Does Trunks know about his future self?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

As a baby, yes, he was. ;þ

But yeah, I'd think he knows.

Yeah, I see no reason why Bulma or Vegeta wouldn't have told him.

Bulma might mention it, but I can't imagine Vegeta would. Especially since he never mentions Tarble (if you consider that as canon).

Too bad it was filler, but it woulda been funny if the scene with the Satan re-inactment movie of the Cell Games would have been canon. I mean, what would kid Trunks think of seeing some grown-up version of him at some event that took place when he was a baby?

I would think it would actually be a bit freaky to know that there was a future version of yourself that was around before you were even born.

But, that's not exactly the same, Vegeta never told anyone about Table because of his pride, not being able to stand having a weakling as a brother, on the other hand Trunks was very strong, and actually came to acknowledge him as his son

That and Vegeta had very realistic reason to believe Tarble had died.

Well if he did, he didn't make to much of it. Considering he didn't have too much respect for Goku...the guy he (future Trunks) goes back to save in the first place.

I'm going strictly by the dub here. IIRC Trunks made a comment to Goten about Goku not being that big of a deal when he first met him.

Then again, he may have been told and was thinking "Why would I come back to save this dork?"

As far as Bulma goes..That blabber mouth probrably told Trunks every freaking day: "I can't wait until you grow to be as big and strong as the hunky you who came from the future."

Yeah, that sounds about right, he told Trunks as a baby, "oh you're going to grow up to be so handsome=. Guess little Trunks, know about big Trunks

Granted its GT, but when 17 shows up and challenges Trunks he knew who 17 was. So its possible he knows the stories of the Androids and Cell which makes it possible he knows about his future self.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

The real dilemma is, should his parents tell him.

If they do tell him, he might find himself having to grow up with the burden of measuring up to his other self, the great hero of an entire multiverse.

If they don't tell him, well, he is a pretty smart cookie and they wouldn't be able to keep from dropping references here and there, to say nothing of the rest of the world (that cheesy Cell Games video, for example). He'd eventually manage to put it all together and probably be really mad that it was kept from him.

He's the richest kid on the planet and one of the most powerful beings in the universe. I doubt he'd have confidence issues because some alternate future version of himself came back and helped Son Goku live through his heart disease and warned them about Artificial Humans.

I figure that he probably knows about Future Trunks and all the stuff that happened around that time.

This. If he knows that #18 beat up his dad, he probably knows the whole story. I don't see Vegeta giving a damn about his insecurity, whereas Bulma would probably prey on that insecurity in order to make him more responsible. Or, y'know, to be a bitch. ie: "By your age, Future Trunks was risking his life to get groceries and you won't even go downstairs to get me my cigarettes?!"

Kunzait_83 wrote:And before anyone says "Hey, Trunks shouldn't be able to sense any Ki from 17!", bear in mind that Trunks is commenting on how 17's Ki FEELS, not how "big" it is. 17 and 18 are still human beings, and therefore still have at least a baseline normal level of Ki to distinguish between them (that probably feels so similar due to their being twins).
That's actually a very good point. It may be sort of a retcon explanation, but it works IMO. Plus, it contributes to why 17 and 18 could contribute Ki of some sort to Goku's Ultimate Genki-dama against Buu. My hat's off to ya', Kunzait.
