Why you really did not like Dragon Ball GT/parts of it
Okay, I got to know why people really have such massive problems with Dragon Ball GT. I know many people just say "inconsistent" (as if that is GT exclusive), execution, almost no Akira Toriyama, maybe translation or censoring though that is not DBGT's fault and stuff but really - I'm watching it in Japanese right now and I totally love it. I mean I also loved it in German and Englisch but the awesomeness of GT in Japanese seems so clear for me. I even very much liked the parts of Super 17 that normally in other languages are just okay for me.
So has anyone here watched the Japanese original? And if yes did it still disappoint you?

To put it simply, I just didn't find it very interesting (especially early on). GT is the first time I ever really found myself bored with the franchise. It's just hard for me to sit through.

To be fair, I hear it flopped more in Japan than it did in the US for some reason...

Nope. Watched it in German, English and Japanese, in all cases with Tokunaga's score and it's such a fun ride. And the ending just always brings a tear to my eye.

Re: Why you really did not like Dragon Ball GT/parts of it
I never like GT because the show was a huge let down for me. I remember GT came out in the US, I was so hype up to see it since everything about it look awesome. I was so hype up for it at the point where I had to track down bootleg VHS copies of the series and I remember GT was hard to come by with bootleg tapes at the time since many fans wanted to see it. I remember I was like "GT is not bad at all" when I was wrong deep down. Took me a while to figure out that the show was terrible when it came to writing and character development. DBZ handle it's character development and writing much better compare to GT seeing that DBZ give other characters a chance to win besides Goku. Vegeta, Freeza, Cell and Buu had better personalities, depth and where more memorable compare to any of the major villains in GT. Bebi may be the best written villain in GT but he could have been more original since his goals are a rehash on what we seen in Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans.
I also hated that GT hardly had any original ideas since it rehash a lot on what we already seen. Episode 1 of GT opens up with big plot holes and that's never a good sign at all.

In any case, Nuova Shenron was the man and we all should admit it. In fact, he and his brother were written better than Baby.

The 4th Star Dragon was decent but I hate how he was killed off and he was not around for very long. Not to mention him being good was not a big surprise since he's 4th Star Dragon. Most of the Shadow Dragons did suck since they were so weak and didn't feel like a threat.

I hate Nuova Shenron because of his powers. Isn't he said to be able to exert heat and fire greater than the sun? This = OHKO in the DBZ-verse. Being anywhere near him should have instantly killed anyone. Goku touched him and was fine for the most part!
IMO, he should have been powered by the sun like Superman, but not basically been the sun personified. That's stupid.

I'm actually happy that the writers went that way. They could have as well omitted that fact and made 4th Star Dragon same as the rest.Hellspawn28 wrote:Not to mention him being good was not a big surprise since he's 4th Star Dragon.
Re: Why you really did not like Dragon Ball GT/parts of it
Actually the original says the heat of the sun, not greater but I don't think that makes any difference. I just wanted to point that out. Also I guess Si Xing Long never actually used all that power. It would also have destroyed Earth.fadeddreams5 wrote:I hate Nuova Shenron because of his powers. Isn't he said to be able to exert heat and fire greater than the sun? This = OHKO in the DBZ-verse. Re: Why you really did not like Dragon Ball GT/parts of it
I've said this before and I'll say it again: Dragon Ball GT had great concepts but had absolutely fucking God-awful execution. In the end, it just became a lazy and uninspired show that tried so hard to ride on the coattails of the success of Dragon Ball Z, while trying to pander to the old school Dragon Ball fans, that it failed to find its own identity and just became a "nothing" show, a show that you know exists but preferably you won't want to acknowledge that it does.

Re: Why you really did not like Dragon Ball GT/parts of it
For me the first two sagas of were completely unnecessary. A revenge of a Tsufuru-jin on Saiyans was already made by Toei with Plan to eradicate Super Saiyans, and to resurrect android with same techniques just way more powerful, it's just unoriginal. The aminatkion was as poor as the franchise has never deserved it. Even if it turned out more badass that Goku became a child once again it would have been better for him to come back. I didn't like Pan's personality. I didn't like Goten's personality. I didn' like Bulma for some reason. I didn't like Uub's fate, as he was Goku pupil, still had no techniques of Goku(at least the Universal Spririt Bomb and Kaio-ken). Lack of Krillin and Goku interactions( I know that there was one in the end). Goku to be that powerful just in base, but other his forms were totally overwhelmed by strong opponents. Vegeta's hair was awful. Krillin's hair was also awful. Lame character desings: Luud, Rildo, etc. Dende to turn out to be a boy, even if Nameks are axesual.

Not only the Bebi saga rehashes Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, but it also rehash other old ideas as well. Uub fusing with Buu felt like a rehash of Piccolo fusing with Kami and SSj4 Goku vs. Bebi Vegeta felt like a rehash of Goku vs. Saiyan Saga Vegeta. We already had Vegeta becoming evil with his mind being control again which was already done in the Buu saga. The Shadow Dragon saga is the only saga in GT felt original but that saga could have been handle much better as well.

Re: Why you really did not like Dragon Ball GT/parts of it
It says he is able to exert heat equal to the sun but being able to doesn't mean he always is. This is always a misconception with heat and fire based fighters, just cause they can exert intense heat, doesn't mean they do at all times. If that were the case then no one can be around Natsu in Fairy Tail.fadeddreams5 wrote:I hate Nuova Shenron because of his powers. As for the topic, I never had any part I said I didn't like, save for Dolltaki. Guy was a creep. I think in some places they didn't have great executation but whether that was leadership or time constraints I don't know. I see many say 'ideas were rehashed' like the Great Ape Baby vs SSJ4 Goku being a rehash of Goku vs Vegeta in the saiyan saga but I always saw that more of a tribute to that fight rather then a rehash.
To me GT was doomed by Toriyama not being involved. When the original creator isn't involved with the making of something in a franchise the fans are MUCH more critical of that thing then usual. So I think people put GT under a much more intense amount of scrutiny then Z got so it made overall small problems seem like GIANT GLARING FLAWS THAT RUIN THE SHOW! I also believe at this point there are just people who read on forums 'GT sucks' and just continue to regurgitate that all over the net without giving it a chance to stand up for itself. I've called people out who say GT sucks and they admit they've never seen it. It's kinda saddening cause I'm watching it with a friend, it's his first time seeing it and other then Dolltaki, he is digging it a lot. His exact words when Rildo offs Dolltaki was 'Oh shit! This is getting real!'

I'd say the only really "cheap-feeling" recýcling was Zunama. It was like it recycling Oolong (wannabe villain who is nothing but talk, dressing up to trick wannabe villain), the Pirate Cave (cave reached through water, Kame Hame Ha to get out of water cave) and the Frying Pan Mountain (Kame Hame Ha to destroy the volcano).

Re: Why you really did not like Dragon Ball GT/parts of it
I hear many yell that Vegeta wasn't Vegeta in GT. That he would never use the Blutz wave generator to help him transform. That he is far to honorable and proud to sully himself with such a device, then they turn around and give halfass excuses on how it's ok for him to use the gravity machine in the capsule corp ship or use the RoSaT. It's a lot of hypocrisy in my eyes but...whatever. I like it and to me that's what matters I guess.

Re: Why you really did not like Dragon Ball GT/parts of it
Everything is usually a rehash of something. DB started as a rehash of Journey to the West. That doesn't matter because it was good. Also, I haven't seen PES, so I can't judge GT against it. I can just judge GT. Regarding mind control, Babidi didn't really do that good a job of controlling Vegeta. Baby succeeded in taking over Vegeta completely against his will. Not only the Bebi saga rehashes Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, but it also rehash other old ideas as well.
I don't know why you would hold it against the show. It was not really its own thing. It was further adventures of Son Goku. Of course it's riding on the coattails of DBZ, it's a DB series.it failed to find its own identity
Yet not too honorable to let Babidi try and take him over? Vegeta has grown up, so I think he's willing to do what's necessary to reach the level of power he desires, especially if his home and family is at risk. That he is far to honorable and proud to sully himself with such a device
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.
