Budokai 3 or Infinite World
I just picked up a PS2 again recently. I don't know which one to get. I've already played Budokai 3 and I love it, but I never played Infinite World. What should I get? What would be more worth it?

Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
I would say get which one is more convenient to you but since you've already played Budokai 3 and if you were competent at it then I'd reckon Infinite World because it's basically the game combat-wise with Shin Budokai and Burst Limit mechanics plus the omission of the ill received Dragon Rush and replacing Hyper Mode with Aura Burst (no Beam Struggles or Burst Mode, unfortunately).

Infinite World for sure, since it'll be a new experience. On top of that, the various improvements on Budokai 3 really add up.

Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
The main difference between infinite world and budokai 3 that I recall is that infiite world adds more GT characters to play as, but it removes the free flight/roam SP mode. I also remember infinite world having exceedingly brutal AI, even on lower difficulties.
In general, I'd say it depends on what you want out of the game. Are you going to be playing with friends or alone, what type of modes do you like best, etc.

For story and customisation, Infinite World.
For gameplay and adventure, Budokai 3

Pretty much this. Don't forget those mini games lol.Lord Beerus wrote:For story and customisation, Infinite World.

I like the gameplay more in IW, but Budokai 3 had beam struggles.
Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
Budokai 3's gameplay sucks because of Dragonrush.

That's really unfair. Budokai 3's gameplay wasn't centered around Dragon Rush. If Dragon Rush was taken out of the game virtually nothing would change.Rocketman wrote:Budokai 3's gameplay sucks because of Dragonrush.

Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
I got Budokai 3 around when it first came out and i was a little underwhelmed with it to be honest. I mean if you switch the story mode then it's essentially just a souped up version of Budokai 2 featuring a few token GT characters and movie villains. The next fighter Budokai Tenkaichi on the other hand truly felt like a new direction. Never played Infinite World, but it appears to be a better game. The adventure quests and new characters (eg Super 17 & Pikkon) make Budokai 3 seem like a poor man's Infinite World.

Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
Budokai Tenkaichi 1 was garbage. I'll give it credit for trying something different but holy shit was the gameplay as barebones as 3D fighter could get. It has not aged well at all.Kakacarrottop wrote:I got Budokai 3 around when it first came out and i was a little underwhelmed with it to be honest. I also wouldn't recommend Infinite World unless you want the AI to hand your ass to you on a silver platter on a regular basis. The mini-games are also atrocious.

Tell that to the AI that keeps burning itself out with Hyper Mode trying to do it.Lord Beerus wrote:That's really unfair. Budokai 3's gameplay wasn't centered around Dragon Rush.Rocketman wrote:Budokai 3's gameplay sucks because of Dragonrush.

Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
It depends on what character, actually. Supreme Kai and Omega Shenron for example almost never use Hyper Mode (at least not on higher difficulty) let alone use Dragon Rush but Trunks, Tien, and Yamcha are practically in love with it.Rocketman wrote:Tell that to the AI that keeps burning itself out with Hyper Mode trying to do it.Lord Beerus wrote:That's really unfair. Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
Exactly. The gameplay wasn't designed around Dragon Rush but you'd spend have the battle caught in it. The AI is programmed to favour Hyper Mode so much their strategy is thus:Rocketman wrote:Tell that to the AI that keeps burning itself out with Hyper Mode trying to do it.Lord Beerus wrote:That's really unfair. ENOUGH KI FOR HYPER MODE?
Yes: HYPER MODE!
No: HYPER MODE ANYWAY!!
Seriously, NO: Charge up ki and then HYPER MODE BLAAAARGH!!!

Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
Huge difference there - Aura Burn isn't connected to Dragon Rush. Even if the IW AI used Dragon Rush as much as B3 (in my experience it isn't anywhere near as much) you don't run the risk of being caught in Dragon Rush half the fight because of it.DBZAOTA482 wrote:>Implying IW's AI isn't worse with spamming Aura Burst.
Hyper Mode/Aura Burn as modes are that terrible (I think both games would be better off without them) it's the fact that they can very easily knock you into Dragon Rush from basically any attack in Hyper Mode that makes the gameplay turn to shit.

Don't forget the difficulties. On lower difficulties, Infinite World is way more brutal than Budokai 3 is on lower difficulties.

Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
IW doesn't have Dragon Rush but Aura Burn does give the user unlimited use to pretty much any ki-based move, can build ki via attacking, and doesn't leave them fatigue after it runs out. It has virtually no weakness, and there's not one battle where the AI doesn't use it at least one or twice. Especially not Lazuli.... *shudders*.Saiga wrote:Huge difference there - Aura Burn isn't connected to Dragon Rush. Again, the AI's use of Dragon Rush in B3 depends greatly on the character.

Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
Aura Burn, while annoying, is also dangerous and something you have to consider in the fight. Hyper Mode isn't, and actively hurts the AI when they try to use it.
Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
The infinite use of ki moves is the only thing it has over hyper mode. It's easier to avoid, if you get caught you just take a little bit of damage. If you fail to avoid hyper mode you get knocked into the insanely annoying and repetitive dragon rush.DBZAOTA482 wrote:IW doesn't have Dragon Rush but Aura Burn does give the user unlimited use to pretty much any ki-based move, can build ki via attacking, and doesn't leave them fatigue after it runs out. Neither of the modes are that annoying, the game would be better off without them but it's dragon rush that is just awful.

Re: Budokai 3 or Infinite World
It also allows them to block, build ki through attacking (be it defended or hit), causes slight increase in states, and doesn't fatigue them once it wears out on top of the advantages Hyper Mode offers (except not doing Ultimate moves anytime you like). None of which Hyper Mode offers. In fact, Hyper Mode is generally ignored in high-level play due to it's various flaws.Saiga wrote:The infinite use of ki moves is the only thing it has over hyper mode.
