Is the Dragon Ball anime just as slow paced as DBZ?
I've never experienced the original Dragon Ball in its entirety. I'm at the point where DBZ is near unwatchable due to its pace, so I was wondering if the DB anime was better paced or if I should just read the manga.

Personally, I'd just read the manga if you're looking to get through it quickly, but the original Dragon Ball anime is much better paced than Z. A lot of the filler is confined to filler episodes, which you can skip with no repercussions.

Not really but pacing problems are still present.

Haven't we already gotten these in GT? Goku dies, the DBs go away, and the Namekian DBs most likely won't be used again because of the Evil Dragons.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

I'd say it's nowhere near as slow paced compared to Z. It's very easy to finish 10 eps in a sitting.

The Dragon Ball pacing is much better than Z. Also, while the Z filler consists of mini standalone stories (even excluding Garlic Jr and the Other World Tournament), the filler in Dragon Ball is made of extensions of what is there that could very well fit. A good example for me is Tsuru-sennin trying to kill Goku in his sleep after knowing that Goku killed Tao Pai-Pai. Takes up a reasonable amount of time to pad things out, without taking away from the overall event.

If DBZ is near unwatchable for you, I don't think you're going to have much of a better time with DB's anime.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

The DB anime is kinda slow but not the bad slow. The stare-offs before each fight really helps the tension.

I didn't find anything in DBZ to be as interminable as the Red Ribbon Army stuff. But then I like the Freeza fight so I'm weird.

The 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai/Ma Junior material gets stretched pretty thin, but that's literally the end of the series. The rest is paced fast enough to where you're never bored.
