Alternate Colours?
In the wake of the new game, there's been a lot of talk of the manga colours. I'm curious about that, I know a few, the obvious ones like Karin being blue originally for example; but what other colours are there? I've read about the Gi that Goku wears being lighter or whatever, and Piccolo Daimao wearing different colours.
Also, anime colours, top of my head I can only think of Vegeta and Nappa with alternate colours, were there more?
If anyone has more information, can someone post like a list or something with the character and colour differences? Possibly images, that would help me visualize better.

Re: Alternate Colours?
Future Trunks, in the manga, instead of a purple jacket, had a light blue one.
I'm pretty sure the blue parts of Goku's outfit are a very dark blue, and the orange parts are a sandy-yellow colour.

Re: Alternate Colours?
Purple? I always saw is jacket as being Denim in colour or plain Blue. I'm confused. :xThanos wrote:Future Trunks, in the manga, instead of a purple jacket, had a light blue one.

Also, what about Piccolo Daimao? You know anything about his colours?

Re: Alternate Colours?
In the manga when they have color spreads Goten's long-sleeved shirt is black instead of blue.
Re: Alternate Colours?
There are quite a few color schemes used on the kanzenban volumes that contradict the original color schemes used in the manga. For instance, the Super Saiyan aura is blue, Dodoria is yellow, Goku's outfit at the beginning of the series is different, and so on and so forth. Even in the kanzenban themselves there seems to be some ammount of contradiction, as the color used for Kaio's outfit is different depending on the volume.
His color scheme is static between the anime and manga except for three things that Namekians seem to have always had in the manga, but never in the anime. In the anime his blood is colored red as opposed to purple, (despite the fact that Drum's blood happened to be purple) his nails as white as opposed to black (though this might just be the fact that his nails actually change colors a little after his youth is restored) and the patches of skin along his arms are pink instead of yellow or orange.DNA wrote:Also, what about Piccolo Daimao? Re: Alternate Colours?
In the original color pages Gohan's clothes is green instead of blue in the Saiyan arc and even in the Kanzenban, it still haven't been fixed or the Anime is the one that's wrong?
Re: Alternate Colours?
Kai doesn't go about correcting every single differentiation in color scheme between the anime in manga. I believe the only things they've actually corrected are Vegeta's hair and Piccolo's blood, though it's been ages since I last kept up with it. As I mentioned before, in the manga, Namekians have differently colored nails and patches on their skin in the manga, but that's never changed for Kai. Gohan's outfit is likely the same way.
Re: Alternate Colours?
Wish they had, it would definitely make it more like the manga, Bulma with purple hair anyone? And I remember one scene where you can still see Vegeta with the wrong colours, only for like a second though, but it was enough time to annoy me.Kiyza wrote:Kai doesn't go about correcting every single differentiation in color scheme between the anime in manga. Re: Alternate Colours?
Commander Red has white hair and a red eye-patch in the manga.

Grandpa Gohan's mask is tan-ish and wears green and orange in the manga.

Kame-sennin wore white as he watched the Goku vs. Gohan fight in the manga.

Pilaf, Mai, and Shuu's robots are all orange in the manga.

Tenshinhan wore green pants during the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, while he wore purple pants in the anime. You're probably more used to seeing him wear green pants anyway...

Drum wore a teal belt and black pants.

Piano wore different colour clothing and his skin colour was closer to that of Daimao's.

Piccolo Daimao as he appears in the manga because you asked about him.

Those...things on Piccolo's skin are yellow in the manga.

Not a colour difference but Kuririn's eyes look differently in the manga.

Freeza(first form) as he appears in the manga.

The Ginyu Tokusentai is slightly different.

Trunks' hair is orange-ish in the manga when transforms into a Super Saiyan Grade 3.

Kaioshin as he appears in the manga.

And Gohan, just so you can see the lighter gi and also compare it to the limited colour one.

Limited Colour
Just a few random ones.

That's most of the colour differences, aside from obvious ones(like Kame House being blue, Piccolo's red belt, etc.) and ones previously mentioned(Trunks and Saiyan arc Gohan) and some of the limited colour palette ones. Cell is also coloured differently in his perfect form but I couldn't a good panel so here. http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz26 ... rs/078.jpg Colours are also occasionally different on the covers and title pages but you can find most of those on Kanzentai.

Re: Alternate Colours?
Toriyama's color pictures of Daimao for Daizenshuu 3 and the kanzenban show his cape as white, while in the anime it's violet. The white cape and purple robe makes him look even more like a mirror-image of God, with his blue cape and white robe.DNA wrote:Also, what about Piccolo Daimao? You know anything about his colours?

Re: Alternate Colours?
And let's not forget the most obvious color difference to me: Bulma's hair are constantly purple in the manga, a color logically inherited by her son, Trunks. In the anime, they are constantly blue (the only exception being for the remake movie), and so I guess Trunks' hair color can be explained by the melting of Bulma's blue hair with Vegeta's black hair, which is stranger, but hey...
If they prefered Blue for Bulma's hair, why didn't they do the same for her son? Because it would look weird, maybe? The choice behind Bulma's change of color possibly came from Toriyama's first chapters, showcasing Bulma with blue hair, but he quickly fixed that with chapter 3, so I don't know why they chose blue over purple.
Other than that, in the manga, all energy balls and auras are constantly pure white (including the Super Saiyan aura). Note that it is possible to restore the original manga aura in the game Raging Blast, since you can pick the color you want for your aura, so you can associate a white aura to Super Saiyans if you wish.
As far as I know, High School Gohan's training outfit was never purple like in the anime. Toriyama had it blue with orange accessories, or more often green with a white belt. We don't know why the anime chose to change it.
Finally, if you consider the Kanzenban covers, the most recent versions of Kaioshin and Kibito have a different skin color: Kibito has blue skin, while Kaio Shin has pink-red skin. This is not a one-time fantasy from the author since he chose to keep these new colors for another cover. If I could, I'd tell the developers to include those as the alternative colors to both these characters.

Re: Alternate Colours?
Goku has been seen in plenty of different colored uniforms. Yellow, red, orange, purple... I like to think they wore multiple outfits as the series went on, but the more realistic answer is Toriyama forgetting/not caring/both.
Gohan's outfit during the Buu arc is green in a color page, with orange wristbands. Are there any with his anime colors (blue/red)?

Alternatively, Toriyama did mean for them to have different outfits but was too lazy to actually design them, thus making only a different colour scheme.B wrote:Goku has been seen in plenty of different colored uniforms. Wooooo look at Ten, looking all cool up there.
Eventually Mr. Toriyama can do whatever he wants. I'm surprised he didn't make anyone wear pink just for kicks.

Re: Alternate Colours?
I have to say, these colors are all really gorgeous.
Something I noticed while watching the Heavenly Training arc last night is that Gokû's doll has the same colors as Son on volume #3!

Re: Alternate Colours?
In the manga, Frieza has blue-colored blood, along with his mouth. In the anime, it's red:

In the manga, Fat Buu's tongue is blue along with his gloves and boots. In the anime, his tongue is pink (only Kid Buu had a blue one) and his gloves and boots are yellow:

In the chapter where Kid Buu spits out Fat Buu(or I guess Mr. Buu) his gloves and boots are yellow. I think that is the only time he appears in full colour in the actual story.Son_Gohan wrote:

Re: Alternate Colours?
Yeah, you can never take a single picture from the manga and say "So-and-so is this color in the manga," as it varies from image to image. See: Karin. He's brown and blue.

Re: Alternate Colours?
Well considering how inconsistent Toriyama is, the chance of a contradiction should always be something to keep in mind. We can safely say they were blue at one point though.
And to keep the trend going; Cell with a blue mouth in the manga, possibly inherited from Freeza:
