How can dead characters die a second time?

I was watching episode 278 of DBZ, where Kid Boo goes to Grand Kai's planet (where Kurirrin, Yamucha, King Kai are at), and Goku says that he needs to save Kurirrin and Yamucha (both dead) before they die a "second time" and "disappear" from existence. My question is, how can they die if they're already dead? Is this exclusive to the anime, or is this is in the manga, too?

I think Goku told the same thing to Vegeta when he was about to fight Kid Boo.
My guess is that the soul gets destroyed, hence you are no more.

Buu don't go to Grand Kai's planet in the manga, so this never happens.
But Goku says Vegeta could have been killed a second time. Maybe souls are destructible in DB-verse, and once they are destroyed the person cease to exist.

Yeah, souls can be destroyed. I suppose that there exist stories about that in mythology.

I think anybody strong enough can do it. It's not like Goku knows that much about Buu.

I never actually wondered about this. I always just assumed that the soul would be destroyed.

I guess it's because, after the afterlife, there's nothing else. There is no next world. There's just the living world and the afterlife. If you die in the afterlife, you're gone forever.

It's just something Toriyama came up with at the last second to make it look like Vegeta would be in danger while fighting Kid Boo to give
Goku a minute to charge SSJ3. Hence why it was never mentioned before. They even made jokes now and again about not being able to die while already dead prior to this.

Only in Movie #12, which is non-canon to both the manga and anime.

I think it was only in the anime filler Otherworld Tournament stuff, it was said, you could die as many times as possible.

Well, Vegeta was dead, but had a body. We know from Goku that these bodies can get damaged, so it stands to reason that they can be destroyed, at which point apparently the soul would be gone forever. Technically we don't know if a disembodied soul can be destroyed by itself, but I guess anything's possible in Dragon Ball.

They made jokes about dying of starvation, but not about being annihilated. But I guess still Toriyama only come up with the idea at last?

Filler wise, the Anoyoichi Budokai announcer also joked that that one one could die in the tournament because they were already dead.

Goku couldn't kill Freeza and Cell because they were already dead. But since it was GT, it's debatable.

I think you're getting that mixed up with Chaozu having died once before, and thus Shenlong not being able to bring him back a second time.

Piccolo killed Chaozu and Ten was like "oh no!" But King Kai was like, "it's okay, he's already dead, he can't die again, he'll just regenerate...." or something along those lines. That would honestly make the most sense. Dying again is a silly concept.
