Kanzenban & Tankoubon

Post by Senzu_Bean » Fri Sep 18, 2009 2:12 pm

When Kanzenban was released some dialogue was changed from the Tankoubon, original version.
What are the more important, notable changes made? Does anybody have a record of the changes?

The only two that pop into my mind immediately are the "Wellcome" sign at Enma's station being corrected to "Welcome," and of course, the brand-new ending with Goku and Uub.

I think they changed Vegeta's battle power in the Namek Saga... but I can't tell ((you heard from me a lot about me owning the Chinese release))

And speaking of the Chinese release, I've mentioned this one before: Trunks says Artificial Humans 17 & 18 instead of 19 & 20.

I'd heard that one was never changed.

Vegeta's power against Reacoom was changed from 20'000 to 30'000 in later kanzenban printings though. Earlier ones still had 20'000.

I remember something about the Cell Games that was also changed... but I cannot remember what exactly.

Would not that create a bigger plothole? I mean Gero states later he is #20 and his fat friend is #19. The Z-Senshi would notice something is wrong.

20,000? That was quite a big mistake indeed.

That's just the way it was originally written though. Trunks does talk about #19 and #20 when he first arrives because #17 and #18 hadn't been thought up yet. Later they were, so Trunks changed his story.

And was that just in the Chinese release then? Or was it changed in the later Kanzenban printings too? My scan still has #19 and #20, just like it still has 20'000 for Vegeta.

Did Trunks after that referred to the Artificial Humans of his time as #17 and #18?

Yes, when he comes back the second time to help fight the androids, he reveals that the ones from his time are called #17 and #18. The first time he comes back, he says they're called #19 and #20. It happened because when #19 and #20 first appeared, they were the only villains planned, but Toriyama's previous editor phoned him up and complained that #19 and #20 were just a fat guy and a geezer. So Toriyama invented #17 and #18 on the spot and had to change the story.

Yes.

Story-wise he had to say #17 and #18 to make sense, or at least just refer to them as artificial humans without giving them a number.

But since Akira Toriyama was thinking about the story and changing it as he went along, this mistake ramained, because, at the time, Akira wanted #19 and #20 to be the major villains.

Due to his editor advice he changed the story to make #17 and #18 the villains and later he changed it again to make Cell the major villain.

I believe the only way to make the whole story not sound completely freak is make Trunks never saying the Artificial Humans numbers to Goku when they first meet. Otherwise it would be weird since one way or another someone would notice the difference.

Or change the first mention of them to #17 and #18, which seems to be what happened.

I just wasn't aware of it.

My Japanese Kanzenban version doesn't changed the numbers... but that doesn't make sense either. Piccolo or Goku didn't suspect a thing when Gero called himself #20 and the other #19. They should at least comment something about the difference...

Actually I agree with Senzu_Bean.

If Trunks named them back then, Piccolo and maybe the others would notice that they were not the ones Trunks talked about because they say they are #20 and #19.

The kanzenban didn`t correct the numbers. I read Herms say that once. But the Chinese version did.

And that's what they did for the anime. No numbers.

One of those rare occasions in which the anime fixes a plothole.

These are all the dialogue changes I know of:

-Vegeta's Recoome fight BP was changed to from 20k to 30k, but only in the later editions.

-The date of the Cell Games was changed from "M 17th" to "May 26th"

-The end of the chapter where Boo is finally killed is changed a bit

-The new ending to the last chapter

However, the numbers for the androids that Trunks mentions are NOT changed in any Japanese edition, as far as I know

Well, the androids arrival is dated as May 12th, so may 26th makes sense for the Cell games, as opposed to the original M__ 17th.

The last kid Boo chapter had the last page expanded into 3 pages with new drawings and stuff.
