How much time do you devote to Dragon Ball?

Post by Questrider » Thu Jul 08, 2010 2:35 pm

I thought I'd try a lighter topic today...

So, how much time do all you invest in Dragon Ball on a daily basis?
(Include any amount of time spent here on this site or any other Dragon Ball related activity)

Does anyone get paid?

Simply curious.

As for myself, I am constantly switching things up.
On a daily basis, I probably pop on Daizenshuu EX at least 6-12 times or so, (from work) which roughly equates to about 45 minutes since some visits are just in and out. (Simply to check posts)

When at home, I am currently putting in a solid hour of playing Raging Blast on the PS3 and/or watching an episode of the original Dragon Ball.
I’m currently on Season 2 of the original series and so I try to get in at least one episode a night. On the weekends, I put in even more time, often getting sucked into multiple 2 hour gaming sessions and or anime marathons.

I’ve watched all of Z multiple times, as well as GT but I have yet to see Dragon Ball in it’s entirely, so I’m currently on a mission to do just that.

What about you guys?

Does my "job" of moderating this forum count? If so, then the answer is, "way too much."

Way too much? Does such a concept exist? :)

But yeah, the "job" counts.

I'd say Dragonball takes up a dedicated 30 minutes of my day on the days where I'm trying to catch Kai on Nicktoons or FujiTV. Maybe an hour if I pick up the manga or play a Dragonball game on the same day that I watch Kai. Otherwise, I'm usually doing some sort of multitasking while a DVD is in or while I'm on the forums and I don't think that really counts.

If you count things at least partially inspired by Dragonball (like martial arts training) then you can bump it up to about roughly 2 to 4 hours a day depending on the day of the week and who is training with me. Usually less people means I get my workout done faster because I just do mostly conditioning and some bagwork. More people means more sparring and exchange of techniques.

EDIT: I do occasionally teach martial arts lessons here and there and I have been a tutor for college Self-Defense courses that are part of a PE curriculum. Mostly basic self-defense and stand-up sparring to new people or to students at friends' schools I am a guest at. However, while I could probably charge a small fee to do so, I've never charged a cent to anyone for it because I don't feel like I've proven myself capable of being a real teacher yet.

Just ONE cookie? You could have asked for a batch!! (And that still wouldn't be enough...)

Do you get paid for any of the work you do for Daizenshuu EX?
Is that too personal a question?

And if you don't get paid, what do you do for a living if you don't mind my asking?

I don't get paid anything, no. It's just a fansite. We do what we do because we're crazy and obsessive idiots. We have things like our CDJapan referral links and accept donations (none of which really cover all the bills, but certainly help!), but I honestly do as much as I can to review everything we ever order, and also order extra copies to give away on the site and podcast. Next up will be the two new guide books in August :).

I do things for a living. Nice things. They help the world. Makes it a better place. For you and for me. I do marketing. On the Internet. And manage people and things.

I'm very comfy.

I wish I had a job related to Dragon Ball! Ahh, but alas, only in my dreams... :(

On topic though, I spend about an hour each day doing Dragon Ball related stuff. I'm currently splicing together Dragon Box video with the Faulconer Dub. It takes more time than you'd think... Anyways, I just finished Goku's SSJ Transformation episode :D

In addition, I spent WAY TOO much time on here everyday. I get bored and seriously check the site and forums for updates a few times a day. It's pretty sad, actually.

I give quite a bit of my time up to it. Despite no real change in the past decade or so, the franchise still seems to be able to keep up coming back to it.

What this guy said! :P

I honestly try not to keep track of the time, because it would probably be scary if I put a number on it. Sometimes I do actually have to do some real work-work. And if there was any thought about me actually making money off of the site... I wish. More-or-less, just about everything comes out of my pocket... because I love you guys. I would love to start accepting donations, but I can't bring myself to ask for them, yet. I do use CDJapan referral links, which has helped a bit lately.

I'm comfy, but not as comfy as Mike apparently, since I have to wear pants to work.

Just to be clear, so we can brings things back on-topic:

I am wearing pants to work today. Tomorrow... I will not be.

That is all. Carry on.

I fall in and out of my Dragon Ball obsession. Right now I'm spending hours marathoning Dragon Ball but after this I probably won't want to hear the name "Goku" on my TV again for at least a month.

Usually I'll spend however many minutes a podcast I enjoy lasts playing fighting games. When it's not Ninja Revolution (I don't like the anime but love the games, weird huh?) it's probably going to be the Tenkaichi series or Budokai series.

Like watching the anime I'll hit the forum hard and post consistently in many topics and then stop for a long time.

I can't exactly put a number on it but not as much as I used to.

I like lists, so I'll make a list of my Dragonball-related duties. :P

1. I'm currently re-watching Dragonbox 3, and am waiting to pre-order Dragonbox 4 at the end of the month.

2. I play Budokai Tenkaichi 3 from time-to-time. It's a great stress reliever.

3. I fill in various gaps in my Dragonball collection, like figures, DVDs, Manga. All bought from online stores, like Amazon, RightStuf, CDJapan, etc.

4. Lastly, I visit this site, of course. Check the site a few times a day, read/make posts, etc.
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

Hmm...well at least a half hour a day since Kai started, but I visit this forum multiple times a day even though I don't post all that often. I'd say maybe an average of an hour or two a day depending on whether I watch an episode, movie, play a video game, or read through some of the manga.

Which brings me to something I've been wanting to ask for a while: what are those CDJapan referral thingamajigs? I always see the part of the Reviews saying "The review of this Blu-ray disc / CD single / creepy idol chick-related piece of merchandise was made possible by your referral purchases on CDJapan", and I was wondering what that means. It seems like the "promote an item from our store and you get free money" kinda thing, but... in reverse. :?

I think it means...if someone buys an item using the link they provide, they get some sort of commission for the sale? Pretty sure it is something like that.

A lot. I work on my DragonBall fansite, post here, watch some DragonBall Kai, listen to my Hironobu Kageyama songs, discuss it on MSN with my friends and work on my latest DragonBall cosplay.

At school I'm studing to be a graphic designer... something I started doing because I loved making graphics for my DragonBall fansite.

Quite a bit, but not nearly as much as I used to back in the Weekday Toonami era. I think my DB-related activity is directly related to how much new stuff that I'm interested in is out. Things like the Jump Tour special, new DBO storyline news, and yes, even the speculation back when they were first making that movie probably gave me a spike in activity. Video games used to, but I've been disenchanted with most new DB games as of late. (I loved Attack of the Saiyans though; I'd buy a Part 2 to that.) Kai? I watch the new episodes as they come out, but I haven't gone out of my way to watch the dub; I still wish Toei had gone all the way and had new from-scratch animation for everything.

I think if something really big were to happen, I'd probably spend more time on this.
On hiatus.

Yeah, I think whoever provide the link gets 10% off the price of the item(s) the buyers bought.

That's exactly how I feel about Kai, and with all the re-animated scenes they are doing, I don't understand why they didn't. I guess that is slightly off-topic, though. :P
