Does Super Saiyan affect intelligence?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Does Super Saiyan affect intelligence?

Post by vegetaslegacy15 » Wed Jul 27, 2011 7:29 pm

Okay, so I was wondering, does Super Saiyan affect intelligence?
The reason I say this is because Vegeta sure makes some dumb choices when he is a Super Saiyan

I don't think turning super Saiyan makes Vegeta dumb. He's just a prideful idiot. I think when a saiyan gets a surge of power he/she becomes over confident which could effect their choices but not their intelligence.

To some extend yes, since it cause a lot of stress, and stress makes you lost focus.

However Vegeta is just a crazy psychopath. He did things you would call dumb before, such as trying to destroy the planet he was on (twice).

You could argue SSJ and SSJ2 affected both Goku (Namek) and Gohan (Cell Games) behavior as well.

This is the way I've always understood it, Super Saiyan makes you more aggressive.

SSJ 1, Goku gets aggressive (more noticable before mastering the form).
SSJ 2, Gohan gets really aggressive and serious.
SSJ 3, Goku gets really aggressive and far more serious.

Super Exciting Guide's training section in the Story volume states SS3 is calmer than the other forms.

Well, calmer than Super Saiyan 2 anyway. It doesn't say anything about 1 or the various sub-forms.

Super Saiyan 3 Goku looks serious and aggressive with that bad guy face of his, but I'm not sure he ever really acts that way. He's reserved enough to retreat from his first fight with Boo, revert to normal after Evil Boo powers down from his Gotenks to Piccolo form, and hand the fight with Pure Boo over to Vegeta and spend a minute charging. He never does anything equivalent to Gohan refusing to finish off Cell so that he could torture him as long as possible.

Same difference to me, until the basic form is mastered anyway. SS Goku on Namek is more aggressive and cocky than his SS3 self, and for good reason I suppose, but it seems to be a similar trait for all the SS during the Jinzoningen stuff (save Trunks, who is initially always like "We haz to kill dem NAOZ!"). Goku also stays that way until the thrill of the challenge dissipates from his fight with Freeza...and while I would say the traits can still be seen even after that fight, he doesn't get a lot of SS screen time before the old ticker starts dealing him a fit. Still kind of seems that way during the SwordXFinger skirmish though...

The Super Saiyan state is definitely described has having a "restless" feeling until mastered. I believe that this is due to the form needing to be accessed by rage and a "pure heart". The latter criteria also made me pause for thought. Does having a pure heart mean your thoughts or even ki must be attuned to one end of the moral spectrum or the other (Vegeta having a heart being "pure evil")? Or does this actually mean being focused completely on a single goal? Either way anger and rage is the catalyst for the form that makes the warrior so mentally and emotionally unstable at first. SSj 2 and SSj 3 is probably similar although I would chalk up Gohan's new found sadism when he first achieved SSj 2 as having to do with his youthful inexperience as much as the transformation and trauma of the battle itself.

The "pure heart" requirement was just an assumption, which proved to be wrong later.

Thanks for the answering the questions guys!

I always thought that it made everyone stupid when they go Super Saiyan. Seeing how Vegeta dealt with Cell, Goku dealt with Freeza, and how Gohan dealt with Cell.

But it makes more sense now.
