QUESTIONS about King Kai (So I won't spam up the board ;D)

Post by SSJSim » Wed Aug 12, 2009 1:47 am

Was King Kai alive during Majin Buu's slaughters in the Southern Galaxy?

Also, has King Kai ever taken his glasses off?

I know I said King Kai.. But I have a question about all of the Kais: Are they born Kai?

Actually, they begin life as an apple. No, I am neither joking, nor on drugs. Sometimes you've gotta wonder about Toriyama, though...

Nope...but now I'm curious.

Being born from a fruit isn't so strange. Just ask Momotaro.

As Eddie said, the Super Exciting Guide (character volume) revealed that Kaio and Kaioshin are born as Shin-jin from fruit from a special tree, Kaioshin being born from special golden versions of these fruits. They live and study together, then when a new Kaio is needed, one of them is chosen by a lottery. You can read all the details in the Super Exciting Guide thread.

It also says that their lifespan is around 75,000 years. Buu was created and rampaged 5,000,000 ago, according to the Daizenshuu timeline, so the Kaio we know probably wasn't born yet.

I don't remember Kaio ever taking his glasses off.

He never takes off his glasses... but we do have an idea of how his eye might look like

What do you mean by his rampage in the southern galaxy? It's never said that he attacked only one.

Anyway, "Shin-jin", the name of Kaio's race that Bussani mentioned, means "Pit People" more or less, since they're born from the fruit of the Kaiju ("World Tree").

Didn't they just say that he destroyed "hundreds of planets"? That sounds like one galaxy.

In the anime though, they said "galaxies".

There didn't seem to be any method to it though. Bididi just packed him in the egg and shipped him to wherever he wanted to attack next. That's how he ended up on Earth after all.

Are you sure that's not just a dub change? I'm reasonably certain that the Japanese version of the anime had the same phrasing as the manga.

I'm pretty sure it is, as YouTubers typically say 'galaxies', which makes no sense as there is supposedly only four...and they're all still 'there'.

So, if new Kaio are chosen by lottery, why didn't a new one get chosen when KK died? Maybe one did and it just wasn't shown in the story...

Here's a good question about the Kais, is there a snakeway to each kai planet?

Daizenshuu 7 mentions that there are roads leading to each Kaio's planet, but doesn't go into any detail on them.

They're not shown (not sure what the source for that map is though).

I see..
That whole Kaio tree thing is pretty interesting though. Maybe that's what Goku ate in the filler episode with Goz and Mez. Lol, doubt it though.

Maybe they did pick one and we just didn't see it. In the manga, we never really see Kaio doing anything Kaioish after dieing (or...before dieing, for that matter), so there's no way of knowing.

Failing that, maybe they only hold the lottery on a certain date, and it hasn't come around yet. Maybe the current Shin-jin have to finish studying first before they can hold the lottery.

It's from the guidebook DragonBall Landmark.

Oh, thanks.

I wonder how often Kaios are born though. If it's too often there'd just be a constantly growing build up of them, just sitting there waiting to be randomly picked.

Well, there apparently haven't been any new Kaioshin born in the last 5 million years, but it does say that the golden fruit which they hatch out of is particulary rare.

It does say that the population of Planet Kaishin (where the tree is, where they live) has a population of roughly 80, so they're probably not born that often, considering their long lifespans.
