Cui and Vegeta confusion

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Cui and Vegeta confusion

Post by smiley » Thu Aug 27, 2009 5:47 pm

In the Viz version of the manga, it was apparently stated that Cui and Vegeta had equal power levels before Vegeta gained a power up from the near death experience on Earth (I don't know about the original version).

However, Daizenshuu #2 mentions that Vegeta's power was "far below Kui's" before that.
Since Vegeta's battle power was far below his own, Kui contemptuously challenges him to a battle.
That also for some reason seems to be in the agreeance with this fan translation I found, where Freeza believing Vegeta's power level was still at 18,000 mentions that Kui had far greater power (the Viz mentions something entirely different though).

Kui also seemed awfully confident that he could beat Vegeta, which wouldn't make much sense if their power levels were supposed to be equal before that.

So I'm confused here. Can someone clarify with quotes from the original version?

I'm pretty sure the line you quoted was in reference to right before they battled. A quote from Cui himself. As he's making his way to Vegeta, he remarks that Vegeta's power is a good deal below his.

Vegeta's max at this point is 24,000 after his boost from Earth. His previous max was 18,000. However, he's learned to suppress his power level. He was probably keeping it down around that 18,000 mark.

THIS is the level that Cui scans and claims is much lower than his own (In Viz: "Hahaha! Are you blind? Take a look at your scouter! My combat power is well above yours!") . If Cui's somehow increased his PL to over 20,000 or so, this would be an advantage over Vegeta worth bragging about. Vegeta obviously ended up showing off his true maximum and frying Cui.

Kaboom's right, Daizenshuu 2 is talking about when Kyui is laughing at Vegeta's suppressed power. He says Vegeta has gotten weaker than before, but then Vegeta unveils his true power.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

That page seem about half accurate. Once Freeza starts talking it goes haywire. Where Kiwi says "Finally, my shot to take Vegeta out" I'm sure it should still be Zarbon talking. And Freeza doesn't say anything about how strong Kiwi is, only that it's important Vegeta gets dealt with because he defied him.

Cui stated that Vegeta's power was far below his own and believed that Vegeta had gotten weaker. Freeza stated that they were equal before Namek. Dodoria said that Vegeta was 18,000 before, so presumably he was 18,000 or around that level on Earth - and the same for Cui on Namek. Vegeta was suppressed before he fought Cui, which is why Cui thought that he could defeat him. Of course, once Vegeta unveiled his true power, Cui was blown to smithereens.
