Preference on DB Relationships? Your Valentine?

Valentine's Day's just around the corner and I decided to have a thread based around it. Which couple in the series do you think is the best, and is the worst? We all know Dragon Ball isn't very romance-focused but it did have a few clear official pairings:

Goku x Chi-Chi
Bulma x Vegeta
Kuririn x Lazuli
Gohan x Videl

Also, a hypothetical question: If they were all single which one of these lonely wo/men would you go with?

Starting from the bottom: I never liked Gohan and Videl since she seem to give up all her ambitions when she become a wealthy mother of healthy only child. I absolutely loathe this motive, full stop. Chi-Chi was always dreaming about being a home-maker, but Videl? Not my role model.
Kuririn x Lazuli- probably the most "normal" one- although we haven't seen much of their relationship it was clear that they had a thing for each other and developed strong bond. Their scenes in GT are one of the few good moments.
Bulma x Vegeta - Well, she can afford to support unemployed prince... although I can bet that since they are together contractors never delayed payment. I absolutely support them since 1999 and I'm glad that BOG agree with me.
Goku x Chi-Chi - that's complicated. Or simple if you want to put it that way. Surely Goku is a hell of the husband who seem to just take and no give... but they aren't abusive, they don't starve and to be fair she is happy in that relationship. Sure, they argue, but who doesn't? I hated it as a child but since then I met people of both genders who are perfectly happy supporting their eccentric spouses and taking care for daily life.

Most of the relationships in Dragon Ball have flaws to a degree:

Kuririn x Lazuli: We never see how these two got together and on top of that foundation of the relationship was based Krillin having such a raging boner for her that he was willing to endanger the Earth in the hope he could bang her. Of course all he got in the end for saving her life, twice, was "Thanks. See ya later". But over the course of seven years something significant must of happened for her to fall in love in with him or perhaps Krillin was just persistent. We'll never know. But what I do know is that out of all the relationships in Dragon Ball, this is among the most normal.

Vegeta x Bulma: Vegeta was willing to let Bulma and his new born son die just because they got in the way of his fight. Bulma did care for Vegeta's well being once the Android arc began and Vegeta himself softened up to Bulma over the years and came to genuinely love her. So it's a solid relationship, but there's a lot of bickering.

Goku x Chi Chi: This is... weird. Goku minterpritated Chi-Chi's marriage proposal but thought, "What the hell? Why not?" and married Chi Chi anyway. Their relationship quite possibly defines "Opposites Attract". Goku would be willing to disappear for X amount of time if meant he could go on a great adventure or become stronger, while Chi Chi wants Goku Goku to cut down on fighting and training and find a job to provide for the family. But he still loves Chi Chi and its not like he wouldn't care if Chi Chi was in harm. But as Toriyama noted himself, Goku really isn't the kind of man that could provide for his family. But Chi Chi still loves him regardless and Goku loves her back. And in the end, isn't that all that matters?

Now the relationships that stands on it's own as normal and grounded is Gohan x Videl. They both love each other, both care for one another greatly and are hands down the best parents in the show. Best relationship in Dragon Ball bar none.

I'd also go for Bulma if she was single. She's hot, smart, rich, and while she get bossy and bitchy at times, she's most of time cool to hang out with.

I'm a sucker for the little Goku x Chi-Chi moments, like when he was struggling with Beerus' attacks at the end of BoG, he first thought of Chi-Chi by herself, then everyone else all bundled together. Clearly Chi-Chi is special to him.

It's the name Akira Toriyama gave to 18 in the Full Color Questions. My favorite is probably Gohan and Videl. They didn't have too much going in GT and late Boo arc, but it was fun seeing her changing during the arcs with Gohan and it was honestly pretty cute.

It's from one of those interviews with Toriyama where he randomly came up with revealed details about the characters that never came up during the series, such as 18's real name being Lazuli.

On the topic of DB relationships, my number one pairing has to be VegeBul. I've shipped it for...has to be 15 years at this point (holy shit), so nothing else even comes close for me. It was clearly not something that started out rosy, and in the Cell arc Vegeta still doesn't give a shit about her, but once he starts caring, he cares deeply. He becomes very protective of her, leading to moments both hilarious (his super-deformed rant against Gokuu for offering hawt pixxx of his wife!) and squee-worthy (the "My Bulma!" proclamation in Battle of Gods ). I love their interaction in the JSAT special, too, since that totally fits the head-canon I've long had that they tend to bicker a lot (I mean, look at their personalities...that relationship has to be contentious!). So while other pairings might make more sense or be more grounded, I love the coupling of these two hot-heads.

As for who MY valentine would be...well, I'd like to pick Vegeta since he's my favorite character, but I know for a fact he'd probably kill me So I'd pick either Trunks or Yamcha (yeah, I'm superficial about my anime men, choosing the ones I find most attractive )

Bulma/Vegeta is good and gets even better with age. I've been enjoying them a lot more lately (and why I hope they're important in the upcoming F movie).

Gohan/Videl I've always liked because of how organically their relationship is shown to grow over the story. They're really cute together.

I haven't seen much Kuririn/18, but I like to think they bring out the best in each other.

G/CC is a wild card because Gokû..is Gokû. Chi-Chi loves him, but he doesn't seem to have the understanding of the concepts of romantic relationships vs simply having people you care about. They have enough in common where they can function together. I do like them, despite the challenges Gokû poses in a relationship.

I think Gohan x Videl is the only thing we ever have close to romance in DB, which is already saying a lot because there's not much of it either. When I was little I didn't like Videl because I thought she was too pushy, but now that I'm older I'm like "Hell yes, be the HBIC!" I think she's great with Gohan because of how different they are, and I wish we could've seen more of their Saiyapeople adventures because that would've been both dorky and amazing.

I've never been on board with VegeBul, mostly because Vegeta has never been one of my favorites, but he seems to really have grown to love her, and they are dysfunctionally funny together so I guess it's ok

Krillin x 18 is just so weird. I mean, we barely see 18 at all after the Cell Games, so that might be why. Still, they are cute, and I liked the bit in the bio-Broly movie when he rescues her. Krillin is an amazing character, basically.

Goku x Chichi is my OTP in DB, which is hilarious considering how you never even know if Goku actually does love her or not (and per AT, he doesn't really). I do think that Goku cares for her a lot, and I find her over the top character hilarious. She's very caring though, and well, I think in the end, even with everything she says about Goku, she really loves him a lot, because putting up with him isn't easy. I hated GT because it was even worse to GoChi than Z ever was though. They were really cute together as kids as well. And maybe the reason why I like this pairing so much is because Chichi reminds me of my mom and Goku of my dad

If I could date any DB guys it would probably be Future Trunks. He's so hot.

I don't hate any pairs, but my least liked is Krillin and 18 because they rarely have screen time together.

Goku and Chi-Chi does seem to come out of nowhere, and one has to wonder if Goku even feels any different about Chi-Chi then he does anyone else he knows.

Vegeta and Bulma are fun to watch together, but at the same time I wonder how that ever started.

Gohan and Videl look great together, but Videl shows NO signs of liking Gohan until he's presumed dead.

Krillin and 18 look good together, but again 18 doesn't seem to show much emotion in this department.

And no dating for me. Asexual.

Finally, I'll have my say:

4. Kuririn x Lazuli

Not much to say about them since they didn't have many moments even relatively speaking. Toriyama-sensei even admitted he only paired them together just to give Kuririn a prize.

3. Bulma x Vegeta

This one was a bit of shocker and is a fan-favorite but the way they got together was pretty bad in retrospect. It was rushed to justify Trunks' existence, and fucks Yamcha over in the end. However, for what it's worth it did add to Vegeta's character, gave birth to Trunks, and there's at least a sense of connection between them.

2. Goku x Chi-Chi

I actually expected people to have more hate towards this relationship but I didn't want it. I have a soft spot for them, and I don't know why. Is it cuz it's the longest-lasting couple in the whole series (it's the only one introduced in DB that lasted throughout the entire series)? Is it cuz of the TOEI filler (i.e. implied kiss scene)? Is it cuz the idea of Goku being involved with deeper feelings like love charming? Well, fuck. If being down with them is wrong then I don't wanna be right.

1. Gohan x Videl

I give it mad props for being the grounded and normal couple of the entire series. You can clearly how they impacted each together's life though it's more apparent to Videl than Gohan and the anime handles their relationship ever better than the manga does. Gohan and Videl even fucked, and carried a baby before even getting married. Shows they couldn't wait to have each other.

As for Valentine... toss up between Videl or Chi-Chi (preferably Teen Chi-Chi). I would say if I'm man enough I could get a good woman outta Bulma and considering who her ex is it wouldn't be that hard but I'm black soo.....

My favourite pairing is Gohan/Videl. It's the only one to get any build up, and makes me feel Toriyama was wrong to say he can't write romance - indeed, it was way better than the sudden, undeveloped pairings we had before that. My next favourite would be Bulma/Vegeta, at first it came out of nowhere but it eventually become one of the most developed relationships in the series. I really enjoy the interactions the two of them had in things like the Jump special and Battle of Gods.

Goku and Chi-Chi is kind of neutral for me, I found Chi-Chi's return to be funny and the scene of them leaving the tournament together to be sweet, but Goku's nature makes this one a bit unusual. I do like to see fanart of them together, though.

Kuririn and 18 are the worst for me, easily. This one didn't really have any build up either - sure, it had Kuririn's affection for her throughout the arc, but that was a shallow crush. Kuririn starts acting like a complete imbecile and lets the situation get much worse because of his own selfishness, putting him in the exact same category as Vegeta. Nothing he does comes across as a genuine interest, and in the end he gets #18 because as a prize, because the mere act of liking a woman and doing really minor "nice" things for her deserves rewarding. Disgusting.

Gohan and Videl look great together, but Videl shows NO signs of liking Gohan until he's presumed dead.

Aside from, you know, wondering what kind of girl he likes, getting embarrassed over the misunderstanding, and wanting to ask him out on a date. No signs.
