Employment... might it have changed the story?

Employment... might it have changed the story?

Post by caejones » Fri Oct 09, 2009 12:39 pm

Ok, I'll admit that this thread is something of a cover for a pointless response to a post from a year and some change ago. ^_^
But that aside... look at all the time the characters spend clearly not contributing to society (at least, so far as saving the world from apocalyptic threats falls into that category. XD); we know pretty much where everyone is at every moment during the Androuningen arc, and once the action starts with Nappa and Vegeta.
And I have to doubt Yamcha's baseball career lasted long after his extended vacation to Kami's palace followed by taking up "staying really really still for a year or so"
What exactly is it that Gohan does, anyway? XD
And naturally, the awkward timing jokes:
Krillin's busy messing with Cell on a plane, when he gets a phonecall:
"Hey, Tsukaresan's sick. Can you cover his shift?"
:d
(Or for something a bit more drawn-by-Toriyama, see Chapter 3 of Neko Majin Z. ^_^ )

Ok, then there's my response to this:

Actually, I could see him rather enjoying being a bouncer at a night club. Or taking up bounty hunting.
Bounty hunting? I'll bet there's a bounty out on Lunch! :D :D :D :D :D

We know that Gohan is a scholar.

Lunch a bounty hunter? I'de love it if they didn't turn her to a truck driver.

17 might be a bounty hunter. ((He got a shotgun))

And we see Kuririn wearing a suit in GT, that might tell us he got an office job or somthing.

And don't forget Goku the farmer from the Jump Special.

Yeah, I'm just not entirely sure what that involves. :?

I was actually suggesting that someone else (Vegeta?) become a bounty hunter, which would lead to them crossing paths with Lunch. XD

Tehehehe. :D. I get the feeling he wanders around light-heartedly robbing people

Heh, I suppose any money they had at Kamehouse (and that'd just be like, from that one jewel that Bulma got from the pirate cave? :P ) wouldn't last forever...
And don't forget Goku the farmer from the Jump Special.
Yep! ^___^. Kinda comes when stuff is resolved, though. Hmm...

Not to go off-topic, but does anyone knows a game where you write down a name and suggests you a job?

All what I could find was this http://www.suitablefor.com/en/ but it's not what I've been looking for. The one I remember looked like an Excel sheet and you only need to type one name instead of two.

I just remember typing the name Sanji, and the job he gets is an underwear seller  .

Goku the farmer that was hillarious! I'm surprised he didn't give all his vegetables to the animals in the forest.

I could imagine Vegeta getting a job as a debt collecter, Knocking on the doors of poor people and roughing them up and stealing what little belongings they have. :P
I could see Tien and Chatzu just cheating on the stock market using Chatzu's psychic powers.
Hmm but what about Krillin? Maybe he would just work in a supermarket stacking cans of beans.

Gohan is a scholar, and we see Trunks in GT working as the president of Capsule Corp which is no shocker despite actually hating his job with a passion. I'm not really sure what Goten ever became, I guess Trunks could always give him some sort of easy high paid job at Capsule Corp; Got to pay having your best friend so high up and running a company.
"Ok, use your instincts Kakarott. Right or Left? (Hmmm... I'd have to say... left.) Good. Then I'm going right!" (Vegeta to Goku as they try to find their way to free the others inside Buu - Episode: The Innards of Buu)

I think I could imagine them becoming tourguides on some contrived mountain trail adventure thingy. Especially if T'en gets a "Hippy + ponytail" whig. XD.
Ur... and there's always Chaozu's amazing soup from the Cell saga~! :D

I found the whole daikon farm thing hilarious. And Goku seemed so overly bored with it; its hard to imagine him enjoying work at any job that doesn't require his martial arts skills. X3

The character guide did say Chi-Chi's favorite vehicle is a tractor; I wonder if they bought themselves one for their farming.

If the character songs can be considered canon, Vegeta's got some culinary skills....though to be honest I can't see him wanting to cook for anyone other than his family.

I kind of like the idea of Vegeta as a bounty hunter though; I have a feeling he'd have fun with that. X3
On hiatus.

The only 'professional' job I see in the show would be Bulma's family with Capsule Corp.

The whole saving the world multiple times thing for me lets everyone else slide from having jobs.

If I remember correctly, Tenshinhan & Chaozu used to be con artists, right?

Didn't Vegeta and Yamcha leech off Bulma at Capsule Corp?

Just in the anime. And apparently they were still with Tsuru-sennin at that point, they were just scamming people on the side.

I can't imagine Goku holding down any real sort of job. His brain isn't wired the same as the average person. Can you picture him going for a round of golf with clients on the weekend and having an affair with his secretary in his corner office? Can you imagine him presenting to stockholders the quarterly sales projections? Can you even imagine him cleaning the milkshake machine at a fast food place?

I'm guessing he gets a lot of his income participating in tournaments. Then again, the Ox King was some sort of overlord, so maybe the Son family gets their income from that.

I'm guessing the Ox King just got all his cash by being huge and scary.

I think he'd be too scared of Chi Chi to fool around with other women.

Buncha jobless bums in this show.

Even Kami just stands around watching things he has no power to stop. I mean, what's even the point of having him as God? What does he actually do to help the people?

They did. Chichi says that money is running out by the time of the Buu Saga, which is part of the reason she lets Gohan go to win the tournament.

He's powerful and above regular humans but none else.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Well, he wasn't always so powerless. He was the strongest being on Earth before the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai. And even after he gets outclassed in terms of power, his divine connections still play a vital part in saving the Earth. After all, without him Goku wouldn't have been able to train under Kaio, in which case they'd never have been able to drive off Vegeta. Daizenshuu 7 says the ultimate purpose of the whole planetary god system is to guide the cultural development of immature races. Kami says he made the dragonballs to inspire courage and hope in the people on Earth, so maybe that was part of his attempt to help Earthlings along in their development. It didn't really turn out liked he planned, of course.

Eh, but what does Kami do, day to day? Like, does he really oversee how humanity behaves or help them out in any real way?

It doesn't even seem like the average person even is aware of a God in the DB world.
