Why did Gohan delay with Buu?

Post by Hades » Sat Jun 16, 2012 6:15 pm

When Gohan came back to Earth to fight Buu, why didn't he learn from Cell and destroy Buu when he clearly had the upper hand?

As Piccolo said, he'd somewhat changed after his power-up; not just in appearance, but in character. And it'd be boring if he killed him from the off.

Well he just got very cocky due to the power-up. He knew he completely outclassed Buu so Gohan just took his time. Plus he figured why not let the boys play around with Buu.

Gohan's always stupid whenever he gets a big, sudden power-up.

That was only because Gohan was still weaker than Freeza.

Because no one goes right to the point in Dragon Ball Z besides SSJ Gogeta.

It's because he wasn't Goku.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

He tends to get cocky when he gets powerful.

Saiyan blood at work.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Gohan had no idea that Boo could use absorption. There was really no reason not to make Boo feel as much pain as possible before his death. Like others have said, his character changed along with his power. His saiyan blood boiled for a fight.

That's why I said "sudden" in my post, because I knew someone would bring that up.

Not only weaker than Freeza, but still weaker than Vegeta. The only times that Gohan's actually grown arrogant after a power-up is when he's outmatched everyone in doing so.

Or Future Trunks for that matter.

Toriyama could have done a Watchmen-style deconstruction with the Buu Saga when you think about it.

Don't bother with the movie, read the comic instead. Anyway, Watchmen asks "what if superheroes existed in the real world". For instance, Captain America's expy, the Comedian, isn't a pure beyond pure type, but is rather a cynical Black Ops operative that is basically scum. The Superman expy has ascended to a higher level of consciousness and considers the Cold War, one of the definitive eras of the 20th century, to be bickering between red and blue ants. It's a brilliant read, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
