What type of Soundtrack would you like for DBZ?

No no, it's not the same thing again, not about composers, but what kind of music would you like for the series? For example, I want something like Takaki's music, symphonic power mixed with emotional soul hitting music. But that also knows how to pull tender and soft melodies.

I would love to see Nathan Johnson type work for the entire series. Some modern sounding with a splash of traditional type music... if that makes sense to anyone.

I'd like Yu Yu Hakusho's score on DBZ as it sounds modern and at the same time classical which makes it a great mix of both.

Most of his "music" was a bunch of noises that somehow ended up being tunes for DBZ, he did have some actual music like Tapion's theme.

It was actually Ron Wasserman who composed the soundtrack for Ocean Dub DBZ, but Shuki Levy & Kussa Mahehi took the credit for it.

Anyway, DBZ has a lot of different moods and settings. For me it depends on what's going on. For Goku, I like what the silly kind of J-pop themes in the Japanese version. I like darker edgier stuff for the villains though.

I can agree with the last sentiments I love Only a Chilling Elegy for Freeza for that reason. Sound and lyric wise that's Freeza. I always liked the track for Freeza in Final Bout. Gave off that I'm an evil, aristocratic, pompus asshole vibe.

My favourite pieces from the existing Dragon Ball OSTs tend to be instrumental versions of songs, be they Angel, Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku, Hitori Janai or Dragon Soul, so I guess I'd like a lot of like that sort of thing, with catchy pop-ish melodies, at least where they're appropriate. The most important thing is probably that it covers the required emotional range; that is has pieces that can make you feel happy, ones that can make you feel sad, and afraid, hopeless, relieved, and so on. I'd also want it to be fully instrumental, so that when listening to it you would say "Yup, that's a violin playing, that's a piano, that's a trombone", except for choral parts. No synth stuff or anything like that.

A mixture between orchestrated and synthesized music along with testosterone-filled vocal themes by Hironobu Kageyama and/or Masaaki Endou (maybe even the band JAM Project).

Original Naruto's score is beautiful and that's one of the reasons why I like the games/series that have this soundtrack (I've yet to buy & watch Original Naruto).

These two pieces alone is better than what Kenji Yamamoto composed for Dragon Ball Kai I'll admit that the definitive way of watching Kai is with the authentic score (the replacement is terribly short & repetitive) but that's it.

For me, Kikuchi score is the definition of Dragon Ball and I cannot imagine watching the show with different music. Some music pieces are eternally bounded with characters, places and situations. They are of the same importance as the story itself. As you cannot separate Goku, Bulma and Kuririn from the series, I cannot separate Kikuchi's great score.

I have no interest in watching Dragon Ball anime series without Kikuchi's music.

Not for Dragon Ball Z but Dragon Ball.

That'd be Henry Mancini's music, it gives that classic feeling as well as some Bond which those who've seen DB have heard Kikuchi BGMs very similar to 007's score.

Kikuchi was perfect for DB/Z and Yamamoto was perfect for Kai. After Buu Kai airs though, I might think Sumitomo would have been perfect for Kai, who knows?
