Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
I heard it was stated in the Daizenshuu 4 regarding his kamehameha , but it's also been rumored to be a mistranslation.
Has anyone confirmed it's creditability?

Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
As long as he is as strong as Roshi was when he destroyed it, yes, he can. We don't need a guide to know this.

Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
Given that there's every indication that Goku was at least as strong as Roshi was during the 21st Budoukai, it's safe to assume that Goku, from that point onward, was capable of destroying the moon.

Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
I guess he could. I feel like Moon destroying feats are not easy to pull off until Radditz. Roshi blew up the Moon with the same attack that he did with a Mountain. If Roshi can blow up the Moon then would that mean Tao and General Blue can too? They don't seem that strong enough to pull it off.

There's being strong enough, and then having a technique capable of doing so.Hellspawn28 wrote:I guess he could. I feel like Moon destroying feats are not easy to pull off until Radditz. Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
Besides didn't Roshi bulk up and go max power when he destroyed the moon? Goku probably didn't get that strong for a while.
And didn't they say King Piccolo was as powerful as a small nuke?

Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
It's a line from Daizenshuu 2's techniques guide that's caused the trouble. Basically, in Japanese it states that Goku's Super Kamehameha from the 23rd tournament is a powered-up version of the Kamehameha, and that the Kamehameha is capable of destroying the moon. Obviously the "capable of destroying the moon bit" is a reference to Kame-sennin destroying the moon back at the 21st tournament. So the Kamehameha can destroy the moon, and the Super Kamehameha is a stronger version of the Kamehameha. Simple enough. The problem was that the English translation I did back on Kanzentai was unfortunately worded, along the lines of "the Super Kamehameha is a powered-up version of the Kamehameha, which destroys the moon" or something like that. In other words, it made it sound like the "destroy the moon" bit is talking about the Super Kamehameha, and what's worse, that Goku actually destroys the moon with his Super Kamehameha. Which wasn't implied by the Japanese wording at all. So that's the mistranslation people talk about: that Goku personally destroys the moon. It's up there with "the daizenshuu say Recoom kills Gohan!" as alleged daizenshuu mistakes that are actually all my fault.flashback0180 wrote:I heard it was stated in the Daizenshuu 4 regarding his kamehameha , but it's also been rumored to be a mistranslation.
Bottom line, Daizenshuu 2 does describe the Kamehameha as capable of destroying the moon, and describes Goku's Super Kamehameha as a more powerful version of the Kamehameha...so odds are the Super Kamehameha could destroy the moon, but Goku never actually destroys the moon with it.

A small nuke doesn't blow up moons.Bullza wrote:Besides didn't Roshi bulk up and go max power when he destroyed the moon? Goku probably didn't get that strong for a while.

Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
Isn't Roshi's moon-busting feat generally viewed as an outlier anyway? That level of power was a one-off for the time period and wasn't shown again until much later in the series. Like, King Piccolo was sweating after destroying a portion of a city, so even that feat was done with some level of difficulty. A large city would be a tiny little blip in comparison to the moon.
Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
Among the non-Dragon Ball fanbase, it is. Piccolo Jr. was even sweating a bit and had a little trouble breathing after he blew up the moon.In Brightest Day wrote:Isn't Roshi's moon-busting feat generally viewed as an outlier anyway? I'm pretty sure that was due to trying to not get rekt by Gohan. The blast looked like a casual quick charge to me.Doctor. wrote:Among the non-Dragon Ball fanbase, it is. But that doesn't immediately mean that he didn't tire himself at least a little bit.

Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
My hand-wavey explanation is that Kame-sennin's beefy form falls under the same "technically ultra-powerful, but practically useless" category as the Super Saiyan Grade III form. After all, he never actually fights anyone with it, and only busts it out when he wants to fire blasts at large, stationary objects. On top of that, his Max Power Kamehameha seems like a classic "extra powerful, but takes forever to charge" attack ala the Makankosappo. So Kame-sennin would never win a tournament match against Piccolo in a million years, but he's capable of firing an attack that might be more powerful than anything pre-Z Piccolo's capable of...he'd just never hit Piccolo with it in a 1-on-1 fight. For that matter, it's a lucky break for him that Oozaru Goku mostly just thrashes about at random rather than coming straight for him.

Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
I don't think Teen Goku could destroy the moon completely but I'm sure he could take a good chunk out of it.

I think we're gonna have a more concrete answer once Fukkatsu no F drops.Herms wrote:My hand-wavey explanation is that Kame-sennin's beefy form falls under the same "technically ultra-powerful, but practically useless" category as the Super Saiyan Grade III form. Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
Yeah, it's great to see Kamesennin getting back into the thick of things. Either Freeza's new henchmen are weak as hell or Roshi has somehow continued to get stronger. In that case, what reasons could there be for him to improve? Other than maybe training with Krillin over the years or everyone getting another power up in the movie.Doctor. wrote:I think we're gonna have a more concrete answer once Fukkatsu no F drops.Herms wrote:My hand-wavey explanation is that Kame-sennin's beefy form falls under the same "technically ultra-powerful, but practically useless" category as the Super Saiyan Grade III form. "Guys, there's a new Ultra Divine Water! Except this is one Super DUPER ULTRA DIVINE SPECIAL AWESOME BEER that has no negative effects from drinking it and is even more potent!"
Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
I like the ultra divine water idea, but the original one. Kame should be mentally strong to pass through the 12h-pain, I just don't see that detail being included in the film. But apparently he does use his bulky form in the trailer, which is interesting.
Re: Can teen Goku destroy the moon?
Given that Roshi's first Kamehameha only destroyed a mountain, I think maybe I like Rocketman's theory better - that the moon is fucking tiny and also really close to Earth. That helps explain part of the scene with Goku putting the rabbits on the moon as well.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

But then you have WoG saying the moon is as far away from Earth as ours is and it's as big as ours.Saiga wrote:Given that Roshi's first Kamehameha only destroyed a mountain, I think maybe I like Rocketman's theory better - that the moon is fucking tiny and also really close to Earth.
