Biggest "what a moron" moment
It's no secret that DB characters often act like morons for the sake of the plot. But, in your opinion, what is the single dumbest, most facepalm worthy moment?
In my opinion, it's King Cold's attempt to kill Trunks. Him thinking that Trunks is powerless without his sword is already bad enough, since Trunks had already shown himself to have a high enough battle power to dodge Freeza's energy wave, and make Freeza dodge his. But the worst part is that he seriously thinks that Trunks just straight up handed him the source of all of his power just because Cold asked for it. He didn't even ask nicely, and somehow didn't notice that Trunks was clearly smug and sure of himself even without his sword. Yet Cold is completely confident he just defeated Trunks by getting him to voluntarily hand over the sword after one simple command. Apparently, he just thought that there was one guy in the whole universe dumber than him. His death right after was amusing and well deserved.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Kuririn running to help tenshinhan even though nappa was right above him.
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

Pilaf releasing Piccolo Daimao, thinking he would help him take over the world. You are made of dumb, Pilaf.
Adjutant Black challenging the kid who just massacred an entire army, including a super powerful assassin. You are made of dumb.
Kuririn smashing the 18 shut off controller because she kissed him on the cheek once in a meaningless gesture.
Dude, you probably could have reactivated her later if you like her so much. Priorities. You are made of horny.
It makes sense that Vegeta would let Cell reach his Perfect Form, because he's crazy and loves a challenge, but Kuririn, FFS, just go to a hooker if you're that hard up.
Goku letting the battle with Majin Vegeta go as long as it did was dumb, too. He could have ended it with SSJ3 and prevented Buu's hatching, saving millions of lives. But, again, crazy.
Most things Gotenks does.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Re: Biggest "what a moron" moment
You know, this thread just reminded me of the most amusing memory. I remember I was watching Dragon Ball Z Kai with my Dad, and we had just gotten to the part where Perfect Cell was massacring a whole army while Goku and Gohan could only watch on the Television. I don't know whether it was right before or after Cell grinned and threw a huge blast of energy, but my Dad just let out a statement right in the middle of it...
"Man, Vegeta is an idiot"

Re: Biggest "what a moron" moment
Off the top of my head, I'd have to say Kuririn's with 18 is the biggest. And unlike most dumb moments, I don't even think it's meant to be portrayed as him making a mistake, but instead a legitimate decision from a hard choice.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

As much as I like it, the entire Boo arc is full of these.

I can't even pick out just one. DBZ relies too much on characters acting stupid just to get the plot going.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Goku stopping Krillin killing Vegeta. Not that I don't love Vegeta but why, Goku? The guy murdered your friends. Well Technically Nappa did but he was working with/for Vegeta.
Goku giving Freeza some power.
Goku giving Cell a senzu bean.
Goku letting Videl get beat up, iirc. (Haven't seen the Buu saga in a few years so memory is a bit hazy but I think Goku stopped Gohan from helping Videl but yeah pretty moronic).

Every time someone just sits there and lets an enemy charge up their attack/gather ki/prepare to fuse, etc. Especially bad is whenever there's a genki dama involved.
I actually cheered when Super Buu interrupted Goten and Trunks' fusion dance.

If we're talking stupid for stupid's sake, literally everything Vegeta does and says. But that's just who he is. I can't think of a moment where the characters did something so outlandish it was out of character or beyond reason.

Son giving some power to Freeza as if he'd change to a good guy after all that.
Son is sometimes too forgiveable to enemies that want to always kill him.
Son is sometimes too forgiveable to enemies that want to always kill him.
That'd mean they couldn't die and that's a disadvantage, even if immortality existed in real life who'd want it? Probably not a lot if they thought about it realistically.- no one using the Dragon Balls for immortality at the right time which could have saved a lot of despair
