Which movie do you think had the best soundtrack?
For me, its a toss-up between DBZ Movies 1, 3, 6, and 8. I think that's because most, if not all of the tracks featured in these movies would end up being used in the TV show and I enjoy music a lot more when I can associate it with a memory or something I'm familiar with, which is why the BOG soundtrack was a lot better after I'd seen it within the context of the film.

You're talking about the original japanese score, right ? I'd say Movie 6, 9, 11 and 12.
Of course, Bio-Broly isn't really the best DBZ movie...that said, I really enjoyed guitar themes.
And for U.S replacement scores...I enjoyed Mark Menza's work for "The Return of Cooler", it fits perfectly IMO.I also loved Nathan Johnson themes for "Fusion Reborn".
I don't know exactly how to explain that...I thought the music was better than the film.

The opposite for me.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:which is why the BOG soundtrack was a lot better after I'd seen it within the context of the film.

Re: Which movie do you think had the best soundtrack?
Both DB and DBZ movies 2 had the best music, I think. Admittedly, it helps that each was my first exposure in each specific category to the Japanese score, which I immediately fell in love with without even knowing there was a difference. But both of them have very atmospheric scores. The Dr. Uiro theme is creepy-sounding and works as just as well when it becomes Freeza's theme. The Piccolo electric guitar arrangement is my favorite version of Piccolo's theme. And as for the second DB film, I talked about it in my Dragon Ball Dissection of it, but it is very haunting, very choral, very spooky and grand.

The first 3 Z movies was when Kikuchi's music was at its best IMO. I say movie 3 had the best mainly because of that beautiful Genki Dama theme.

Yeah, the Japanese score. The score for FUNimation's 'in-house' dubs of DBZ Movies 1 &. 3 sounds like absolute, forgettable ass.ShinGaijin wrote:You're talking about the original japanese score, right ?

I'll also have to go with the three main DBZ films, but the one that seemed to have done it better for me was Dead Zone.

I'm guessing by "main," you mean "first?"dbboxkaifan wrote:I'll also have to go with the three main DBZ films, but the one that seemed to have done it better for me was Dead Zone.
Actually, I can't remember any of them that really stood out to me. Granted, I've only seen Movie 11 in Japanese, and I didn't like that one to begin with anyway.

That's right, Kamiccolo.
"Dead Zone" has a stronger title and more mysterious than "Bring Back My Gohan!!", these custom titles that FUNimation gave are pretty good and not too spoily.

I vote for Movie 12. The themes used for Super Saiyan 3 Goku, Janemba, and Gogeta (being heavily based on Vegeta's theme from previous films) were just awesome. Kikuchi-sama really knocked this one out of the ballpark.
Honorable mention to the Super Saiyan theme used in Movie 4. Feels so powerful!

Movie 7. The movie as a whole may have been subpar but it had some of my favorite tracks from Shunsuke Kikuchi.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

I have to say, Movie 12 may actually be the winner for me with this piece. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bUZ7vzZ4SM

Re: Which movie do you think had the best soundtrack?
For me it was movie 5. The song that played when Goku reawakened his Super Saiyan powers was beautiful and it also was used in the show when Vegeta turned (into) Super Vegeta. (There was also one from) movie 3 (which) was commonly used for Goku on Namek, (such as) him arriving to fight the Ginyu force and arriving to fight Freeza.

Movie 9 and Movie 1. Movie 9 has such a great range between dramatic and silly themes. Movie 1's music is haunting and atmospheric.

He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.
