"My Dragon Box Isn't Perfect?"

Post by Gaffer Tape » Tue Apr 27, 2010 1:39 am

http://www.kanzentai.com/features.php?id=dbox_perfect

For anyone who hasn't noticed that Kanzentai has a new feature, just thought I'd point it out. Has some really good factoids and video clips of mostly never-before-seen things.

So I have to ask Hujio a question on this one. He very kindly provided a bit of help for me on my review of Dragon Box 2 (link in my sig), and I have to say his comparison image illustrating the swapped order of the next episode previews is quite similar to the one I made for my video. But then again, I don't know how long Hujio has been working on this article. So was that just a coincidence, or was I returning the favor? Either way, it's cool. I was just curious.

But, yeah, everyone check it out. I hadn't seen the Dr. Slump DB preview before or some of these other things. I knew that they shortened the previews to advertise movies, as some of my GT fansubs had previews for the 10th anniversary movie (I asked about this on the podcast once, but my e-mail wasn't answered... this article answers my question). It is interesting, though. It seems that Toei made the full preview only to cut it down? Eh, I guess they kept the thirty second versions around for reruns. A shame these weren't on the DBoxes, though.

MY GOD, the episode preview is switched with the closing credits?

I'm totally throwing out my Dragon Boxes!

I love seing stuff like that last "TV Special" there. It feels weirdly nostalgic, even though I was never a child in early '90s Japan.

Good stuff! Thanks for the heads-up!
I already knew that the Dragon Boxes weren't 100% perfect, but they're the best we'll ever get. So let's enjoy 'em, dammit! :D Great read and all-around fascinating.

It has to be. Young Goku never goes into the water with clothes on. Every chance we get to see Goku's baby penis, we see Goku's baby penis.

Wait. Scratch that. It looks like it's from they Devils Castle movie.

No, the scene is from the first movie, along with the rest of that first lookback.

Since, you know, they're kinda going over the movies and not the TV series.

They forgot to mention the full series credit montage at the end of the final GT episode.

Also that Cell Saga overview that was at youtube at some point and was aired in Japan god knows when. It was basically Gohan and Goten having one of them baths whilst Gohan is telling him about the Cell Games. Eventually Goku joins in.

Finally, the CHA-LA HEAD CHA-LA Karaoke from the Laser Disc of Movie 6 (Tree of Might), it's not only about what was broadcast, it's also about the extra stuff from previous media formats.

Well then, we found the lost TV Special: Looking Back at it All: The Dragon Ball Z Year-End Show! We've been looking for this for a while, I doubt it'll be remastered one day.

Well, I only started working on this a couple of days ago. And no, you don't owe me anything. Originally I just had text showing the swapped order, but it didn't really work too well. So, I decided spicing up with an image would work well. I honestly didn't even think of your review video while I was doing it, but I'm sure it was in the back of my head. So subconsciously I suppose you influenced it, but more so, I think it was just a coincidence. It was really the only way I could think of doing it.

Holy shit, I totally did! I even had it written in my notes, but completely forgot to include it. I guess I'll have to update this again at some point.

Awesome little feature! It'd be cool if we could get video of the GT sponsor spots... I remember Tanooki Kuribo said a while back that he could probably rip them from some fansubs of his.

And another thing, Hujio, I'm sure you've already considered this but do you want to put Kanzentai watermarks on the videos? I know your vids have been 'stolen' before, and I just didnt know if you viewed these more as public content. Just throwin' it out there. :)

Well... he doesn't really own the videos, does he? Toei does...

And Hujio, what about that Cell saga overview? Does that not count? Do you even know what I'm referring to? I think it disappeared from Youtube a while ago unfortunately...

Yeah... how dare people attempt to spread relevant information. We should just ignore stuff and stay ignorant. That's the ticket!

Hey now, I'm not saying being informative is a bad thing. I'm just saying, I don't think any of the problems on Hujio's link really effect anything, and it's just a "oh, ok". Sorry if I sound like I'm being a dick, I'm really not (at least I don't think I am).
I'm aware of the the changes made to the North American Dragon Box, but I really don't think they effect anything in any way what-so-ever. I wouldn't be bothered if people weren't saying "I paid a lot of money for this and the credits and the next-episode previews are in the wrong order!" it's kind of pathetic.
EDIT:
Hang on, I just realized Hujio isn't talking about the American release of the sets.

Did I not make that obvious? I figured the history part would give that away, and the fact that I constantly refer to Toei and Japan. I think I mentioned FUNimation once in the whole feature.

Also, for the most part, I was just being informative. The only things I really complained about not being included were the next episode previews. I'd also complain about the GT credit scroll, but I haven't added that to the feature yet (I have the footage, just forgot to add it). And I'm not sure why some people think I was complaining about other things, unless they didn't really read it. I noted multiple times that complaining about certain minor things was "too nit-picky to really complain about", "you can't really expect them to be included", etc. I even made a note saying, "...I'm not really complaining about this, just conveying the facts." I will say that there are a couple things I plan on adding and updating over time, so maybe then I'll add a specific note at the top of the page saying that this feature only covers the original Japanese Dragon Boxes and update my conclusion stressing what I was really complaining about.
