"Fist Of The Wolf Fang Gale"?

In Viz, what's with the redundant "gale" added to the end of Yamcha's "Fist Of The Wolf Fang"? It seems completely unnecessary.

It's not redundant. Yamcha’s attack is the 狼牙風風拳/rouga-fuufuu-ken; 狼牙/rouga=”wolf fang”, 風風/fuufuu=”wind-wind”, 拳/ken=literally “fist”, but basically just means “attack” or “technique” in general. So it’s the Wolf-Fang Wind Attack. A “gale” is a fierce wind. Viz’s translation is therefore more complete than simply “Fist of the Wolf Fang”.

And even if the "wind" was not in the name... How is it redundant? It'd have to be there twice or more(Wolf Fang Fist Gale Wind!!), but you're claiming it's not there at all...

Silly me...I thought it was originally "Wolf Fang Fist", rather than "Wolf Fang Wind-Wind Fist". In that case, the "Fist Of The Wolf Fang Gale" is acceptable.

I'd say the 風風 (fūfū, wind-wind) part is more important than the generic 拳 (ken, fist/technique) part. Yamcha's character song from the Dragon Ball - Complete Song Collection is called ウルフハリケーン ( Urufu Harikēn, Wolf Hurricane), so I've always disliked FUNimation's use of Wolf-Fang Fist. Wolf-Fang Hurricane contains all the important parts of Rōga-Fūfū-Ken, contains the same number of syllables, and in my opinion sounds better.
