Newfound love for the King Piccolo saga
Newfound love for the King Piccolo saga
I recently bought Dragon Ball Season 4 and just finished my second marathon of it, and man, I never truly realized how awesome the King Piccolo saga is. There was so much tension throughout it. Master Roshi was dead, Krillin was dead, Chiaotzu was dead, Goku was assumed to be dead, and Tien was trying his damndest to learn the Evil Containment Wave. And then, you had King Piccolo, who was just the coldest, most ruthless person ever. Not only is he pure eveil, but he fucking sleeps with his eyes open. That's just badass. And the conclusion where Goku punches through King Piccolo's chest is one of the sweetest endings ever. All-around awesome saga.

Re: Newfound love for the King Piccolo saga
I have to admit, my mother (yeah, believe it) was reading through Dragon Ball a few months back, and I picked up the first volume of the Daimao arc just before she reached it. I couldn't put it down after reading just a few pages, and I ended up reading through the whole saga. It really is one of the best. Definitely one of the most gripping.

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Yeah, that was awesome when Roshi mentioned that he was trained by Mutaito, and then Piccolo completely dropped the badass act and looked like he was about to shit himself. Double for Tien was fighting him and he was all like, "Bitch, please, there's nothing you can do to beat me. Now you're throwing this stupid capsule looking th-HOLY SHIT IT'S THE JAR"
Even my brother, who used to be a Dragon Ball Z fan back in the fansub days but hasn't watched it in about 10 years was really into it when he was watching it with me.

I couldn't keep the shit-eating grin off my face whenever Goku topped one of Piccolo's moves and everyone was shocked out of their minds. It's very outlandish and doesn't feel like a fight for the sake of the world; I'm cheering in the spirit of the fight. It reminded me a lot of the type of stuff you see Hiroyuki Imaishi do, if anyone is familiar with him.

I think the way everything was executed was just really excellent. The anime had really good pacing and everything in the fight happened at just the right moment. Seeing Goku finally beating the crap out of Piccolo was just so satisfying, and then the ending punch was done perfectly.B wrote:I couldn't keep the shit-eating grin off my face whenever Goku topped one of Piccolo's moves and everyone was shocked out of their minds. Re: Newfound love for the King Piccolo saga
You know, every time I watch it, I really want to like it. But I find it the most consistently boring portion of the series besides the latter half of the Cell arc.
Ditto for the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, actually. And I know how much fans seem to dig that portion. Everything beforehand is hilarious and entertaining, and everything from the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai on seems to have settled into action, but something about those arcs trying to find their footing just makes them yawners for me.

The Piccolo Daimaō arc is my favourite non-Tenka'ichi Budōkai arc in Dragon Ball. It was just so serious compared what we've seen before. I mean, Piccolo Daimaō takes over the whole fricking world and abolishes all laws. The fight scenes were awesome and suspenseful. It was overall an enjoyable arc.
Re: Newfound love for the King Piccolo saga
It was pretty funny when Piccolo abolished all of the laws, and while all of the good people were like, "Piccolo is so horrible!", Blonde Launch and all of the criminals were all like, "Hey, this Piccolo guy isn't half bad!"Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:The Piccolo Daimaō arc is my favourite non-Tenka'ichi Budōkai arc in Dragon Ball. Re: Newfound love for the King Piccolo saga
SHIT GOT SERIOUS in that arc. I mean, it starts off with Kuririn being killed! That bit with Goku cradling the body of his best friend still gets me. Numerous other Budoukai contestants are being picked off, Goku nearly dies, a fatty eats a demon, a villain actually takes over the world until Goku saves the day. Hell, Shelong gets offed! I especially love how the world president is a dog man.
Yeah, the Piccolo Damaio arc is definitely one of my favorites.

I'd be watching this right now, but I'm waiting to see if DB Dboxes are brought over from FUNimation before I tackle the rest of the Blue Bricks (I have the first one).

Yeah, that was pretty funny. Another funny part was when those kids were trying to write the "ma" (demon) Kanji and failing at it (heck, I have some trouble with it myself.jjgp1112 wrote:It was pretty funny when Piccolo abolished all of the laws, and while all of the good people were like, "Piccolo is so horrible!", Blonde Launch and all of the criminals were all like, "Hey, this Piccolo guy isn't half bad!"Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:The Piccolo Daimaō arc is my favourite non-Tenka'ichi Budōkai arc in Dragon Ball. Both of these posts are pretty useless. I'm holding off on warnings for both of them, but let's cut the bullshit. gotensottile, a post with just three words isn't much of a post. Try to add a little more to it. I get what you're saying, but it just isn't worth posting as-is. Piccolo Daimaoh, cut the condescending arrogance. It's getting to be a little much, and I will start issuing warnings on it from now on.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Yes, it was from filler. Thank you, captain obvious. Yup, from Kuririn's death to Piccolo's final defeat at the 23rd Tenka-Ichi Budokai, it truly is the best arc of Dragon Ball. Especially in manga form.

Isn't that his actual proper name in the dub, as in "King Furry"? That was the impression I got when I watched the dub, at least.jjgp1112 wrote:lol, that reminds me...in the dub, Piccolo actually called him a furry. That's...just...awesome
Anyway, the Daimao arc is definitely one of my favorites, along with the 23rd TB.
