Favorite Japanese Title Card Theme

Post by DragonBalllKaiHD » Thu Jan 10, 2013 2:34 am

What's your favorite Japanese title card music from DB, DBZ and DBGT? Keep in mind that DBZ has 3 versions of title card music. Mine would be GT because it's very catchy. Not to mention one of the greatest composers of all time composed this.

I hated the DBGT title card music because it reminded me of watching those Christian shows in school when I was a kid. I was in Catholic school growing up...

For me it's the Dragon Ball jingle. I've always loved how it starts off with the beat and ends with the gong.

For me it's got to be Dragon Ball too, I love how it sounds so Eastern.

DBZ has 3 versions of title cards...? Care to explain? I only remember two (one based on CHA-LA and another based on WE GOTTA POWER). :?:

Craddle, I think you're confusing title card music with opening animations. I, too, am scratching my head at the claim of "3" as I can only think of 2 myself.

Umm... this one, because it has trees?

But seriously, what exactly are you referring to here? You say title card, yet you're talking about music. Are you asking about the music that plays while the title card is shown, or the opening theme music, or the actual episode title cards like the one I posted? A little clarification would be helpful.

I'm assuming title card music (that maybe eight second song that plays while the narrator says the name of the episode). Unless he means opening title music...

When I first saw the subject title I thought it was asking what title card you liked based on appearance. I commented on the music because, well I hate the DBGT title card music, and it was brought up.

But if we're talking about the background art, I liked DBZ episodes 3, 5, and 13. 3 and 5 just look cool, and the image from episode 5 is taken from a manga chapter, so that's neat. And 13 is just so out there and weird.

I thought I was clear? Yeah, I'm talking about title card music. And yes, there are 3 versions in DBZ, the first 2 being slightly different at the end of music.

Can you post an example? I can't recall ever hearing a difference at the end.

I haven't got an example but the 2nd one is the same as the first but with a faster pace and ends more abrupt. It started around the end of the Freeza arc.

There are two versions of the C-L-H-C-L based title card theme. Most episodes throughout the Saiyan and Freeza arcs use M708A1, while a few episodes within those arcs and every episode from 107-199 use M708A2. They sound similar, but their arrangements are slightly different, as are their tempos.

As for my favorite Japanese title card theme, that would be the unused M708B. It's described in the DBZ BGM Collection booklet as the title card theme for the more serious, or "crisis", episodes. So technically, DBZ has 4 title card themes, not 3. :P

@DragonBallKaiHD - I think you should rename the title of this thread "Favorite Japanese Title Card Theme", because just "Favorite Japanese Title Card" looks more like you're asking everyone which episode they think has the best looking title card.

Wow, I can't believe that A. I never noticed that and B. They actually bothered to make such a miniscule difference. I'm especially surprised they changed it to make it go faster at that point in the series, as it was the point where they were stretching material so thinly they had to loop the recap music about 3 times before every episode to pad it out. You'd think they'd have wanted to waste time by making a much slower version of the title card theme!

That said, I've only ever had that first track you linked to, and I did always notice that it didn't repeat that opening synthesized sound like I seemed to recall hearing in the episodes themselves. I always assumed that was a variation the Toei did after Kikuchi turned in the piece...

As for M708B, was that ever actually used in the series? I can't recall ever hearing it, unless it was in one of the movies...

Nope. Like I said, it's unused, and it was intended for the title cards of crisis episodes, according to its description in the booklet that comes with the DBZ BGM collection.

It's not used as a title card theme, but it is used in the series.

The title card music for episode 200 to 207 (I think it was 207) is not the We Gotta Power jingle. I'm a little fuzzy on the details, I'm at work right now and can't actually check. I'll post an example in 6 hours if no one does it by then.

If you're talking about M708B, no it's not used in the series, or anything at all, ever!

Unless of course you're talking about the piece that comes right after it in the track I linked to, which is M737.
