The Origin Of Future Trunks' Sword
This is a question that has come up many times - where did Future Trunks get his sword from? I've heard a theory that it was a gift from the Gods, but that sounds ridiculous to me.
Any thoughts?
NOTE: This is NOT the sword that Chibi Trunks is given to by Tapion. That is a different timeline to Future Trunks', "Wrath Of The Dragon" isn't even canon and if Hirudegarn had been released in Future Trunks' timeline, Trunks wouldn't have been strong enough to defeat it.

Right, my bad. I didn't check the manga. I just wondered if Bulma changed the sword or something.Rocketman wrote:Wasn't Gohan's sword a scimitar?
Edit: Ok, it wasn't, but it was also different than Trunks'.
@NeptuneKai - So he was just walking around, found some random sword and picked it up, did he? It'd have to be a pretty damn good sword for him to want to use it against enemies like the Androids, so I don't think it's just a random sword. Makes you wonder why he uses a sword anyway...if you look at my sig.

It was one of the weapons that Son WuKong rejected in favor of Nyouibo, of course! *
* I've no idea of what I speak. But tying this into Journey to the West without melting DB would be HFILa awesome.
Where's Yajirobe's sword from? Every hit he made with it did something! XD
Well, barring a Mirai Tapion "...?"-fest...
... Maybe it was thrown in the RoSaT!
No, wait. Trunks didn't know about it, did he?
Dangit!
I've got some wild theory concerning the timemachine and the Time Room (that is just a mess right now...), but if, say, the sword was used for something awesome and Popo threw it in there for safekeeping, and the RoSaT was involved in the construction of the timemachine, then voila...
... But why not in the not-ravaged timeline? Well, Trunks was one of the first to go in...

Probably made by Bulma for him. The Daizenshuu says some revolutionary technique was used to make it super sharp, which is how it was able to cut through Freeza without breaking. Take that with a grain of salt, however, as in the series we see Cold immediately finding out that sharpness had nothing to do with it.
As for movie 13's origin, it's actually debatable that it can take place in the future timeline. Trunks' preference of the sword seems to imply that it was obtained between the ages of 13 and 16. In movie 13, the DBs released Tapion (and Hildegarn) when Trunks was 7. It's entirely possible that, because of the lack of DBs, Hoi used the same method on Tapion's box as he did Minoshia's, an act which took an additional 6-9 years to open. As for Hildegarn himself, it seems pretty likely that its first form was absorbed into Tapion, who then had either Trunks or the androids kill him.

I wouldn't say it had NOTHING to do with it. Just that the weapon wasn't everything. Perhaps Trunks could have killed Cold with Yajirobe's sword, but it wouldn't be a clean, one-second slice?Dayspring wrote:Probably made by Bulma for him. It's been a while since I watched that "fight".

Personally, I'd say it was thanks to the Dragon Fist itself that Hildegarn was beaten, not just Goku.Wojak wrote:Maybe they have a problem with SSJ3 Goku defeating an enemy Gohan and SSJ3 Gotenks couldn't defeat...
As for the sword, I can dig the idea of some alternate version of Movie 13 happening in Trunks' future.

I agree with Super Ghost Kamikaze in that the sharpness probably had something to do with it. Presumably Trunks wouldn't have been able to slice Freeza in half with a twig or a rolled-up newspaper.Dayspring wrote:Probably made by Bulma for him. If Gohan had trouble holding the Z Sword at first, and he was much stronger than Trunks, how do you expect King Cold, who was much weaker than both, to be able to handle it with ease?Senzu_Bean wrote:Maybe Kaioshins actually care about Earth in Trunks's timeline.KKZ wrote:Wow, I always thought it WAS the Z-Sword, but was never sure how he actually got it.Anonymous Friend wrote:Maybe it's the Z-Sword?

Movie 13 isn't canon, and Tapion is a non-canon character, so how could he appear in the canon universe?mister yummy wrote:He got it from Tapion, albeit in a different, unspecified, manner than he did in Movie 13.

Buu did not appear because they used Shenlong to free Tapion, thus the wish to erase the population's memories of Buu was delayed. So he's still keeping hidden. Besides, Buu couldn't really help any more than the Super Saiyans could.
Hildegarn was beaten by the Dragon Fist, which is by nature a last-ditch haxx0or attack, and not by Goku's own power. Therefore Goku ISN'T stronger than Gotenks or Gohan.
There, I just made Movie 13 "canon."
