Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

I was just wondering what does his name mean?
I thought it would mean "Saiyajin Man" but a friend told me -jin meant "man" and I don't get why there would be two "mans"
Could anyone clarify this,I really don't know anything about Japanese

Technically, it's a play off of both the English and Japanese meanings of "Saiyajin".
In the storyline, though, Gohan just needed a name, and fast.
Needless to say, I'm a fan of his on-the-fly thinking. *points at screenname*

-jin, as far as I know, means "person". It's tacked to the end of nationalities and the like, anyway.
Saiya-jin, if I remember correctly, is a pun on Yasai, meaning "Vegetable". Saiya doesn't mean anything else, so really it's just to have a similar sound to Superman or something of the like, far as I can tell. I don't think there's any particular Tokusatsu reference.

I never knew that. That explains why in the dub they say "Saiyan." In English the "n" is a common in the same manner.

What? you just found out? Yeah, Saiya-Jin means Saiya Person. Actually, Japanese also use our English rules. So they either use Saiya-jin or Saiyan. Either way.

There doesn't seem to be a specific reference for Great Saiyaman himself, other than it just sounding like a generic tokusatsu hero name (in one of his daizenshuu interviews, Toriyama says his son liked tokusatsu, which is why he included the Ginyu Special-Force and Great Saiyaman as tokusatsu parodies). However, Gohan becoming "Great Saiyaman No.1" and Videl becoming "Great Saiyaman No.2" in the anime is probably a reference to
Yatterman.
