I happened to stumble upon this article tonight when I casually glanced at the stack of Epoch Times newspapers in the lobby of my apartment building. It made my dreary day a little better. The timing seems uncanny to me since I had recently been daydreaming about the idea of one day opening a DragonBall memorobilia museum.
I'll let the article speak for itself. I apologize if the image scans are overly large, but this was the only way I could share the article since I could not find it on the
Epoch Times website. Be sure to check out the website for the
DragonBall Museum.
A DragonBall
museum?! How awesome is that? Discuss.

I remember hearing about the museum a while ago on the FUNimation forums. I never knew much about it 'till now. What a cool idea and story. I wonder if this Mike guy frequents the forums. He should make an appearance on the Daizenshuu EX podcast to talk about his project and what we can do to help!
I noticed a typo in the article. The first URL listing mixes up the "U" and "E" in "Museum." A URL is an important thing
not to mess up.

Is it bad that I'm disappointed this guy's not named "Mike Nelson"? Well anyway, it sounds cool.

Is this our Mike (not Big V, the other one)?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
o_o Oh my god, do want. May this succeed! Particularly because my city has a large and renowned Children's Museum!
This is so awesome, I love it.

I had no idea there were Guinness Book world records for the culmination of DB memorabilia.

Or that it was held by another Mike.
Very cool and interesting stuff though. The museum's got a nice homepage. :3
Even the writer of the newspaper article itself's notes that he has a DB-related book coming out.
What would've made the name coincidences even more amusing is if the newspaper reporter's name was Julian instead of Derek.
On hiatus.

Hi. I'm the author of the article. A visitor to the site just wrote in and asked if I had seen this post on the Daizex forum, and I'm glad he mentioned it. Very cool.
I've received word from my editor that the online version of the article should be posted soon. There are more pictures in that one, including shots of Mike's collection and world record title.
I'll come back and add a link when it's ready.
Edit (Oct. 27): The
online article has now been published, with the correction about the anniversary special.
I also posted an
article on my blog with the full interview questions and answers, in case you'd like to know more about the Dragon Ball Museum.

........what? If somebody told me that there was going to be a Museum for one of the most popular Manga/Anime series to ever be created, I would shoot myself in the foot, because an idea like that would never happen in a million years!
Well, HOT DAMN!

DO WANT. DO WANT!!

Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!
Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

This is frickin' neat. It'd be sweet if they flew down Toriyama to check it out.
Side-note: Bardock, Trunks, GT... what's the fourth TV special? Am I forgetting one?

Well, there was that New Years thing, but that wasn't exactly a TV special?

They said 17 movies... maybe they think the new Jump special was a TV special?

Four Dragon Ball + thirteen Dragon Ball Z = 17 films.

I know. They said 17 movies and 4 TV specials, instead of 17 movies, 3 TV specials and the Jump special, so I'm guessing they mean the Jump Special is the fourth TV special.

Yes, that is what I meant. I figured the average reader of the newspaper would not have knowledge of Shonen Jump and that the fans would understand the statement anyway.

Unless they ment that New Years special, but I doubt they would even know that exsisted.
