Dragon Ball Z/GT Art

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Dragon Ball Z/GT Art

Post by Shikashi » Thu Jun 11, 2009 9:36 am

So, I've been trying to get some answers for years now, but it's pretty hard. I think everybody has noticed that Dragon Ball Z had great episodes as far as art and animation goes and terrible episodes too.

I know there's, at least, 4 or 5 different artists that were in the anime team of Dragon Ball Z back in the 90s. Three were awesome, and the other two were crap, however, I don't know their names and can't seem to find someone or a place to explain this stuff.
I know about Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru and the movie art directors, but I can't name the other 3 guys who were in the anime team.

I'm pretty sure this is Nakatsuru, but the ones I can't name are:

Not as good as Nakatsuru and Expression guy, but good anyway

Does anyone have any information regarding this? I'd much appreciate it.

Here's a list I posted of every "Animation Supervisor/Director" involved in either the series, movies, or TV specials. I've planned on making a page about all this on Kanzentai since so many people ask this question, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I really need to update our "Production Guide", because most of this information is there, it's just not up yet.

I did look up one of your images real quick, and the first image of Vegetto is from DragonBall Z episode 271. The "Animation Supervisor" for that episode was Ishikawa Shingo, not Nakatsuru Katsuyoshi. In fact, Nakatsuru Katsuyoshi was only an "Animation Supervisor" for two episodes, but did do quite a bit of key animation. He's more known for doing the "Character Design" in GT.
