Your AU/Ficverse Ideas?

So there's talk of how a lot of fancomics/fics/mangas are really repetitive and overuse bad plot devices that don't make sense.

ssj5/extra saiyans/more freezas etc.

Say what you will about DBM but it's a cool premise even if they missed a lot of opportunities and had a lot of lame verses.
I often find myself coming up AU's or fic-verses, but I can't write in coherent sentences and my drawing is even worse, they tend to be kind of long so it's not viable to commission an artist either.

It occurred to me others of you might be in the same boat, so I'm curious, what are the DB stories you wanted told but haven't seen before??

I'm currently starting a DB fic that takes elements of Marvel Comic's series 'Exiles'. Exiles is about a group of heroes jumping through the many multiverses righting wrongs and all that. Took that, took the 12 Universes quip that was dropped in Battle of Gods, and I'm running with it.

I was thinking of a DB Exiles just yesterday, I'm a huge marvel geek.

I came to the conclusion that unlike marvel where teamwork helps, and weaker but different powers are usefull isn't the same as in dragonball

Like say you have canon goku on the team and some AU versions of Krillin, Piccolo and Freeza.... he kind of doesn't need those guys help

That's one thing that always bugged me about DB TBH.

How are you getting round that? I suppose of you use the exiles comic idea of people being snatched before they die you can justify villains being on the team with heroes, like "look you fuck around we will send you back to die"

But how are you going to get round power differentials? Give em problems that can't be solved with power?

Well, some solutions don't require throwing a Saiyan at your problems. And not every universe is like U7, the Dragonball Universe. Goku could find that he no longer has access to his large reserves of energy in one universe, or in another, find that his reserves of energy have been increased fifty fold and he can't control it on such short notice.

I wanna start off by saying I like your signature . I've always said Yamcha was a good man! I've had some ideas for alternate universes but I can't write very well or come up with enough details to fill several chapters. I look forward to seeing what others come up with on here!

That would be awesome and has a lot of potential. The most difficult question to answer in a fan comic is where the new threat came from and why they haven't appeared or sensed before. A multiverse gives you an unlimited amount of threats that could be stronger alternate versions of canon villains or completely new characters without having to worry too much about where they came from. It also gives the opportunity of playing around with the rules and physics of each universe to change it up.

Despite my lack of updating my current DB fanfic recently, I do have a few other fic ideas that I'd like to get to eventually.

1) A 'DB Universe' series of short-ish fanfics, detailing the histories of various characters' history, showing things like where they came from, a more in-depth look at their perspective during certain pivotal events, and where they end up post-series. It would most likely be taking only the series, Battle of Gods/Fukkatsu no F/further 'canon' films, material into account. I'd probably start off with characters like Kuririn, Yamcha, and Tenshinhan, but eventually it'd probably work it's way to even some of the bigger hitters like Piccolo or Vegeta.

2) An AU universe that ignores Z and everything else past the 23rd Budokai (or the end of DB), and continues the story in a different, more 'fantasy' oriented way rather than starting to skew even more sci-fi. There would possibly be a few other changes too, making it not fully applicable even with the manga prior to that point, though. It might also re-imagine a few Z characters in new ways (like Vegeta, Freeza, etc.), but not completely sure about that.

Obviously these are all a long, long, long way off though. ^_^;

I was never interested in fan fiction, but I would have liked to see Goku and Bulma end up together. She crushed on him a bit at the end of Dragon Ball and mused about how she missed her chance on Namek.

Interesting take. The most common one is Goku retaining his Saiyan programming, but him still losing it and growing up with some evil dudes like the RR army, is pretty interesting.

I've thought about doing a DBZ rewrite fanfic by myself actually. Unlike most Fan fics I wouldn't just drastically change the premise for it and go into a totally different direction as a in-universe what-if. I was thinking more along the lines of actually retelling DBZ in a different style than what we got, with several changes but following the basic skeleton/structure for it. However, I don't know if it would be interesting enough for a fan fic and if I have the patience for it.

I'll throw my hat in the ring.

I liked the idea of Bulma, with help from Yamcha, Kuririn and Goku, takes over the Red Ribbon army because they don't want all these thugs released out of nowhere/them to reform etc. They take over and try to turn it into a disaster relief organisation or something benevolent.

Gero stays on payroll and the rest of the series plays out differently, at first he is plotting revenge but grows to care about the hero's and is actually respected more than he was before, he can make what he likes and not just design weapons.

This serves as the z-fighters base on and off for most of the rest of the series and gives non fighters more reason to be around.

Head of security Lunch, good lunch and chaozu head of catering. Bulma and Gero science. etc etc.

Training facilities introduced later like grav chambers, z-team use it like a barracks. People like kurirn aren't deadbeats for living there like at Roshi's.

The only problems are I was re-reading the arc they get stuck into the Baba stuff straight after, Yamcha then goes to Roshis to train, Bulma would need a super-human to ensure peoples loyalty in the early days.

How would Gero be allowed to kidnap two teens, no 17 and 18 is sad, especially for Kuririn.

I'm still ironing out the creases but I like the idea.

I've had a fanfic idea floating around in my head for some time actually. It's nothing crazy like the usual ones you see of post Z/GT stories with new Saiyans and ridiculous enemies coming out of nowhere.

All it is is my own personal retelling of the Buu arc in which I basically try to do what Toriyama couldn't and maintain Gohan as the central protagonist of the arc (and do it well, not a lazy shoehorn). I honestly don't think people would react positively to it initially because of how much I would deviate from the established norm but I genuinely think some drastic changes would be for the better.

At this point it's unlikely that it'll ever be made or written as I have my own, more important projects to worry about but who knows, maybe one day I'll try and draw an initial comic for funsies. I worry that I'll end up making it too dark as I have a habit of doing that to stories but at the same time I detest dark, gritty Dragonball fan stories like Absalon so I try and make a conscious effort to retain some humour and lightheartedness.
