and position the "BATTLE FOR EARTH" a little lower?). Also, I still need a catchy phrase to put at the top (Nice idea, Conan, but it's a little long).

That's why I'm doing the poster now; He was commissioned to, but has now apparently vanished from the face of the Earth.

Ugh. Not to knock the work, but it reminds me of a weird mix of the Funi and old Pioneer covers. Weird semi-realistic background and odd font choice.

For the feet-thing - there are a lot of options, the easiest is to simply lower Goku and Telluce to the bottom :P or you could cover their feet with a black/transparent gradient, or something more stylized.

Mmmmm... It's a work in progress; what else can I say?

When it's a multi-person project, I guess sometimes things will just clash a bit depending on the participants' styles. Mr.A's coloring is brighter and more dynamic, whereas mine is more detailed and dark.

I'm still playing around with the fonts (and the classic logo version will probably work better), so those aren't final. Any suggestions?

Also, I don't think I can really reposition Goku and Tullece, for two main reasons.

1) They're not a layer. Mr.A provided me with a flat .jpeg.

2) When she did, she told me she really couldn't get the layout to look good with them positioned anywhere else. For now, I'm inclined to agree.

If she's willing to give me the file for photoshop or whatever she used, then I might be able to fiddle with resizing or repositioning them. I might be able to make them better blend with the background, too.

Well them's my thoughts as I work. Mr.Announcer, you catch any of that?

Ouch, single layer eh? Well, You'll have to just cover the feet then. Best idea is probably to use a black-transparent gradient, it'll look more natural, like a shadow.

As for the text... That's always the hardest part. Using the original logo would get my vote, and I'd think that a more simplified font-face would be better. That said, you really have to just go through every font you have , to see if anything works better.

Try keeping it flat, adding some gradient, adding a a border or two, a drop shadow... try everything. :P

That's pretty much the plan.

I wish nathantheguitarist hadn't disappeared; he's much better at lettering and stuff.

The R29 logo is good. Mind you, the font 'Room 29 Productions' is a bit bland =P
And yeah, get rid of the glow effect for 'Dragon Ball Z'. If you're gonna use the original logo, then you may need to get rid of the Japanese katakana there. Most of the time though, the logo comes with the katakana underneath it in them balls. That'll be good.

And you know what else we need. Credits :D

I managed to extract Goku and Tullece from the original 'flat' JPEG file, and turned them into separate layers. What I've also done is turn the poster into an animated GIF, which shows the healthy Earth gradually rotting away due to the Tree. I came up with the idea after seeing that Spiderman 3 poster that changes images when you move past it. Also, in the GIF, the initial seconds of the animation show no characters on the poster- this is to show off the background only (but won't be the case for the final of this poster).

Low-quality preview:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a52/St ... /BFE-1.gif

Editable PSD file:

http://files-upload.com/261155/BFE.psd.html

(wait a few seconds, then click on the link below the advert)

If you want to play the animation, go to 'Window', then 'Animation'.

Final-slide JPEG file:

I don't know how to save the image in Photoshop (as a GIF) without the image quality being reduced.

Oh, sweet Spanky McSnapFingers! O_o

I actually kinda like how Goku and Tullece aren't there at first, if you ask me.

My PhotoShop isn't letting me use the animation; I think I have an older version.
