Dragon Ball SD Chapter 4 Confirmed + Saikyo Jump Monthly
On Shueshia's Saikyo Jump page, it has been confirmed that Naho Oshi's Dragon Ball SD manga will continue on for a fourth chapter. This chapter aims to adapt the conflict with Majin Boo. A one page preview was put up.
Now, here's where things get interesting. According to AndriaSang, Shueshia is in the process of converting Saikyo Jump into a monthly magazine, rather than its current seasonal/quarterly format. Will Dragon Ball SD make the cut? Seems unlikely given SD is condensing the major archs in the series, and has reached the end of the manga's story. Will something else Dragon Ball replace it?

"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Yes! I know a lot of people find her SD work pointless, and I admit it pretty much is, but I enjoy looking at cute SD Dragon ball material and seeing what minor alterations she makes to the plot. The Buu arc is one of my favorites and I'm looking forward to it.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:On Shueshia's Saikyo Jump page, it has been confirmed that Naho Oshi's Dragon Ball SD manga will continue on for a fourth chapter. This is good if it means more Dragon Ball. It probably needs to take a bit of a break, but I'm also a sucker for new material, so I wouldn't complain. I can only hope it will continue, and if it does, maybe it will bounce into GT? SD SS4 Goku FTW! xD Or perhaps it will return to previous arcs? I was sad that she skipped Piccolo Daimao, the 23rd Budokai, and the Saiyan arcs, so I can always hope for them to be adapted too, but both seem unlikely. I admit, I would like new material better...though I don't know what I'd want, considering the magazine it'd be appearing in.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:Now, here's where things get interesting. Heh, looks like Boo's going to eat Babidi. I guess that's one plot difference.

Re: Dragon Ball SD Chapter 4 Confirmed + Saikyo Jump Monthly
They can do a fifth chapter with GT story...... That will be a complete mess
Well, as I didn't like the ones before, I will gladly see some Buu stuff as this arc is the most ommited after the Dragon Ball anime and we get tons of Freeza/Cell stuff.
But I can predict that from the storytelling perspective, it will suck gintokis.....

Why are people mentioning GT as if Toei/Shueisha acknowledge its existence?

You know, they could go back and redo some arcs. As in, they could cover more ground. They totally left out the Artificial Humans, the majority of Namek before the Freeza fight, all of the Saiyan Saga, and a ton of DB.

I don't want that lady to mess up the existing stuff. Major points of story like miniseries, why not, but I would like to have anything new.
This thing have so much potential to go on stuff like, what the heroes were doing when not in the original or anime in various gaps, or expand existing stories upon.

Re: Dragon Ball SD Chapter 4 Confirmed + Saikyo Jump Monthly
She hasn't. Even if she did adapt previous arcs she still wouldn't. The original manga is still available, these aren't and won't replace the original. It's not even like Ooishi has changed that much from the original source material. Who knows how much freedom they're actually giving her.MCDaveG wrote:I don't want that lady to mess up the existing stuff. That's what I don't like.... Dumbed down stuff from the original with minor plot changes and no invention.
I think, nothing the fanfiction can't do better.

Re: Dragon Ball SD Chapter 4 Confirmed + Saikyo Jump Monthly
Its a method to introduce a younger audience to the series than what the original series targeted. They do the same thing with a LOT of franchises...have you seen the little kids Jurassic Park books? or how about the Lego Star Wars games? the Halo Imaginext toys? I could go on forever. lolMCDaveG wrote:That's what I don't like.... Dumbed down stuff from the original with minor plot changes and no invention.

I see no reason to have anything against the series if you just accept it for what it is.

I agree. From what you've said it's kiddy stuff I don't need to pay attention for then

Re: Dragon Ball SD Chapter 4 Confirmed + Saikyo Jump Monthly
Exactly, it's meant for little kids, not older audiences. I always dislike the seemingly blind hate for stuff like this. The "They're ruining it by dumbing it down" stuff seems pointless, like people are taking it personally that the author is insulting their intelligence by giving them a watered down version of the series...but they seem to forget that it's not intended for them anyway. lolMCDaveG wrote:I agree. It's still something the older fans can read and enjoy if they want,of course, but it is also something that can be easily ignored if they aren't interested. Regardless, there is no reason to think she is replacing or disgracing the original and hate on the adaptation for that, because she isn't. Its just something short and cute to entertain youngsters who have seen the original or draw in those who haven't. Those introduced though SD then have a lot to look forward to once they learn about the original series, allowing them to to start enjoying that too.

If it would be continued after this, I hope it'll mean we might get some original stories for a change like what they do with Rock Lee's.

SD itself doesn't interest me much, but the artwork is cute.

Well, back in the day, they did. Seems like GT doesn't even exist anymore.Herms wrote:...Because they do acknowledge its existence?NeoKING wrote:Why are people mentioning GT as if Toei/Shueisha acknowledge its existence?

It's normal for a franchise to reboot based on the original material (in Dragon Ball case the manga).

I'm not sure what you mean. They released the GT Dragon Box and singles, re-released the anime comic for the GT TV special right along with the other movie/special anime comics, re-released the Perfect Files, included GT artwork in the Golden Warrior artbook, etc.NeoKING wrote:Well, back in the day, they did. Oh right, I forgot how 'recent' those actually are. So, maybe ... But, do you guys really think they'd be willing to create SD GT material? I'd love it, but it doesn't seem very likely, considering how GT is with Japanese fans.Herms wrote:I'm not sure what you mean.
