Shonen Jump readers vote DB as the...

Post by sintzu » Sat Nov 15, 2014 2:58 pm

Shonen Jump readers have voted Dragon Ball as the best series to run in Jump followed by One piece in second place.

The top 5 :

Dragon ball
One Piece
Gintama
Slam Dunk
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

The rest are in the link below :

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/intere ... nga/.80999

What do you all think of the list ? I'm surprised at where Naruto and Hunter X Hunter are cause of how well they do in terms of sales.

In terms of Dragon Ball the list proves that it's still the king of manga and anime and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

The lack of Kenshin disturbs me.

Regardless, the presence of non-"big name" mangas is neat. Nice to see it wasn't just the same one's we hear about all the time.

The legend in his rightful place.
And the other masterpiece called Gintama in third place. Became much more pouplar that I thought.

Even though these ranks don't mean much, Its always good when we see our favourite animes rank so high. I'm a happy fan indeed. :D
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Yes. But I was talking about it in the way: Only because that anime ranked so high, doesn't mean I have to like and I can't find something better than that.

It's be nice to see this translate into the hiring of really skilled animators to work on DB15. :3
Good for DB. I'm surprised to see it beat OP in anything nowadays, especially something like this.
On hiatus.

Um, no? Bleach is on that list and Assassination Classroom isn't. Guess which one is bringing the bigger revenue and seems more liked nowadays?
We don't even know how many people voted in the first place. 1000 or even 10k participants wouldn't mean anything.

AC is coming up in the world but it has a long road before it can come close to rivaling Bleach's success.

"Only because that anime ranked so high, doesn't mean I have to like and I can't find something better than that." One Piece fits what I was saying.

Its not the first time DB beats OP though. Batte of Gods tv ratings were better than One Piece Film Z and OP 3D2Y special.

From what i read and hear One piece hasn't been that good since the war arc while DB is coming off BOG and soon to be going into it's sequel.

I'd agree if this was a few years ago but now Bleach is pretty much nothing.

I personally find Rurouni Kenshin the best series Jump has ever had, but Dragon Ball is probably in the top 3, in my opinion.

I think this list has more to do with the impact they had, hence the "strongest", and not best.

Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure?

Awesome, Japan loves 1987 Weekly Shonen Jump as much as I do, lol. Good to see Rurouni Kenshin as well.

Half of my Top 10 Jump manga ever are on the list (6 if I don't count One-Punch Man and put One Piece back on the list).

If that's true, then where is Kinnikuman or Ring ni Kakero? Dr. Slump? Lots of impactful series are missing.

The manga maybe, and only in Japan. The anime and manga still has a firm following worldwide.

Besides, no matter how it may have dropped off in recent years, it's already in like the Top 20 (maybe Top 10, I forget) best selling Jump manga of all time. It could sell nothing for the rest of its run and still be doing better than AC.

Anyway, if we're talkin' 80s Jump shounen, whee is Kimagure Orange Road?

It's honestly on one of its best arcs, if not the best, currently.

I think that ranking is OK, great for my fav Gintama and I do understand how elementary school kids enjoy One Piece that much.
I tried to watch it myself up to the Fishermen's arc, with lots of pauses in-between watching, but left it for good. It's full of that modern anime cliché I don't like (I couldn't stand that Mermaid princess at all, that was exactly the last straw).
And I laughed few times only. My favorite characters were Zorro, Brook and Chopper. I think I am too old for this, but it's great series for kids.

Dragon Ball as the number one shonen manga of all time? And in other news, the sky is blue.

But in all seriousness, anything other than Dragon Ball as number one would have been outrageous. I mean Dragon Ball is essentially the Hulk Hogan of shonen anime and manga. It may seem stale and uninspired in comparison to the other products of the same genre, but you have to look at when Dragon Ball was originally running. In the early 80s and mid 90s, some of the stuff that Dragon Ball did had never been done before in manga. And the pure impact and significance of Dragon Ball is undeniable. I mean it pretty much built the foundation for every shonen action/comedy manga and anime that has existed since Dragon Ball originally ended. And it also speak volumes that when Dragon Ball ended, the sales of SJW nosedived and still are haven't recovered all that well, even with the monster success that One Piece has become. Although by the time One Piece ends, I think that will be considered the number one shonen manga of all time. And rightfully so, it's bloody magnificent. even if it drags on occasionally.

I've noticed the majority of Dragon Ball fans like One Piece but it doesn't seem to be the case with One Piece fans regarding Dragon Ball.

One Piece will never end. And if it does, most of the fanbase will be already dead.
There are better shounens too. One piece is the new champion in japan, but bring it overseas and loses against Naruto.

Looks like Dragon Ball is (still) the King of Shonen.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

One Piece is very different from Dragon Ball. I love them both but I never got the comparison. For one thing, One Piece relies very heavily on tragic storytelling (right in the feelings, man) and that's very unlike Dragon Ball. And the fights are also very different in style.

Toriko is the most similar to Dragon Ball right now, imo.

Pretty hard to think of a better shonen manga. There are better mangas, but shonen manga? Pretty hard.

And Naruto hardly compares because, even though it was good in its first arcs, it steadily and consistently got worse and worse, even in its art, until it ended. Overall, I don't think it touches One Piece in terms of quality.
