Why didn't Cell absorb Future Trunks's energy?

When Cell told Piccolo about how he got F. Trunks's time machine, Cell killed F. Trunks before he used the time machine to travel into the past.

But why didn't Cell absorb F. Trunks's energy after killed him?

Depends on if regressing into his larval form lowers Cell's energy to a certain level, or if a required amount is used for the regression and then he can keep what is left over. If it lowers to a certain level, then absorbing Trunks' energy may have just been a waste of time.

No, all he did was to kill F. Trunks and take the time machine in the Future World on both anime and manga. I guess Cell rather left him dead and used the time machine than absorb his energy.

I don't see anything in the manga specifying that he didn't absorb Trunks. Cell only says that he killed him, and all the other people he absorbed were counted as having been killed by him.
