Was Mr. Satan more useful than Yamucha in DBZ?
Mr. Satan:
1 - Mr. Satan threw No. 16's head, Cell crushed it and it woke up Gohan's true power.
2 - Mr. Satan asked the people of Earth to raise their hands for the Super Genki Dama and Kid Buu was blown away.
Yamucha:
1 - Fought some Saibaiman as I remember but then died after one of them blew himself up.
2 - Killed again, now, by Doctor Gero.
3 - Was for some reason trying to battle one of the Cell Juniors but useless again.
IMO seems like Mr. Satan's better than Yamucha despite not having any super powers or super strength.

Re: Was Mr. Satan more useful than Yamucha in DBZ?
Well battle powers = usefulness.
Bulma has been useful as well.
-Meeting Gokuu, which starts his adventure.
-Builds the Dragon radar.
-Wakes up Gokuu at 21st TB.
-"Help" Yamucha win his fight at the Urani Baba tournament.
-Gives birth to Trunks.
- Builds time machine.
-Built remote for Artificial Humans.
-Fixes #16 and removes bomb.
Also, Yamucha wasn't killed by Gero.

Re: Was Mr. Satan more useful than Yamucha in DBZ?
In a way you could say that, in the same way that I often say that, for much of the Cell and Boo arcs, Chaozu is more useful than Vegeta. The former does absolutely nothing, barely even shows his face, while the latter constantly contributes to making things worse. So, yeah, a gain of 0 is greater than a gain of -1,000.
As for Mr. Satan, yeah, he's probably the most useful character in the series solely due to the fact that he was able to do something that no other character in the series could do, which happened to be something that most likely saved the universe, so you could level that argument against nearly any character. I don't think you're giving Yamucha enough credit, though. He did take Goku home when he was disease-stricken, his successfully alerted the others (except Goku because he was sick, and Vegeta because he's an idiot) about the absorption capabilities the artificial humans had, and he devised the best way to wish back huge groups of people. So, come on, give the guy some credit.

Dr. Gero didn't kill Yamcha. And if we are going off of "helper" logic; Grandpa Gohan wins that bout.

Of course, he is because he's the champ. Without Mark, Gohan will have never reached SSJ2 and everyone would die if he didn't throw 16's head towards the boy. Not only that, Mark defeated Buu but through the power of speech rather than from the power of his fists. Something of which the Z-Senshi were never able to do.

Without Yamcha, Blooma would be a carrot forever, or Gokuu might have been beaten to death by the Rabbit Gang dudes.
Even if they did survive all that, Shuu and Mai would have destroyed their car, and Yamcha wouldn't be there to give them a ride to Pilaf's castle. Maybe Gokuu could go to the castle alone on Kintoun, but he would likely still get trapped in the prison cell with no way of escaping, because using a Kamehameha was Yamcha's idea, and only the shapeshifters could fit through the tiny hole it opened. So Pilaf would rule the world.

Mr. Satan did save the universe twice. If he hadn't taken #16's head to Gohan, the rest of the Z-Senshi, including Goku, would be dead by the Cell Jr.s. Gohan would make Cell throw up #18, Cell would turn into a bomb and boom. It's over.
And let's not forget that if wasn't at the Kaioshin Realm, Goku would never manage to make a Super Genki Dama powerful enough to kill Majin Boo.

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I say with the recent gag of picking on him, most fans just gloss over his achievements and merely call him a "fail". Which is sad, as I like Yamucha a lot. Well atleast he's good in Budokai 3 ;PGaffer Tape wrote: So, come on, give the guy some credit.

Isn't Raditz the most useful person in DB ? Without him everyone would of died by the androids, and cell would have eventually absorbed them and destroyed the universe.

Well, you can say that about pretty much every antagonistic force in DB. Take out any link in the chain, and it all falls apart.

Except you'd be completely wrong, as Vegeta saved Goku's life against 19, gave Gohan the opening he needed to defeat Cell, prevented the boys from getting killed against Majin Boo, fused with Goku to become Vegetto, weakened Boo by removing Fat Boo and came up with the plan that ultimately finished Boo off. So he does more to contribute than he does to making things worse.Gaffer Tape wrote:In a way you could say that, in the same way that I often say that, for much of the Cell and Boo arcs, Chaozu is more useful than Vegeta. As for Satan, it's hard to say he was more useful when Yamcha has also saved the day in his own way. He saved the gang from becoming carrots and later saved them from the rampaging Ozaru Goku, and did some other stuff. I'd say it's apples and oranges comparing them.

Except you'd be completely wrong because nearly all of the things you mentioned are just Vegeta attempting to clean up problems that wouldn't exist if he hadn't royally screwed things up in the first place. Gohan wouldn't have needed an opening to defeat Cell if his arm hadn't been injured trying to protect Vegeta (and, of course, there wouldn't have been a Cell Games or a Perfect Cell at all without Vegeta). The boys wouldn't have been in ANY danger if Vegeta hadn't directly caused Majin Boo to be released due to his own whiny, selfish need to fight Goku and murder people. Same for his plan to defeat Boo. Removing the fat Boo only created a Boo that instantly blew up the planet and killed his son, so, yeah, good job there. And that also means he didn't prevent Trunks and Goten from being killed by Boo. The only thing that doesn't fit that is saving Goku, but since Piccolo was about to do that anyway (and Vegeta admits that it was self-serving as he wants to destroy Goku) it only somewhat counts.Saiga wrote:Except you'd be completely wrong, as Vegeta saved Goku's life against 19, gave Gohan the opening he needed to defeat Cell, prevented the boys from getting killed against Majin Boo, fused with Goku to become Vegetto, weakened Boo by removing Fat Boo and came up with the plan that ultimately finished Boo off. Re: Was Mr. Satan more useful than Yamucha in DBZ?
I'm trying to think of someone outside of Goku that did more than Mr. Satan in terms of saving the World.
I think all of the Z-Warriors that remained in the series for a significant amount of time at some stage had their moment where if they hadn't been around, the series would have stopped right then and there. For Yamcha, it was when he cut off Great Ape Goku's tail before he killed anyone (namely Bulma).

Re: Was Mr. Satan more useful than Yamucha in DBZ?
Vegeta made up for his mistakes by saving Gohan, which means it wasn't a gain of "-1000". As for Boo, they had half the energy without Vegeta, and if Piccolo's retarded plan can discount Vegeta saving 19 then the fact that Boo could have been completed without Vegeta turning Majin discounts that as well.Gaffer Tape wrote:

Re: Was Mr. Satan more useful than Yamucha in DBZ?
He was definitely more useful. No Satan equals no strong enough genki dama to kill Buu. Yamcha's most useful thing in Z was caring for Goku during the heart virus and dying.
Re: Was Mr. Satan more useful than Yamucha in DBZ?
Hey, Yamcha wasn't useless. Without his help, Goku wouldn't have beaten Boss Rabbit. Bulma would have stayed a carrot!
Oh nevermind, we're talking about DBZ only. Well... yeah. I guess Yamcha did tell Bulma that Goku "died" on Namek? Someone had to. And hey, he told everyone that androids can sap energy and he helped care for sick Goku.

As for Boo, they had half the energy without Vegeta, and if Piccolo's retarded plan can discount Vegeta saving 19 then the fact that Boo could have been completed without Vegeta turning Majin discounts that as well. Vegeta didn't make the situation worse with Kid Boo, because Super Boo would have killed them easily and could have just blown up the planet as well. This way, they were able to win.
Yeah, but they couldn't have revived Buu with half the energy so yes, Buu being brought to back was as much his fault as it was Babidi's. Same as with Cell.
Not to mention that breaking the Potara when Goku had been willing to use them again and therefore failing to save the earth.
As for Yamcha, well yes, his results in the series don't amount to much and yes, Mr. Satan accomplished something only a few of the fighters could, yet that doesn't mean that if I had to chose between him and Yamcha as who'd I'd like to be saved by, I'd chose Mark. (Unless gag is a superpower, then he would be invincible) I find the comparisson is a bit unfair though.
Re: Was Mr. Satan more useful than Yamucha in DBZ?
I mean that they could have gotten the other half of the energy needed without Vegeta turning evil. And I know that he's partially to blame for Boo being resurrected, but if his saving Goku only partially counts because someone else could have done it, then the same thing happens for his turning Majin.Michsi wrote:

They couldn't use the potara inside Boo's body anyway, and Boo could have destroyed the Earth either way, as pointed out by Gohan.

Re: Was Mr. Satan more useful than Yamucha in DBZ?
No, they couldn't have, because Goku and co. were there to stop them and they would have most likely succeeded had Vegeta stuck with the plan. They might have even had enough time for Goku to give him that fight he'd been wishing for. He handed them the power they needed on a silver platter. That's all there is to it.I mean that they could have gotten the other half of the energy needed without Vegeta turning evil.
They could have used them very very easily after they had gotten out. Had they kept them on it would have probably even happened immediately once they were out and Kid Buu would have been bo problem at all. They couldn't use the potara inside Boo's body anyway, and Boo could have destroyed the Earth either way, as pointed out by Gohan.
