Why were some songs dubbed and some weren't?
I would loved to hear "Only a Chilling Elegy" sung by Chris Ayres.

Re: Why were some songs dubbed and some weren't?
I'm curious to know this myself. The fact that they didn't dub all of them was the biggest let-down in the Kai dub for me. I'm sure they had a reason, but I'm curious to know what it is.

Some kind of explanation as to why they didn't use English DS on episodes 97 + 98 would be welcomed as other dubs used their own DS versions for those episodes.
A Justin Cook or Vic Mignogna cover of OaCE would've been cool, I wouldn't really want Ayres unless he differentiated it from his Friеza voice.I would loved to hear "Only a Chilling Elegy" sung by Chris Ayres.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: Why were some songs dubbed and some weren't?
I'd like it if he played Freeza singing the song with his voice. You know, since the lyrics are from Freeza's POV and I've always figured they didn't need to get all KISS to sing the song properly. Just have Ayres be in-character and sing good enough. But that's just me.dbboxkaifan wrote: A Justin Cook or Vic Mignogna cover of OaCE would've been cool, I wouldn't really want Ayres unless he differentiated it from his Friеza voice.

Re: Why were some songs dubbed and some weren't?
The sad thing is, he could've sang it very effectively, too. I can't find it now, but somebody posted a clip of him singing some Black Sabbath songs as part this fan rock band that he's in, and he actually sounded really good!matt0044 wrote:I'd like it if he played Freeza singing the song with his voice. Maybe they didn't receive the proper materials, or they didn't have enough time to dub them.

Re: Why were some songs dubbed and some weren't?
I also figured it could be legal issues, as well. I don't know how dubbing songs works on a legal level, but the thought occurred to me that perhaps they may have to pay royalties to the original artist.

Re: Why were some songs dubbed and some weren't?
If they had of dubbed OACE then they should of had an actual rock/metal singer do the vocals since the original was done by a metal band.
Re: Why were some songs dubbed and some weren't?
I think if Funi had to do that, then Lamb of God could do a decent cover of OACE.

I think they didn't dub the rest of the insert songs because of the whole music scandal. Funimation was probably so busy mixing the audio with the replacement score that they didn't have time to dub them.

I don't think that's it, since the episodes with Saiyan Blood and Only a Chilling Elegy aired and were released on DVD/BD before the scandal.wjbraden wrote:I think they didn't dub the rest of the insert songs because of the whole music scandal. Some songs I would like to see:
Chris Sabat singing Dragon Soul in episode 97/98
Only a chilling elergy sung by Chris, as the OP has said
And Just for laughs,
Eric Vale singing The Lone Warrior (Since the Japanese VA for Trunks sung it, although Yamamoto getting fired.)

Well, Yamamoto did not do The Lone Warrior, because it was kept in the replacement score of Kai.[SP] wrote:Eric Vale singing The Lone Warrior (Since the Japanese VA for Trunks sung it, although Yamamoto getting fired.)
Chris Sabat could never sing Dragon Soul, as he himself said that he cannot sing it, because it is to deep, i believe.[SP] wrote:Some songs I would like to see: Chris Sabat singing Dragon Soul in episode 97/98.)

His voice may be deep but that hasn't stopped him before from doing a cover of an anime related song.
He's actually pretty decent if the School Rumble ending theme is anything to go by.

Re: Why were some songs dubbed and some weren't?
Well, yes and no. Sabat said that he recorded a "blooper version" of Dragon Soul for fun. He said that three words in, he stopped trying to sing it seriously and just started singing the whole thing with a deep southern accent, ending it with a curse word. He said that it was not intended to be serious at all, it was just a joke he did for other people at FUNimation, although he said that he's not sure anybody outside of FUNimation would hear it.songohan619 wrote:Chris Sabat could never sing Dragon Soul, as he himself said that he cannot sing it, because it is to deep, i believe.[SP] wrote:Some songs I would like to see: Chris Sabat singing Dragon Soul in episode 97/98.)

Damn, you're right, it must of slipped my mind...., but it might be hilarious to hear Eric and Chris respectively doing those songs...songohan619 wrote:Well, Yamamoto did not do The Lone Warrior, because it was kept in the replacement score of Kai.[SP] wrote:Eric Vale singing The Lone Warrior (Since the Japanese VA for Trunks sung it, although Yamamoto getting fired.)Chris Sabat could never sing Dragon Soul, as he himself said that he cannot sing it, because it is to deep, i believe.[SP] wrote:Some songs I would like to see: Chris Sabat singing Dragon Soul in episode 97/98.)

Yeah, I'm not saying he can't sing, I'm just saying the song is out of his range.Gonstead wrote:His voice may be deep but that hasn't stopped him before from doing a cover of an anime related song.

A sound alike could sing Saiyan Blood. I mean, a lot of characters have separate VAs for singing voices.

I REALLY wanted to hear Sabat sing Saiyan Blood... or Seiyan Blood, that would have been the coolest thing ever.

Re: Why were some songs dubbed and some weren't?
I started watching Negima?! (second series) recently and noticed Funimation did something similar with having the openings and endings dubbed, but in episode 14 when Happy Material Go (the first series' theme) plays, it's in Japanese. I wondered if the reason was they didn't want to distract from the action in the scene or they didn't dub it in the first series, so they didn't feel like it now, or something. (BTW, Mr. Sabat is hilarious as the narrator).
