Is magic more powerful than KI ??

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Is magic more powerful than KI ??

Post by flashback0180 » Mon Jan 20, 2014 5:25 am

There is no clear restriction for magic in dbz, But magic does things thats more powerful than ki can ever do like Shenron's wish or even better (GT) black star dragon(Ultimate Shenron) who can grant any wish (no restriction) ...even if you wish for destruction of the universe,Theoretically the wish will be granted .

So we have seen a lot of crazy stuff done with magic in dbz, Like buu's chocolate beam, Cloths beam, Babidi's barrier ect..

So my question is magic more powerful than KI in the dragonball universe.

That's never stated. They're just said to be more powerful than the other dragon balls because the child of Katatz made them before splitting up into God and Piccolo. Dragon balls can never grant wishes that exceed the power of their creator. The ultimate dragon balls had a more powerful creator, so they can apparently grant wishes the other sets of dragon balls can't. But their creator still wasn't all-powerful, so there's probably plenty of stuff they can't do. Somone probably couldn't wish to kill, say, Super Saiyan 4 Goku or anything like that, just like Oolong couldn't wish for Shenlong to take care of Vegeta and Nappa back in the Saiyan arc.

We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

It's not more powerful, but it's more versatile. I'm still disappointed that Babidi never showed any other tricks than telepathy, teleportation, evil mind control/power boost, flight, and a barrier.

I don't think it's that it's more powerful exactly, just that it runs on different rules. With ki, you're more limited by the amount of raw power you actually have in yourself (some special techniques can work around this a bit, like the Kienzan being able to cut much stronger opponents, but the vast majority are closely tied to your actual power level), while with magic a weaker individual could still produce a very powerful effect. Though, as we saw with Babidi vs. Piccolo, not so powerful that a strong enough ki user can't muscle through it.

Someone with a high level of ki is by definition going to have more physical strength, since the two seem to connect with each other. Using a lot of ki also wears you out physically. Magic on the other hand seems to be distinctly not physical, so you can have "frail old wizard" types of characters who are lacking in both ki and physical strength but can still do some impressive stuff through magic, and won't wear themselves out in the process.

Something that always bugged me about that, instead of just using his barrier (or that green goo and then the barrier in the anime), why didn't he use his teleportation spell to send Piccolo to some far off planet? Would be more effective.

Perhaps that one only works within his ship? I mean, the floor hatch of the ship went with them every time he changed their location. So, since Vegeta blew the ship to smithereens, that spell was no longer in his arsenal?
Direct translations of the Korean DB Online timeline and guidebook.
My personal "canon" and BP list. (Coming Soon)

Maybe. Or maybe he was just too panicked to think of it.
