DBZ Complete BGM and Best Song Collections Covers
I'm sure that these have been out for a little while, but we now have both of the covers. In addition, we finally have a tracklist for both of them as well. Check 'em out... Kanzentai.com

The BGM Collection's awesome. Really looking forward to it now. (BTW, like the site, it's really clean and neat with light, simple colors and a full block layout.)
It looks like Disc 3 contains more of the spin-offs BGM of We Gotta Power and We Were Angels used in the Boo Saga that I really wanted. Now, I hope this is actually more - as it seems on the face of it - than the tracks given in Disc 4 of the Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z 5 CD set.

I've been keeping up with the site since it got back up and after the podcast, I decided to check out and join the forums.
I know I'll be ranting with everyone over the initial thoughts of the BGM collection when it's released..

I'll be throwing that fit with you! Man oh man, I was looking soooooo forward to this! If they screw this up, there's gonna be hell-to-pay! Of course, I shouldn't be jumping to conclusions before the set is released. But this CD set has filled EVERY CORNER of my mind during every moment I've thought of the old 5-disc set (and believe me, that's very, very often as I'm a DragonBall Z BGM *nut*), and this seems, to me, to be their last, final chance to prove that they can come through for the BGM fans. I'm already disappointed to discover that they're compilation tracks/suites - GADS, do I hate those! You have to listen to NINE or more friggin' minutes of throwaway BGM before you get to the piece you want to hear! And if you look at the track listing, each movie has only one track each on this new set, and some of the movies, especially the latter ones, contain over 30 minutes of music. If Disc 2 has four movie tracks, and, say, each movie has an average of 25 minutes of BGM, only three movie tracks would be enough to fit onto one disc, and just barely, and even then we'd wind up with 25-minute tracks! "Complete" BGM Collection my foot!!!Castor Troy wrote:I decided to order the complete BGM collection today and realized that most of the tracks are identical to the 5-cd set's tracks.![]()
I'll be throwing a fanboy fit if even one piece of music that I recognize is missing which will most likely be the case.

First, thanks. Second, that post actually took a really long time to get done. Long story short, I found the cover art this morning but I have classes all day until 4 PM, so in-between classes I'd look up information and write stuff down. So when you say that we're at the computer at hours you're not, it just sounds funny to hear you say that. But that's what you get for graduating and getting a real job, VegettoEX.Daizenshuu EX wrote:Kanzentai are lovely people. Ok a little off topic, but is it me or does the New DBZ Best Song Collection cover look like 3rd rate dbz animation? I’m still trying to decide if I should order The Best Song Collection, the track list is very impressive humm..., I guess ill just have to wait and hear your view on the CD after its release.

It would be awesome if the tracks are actually expanded with more music and just using the same names as the 5-cd set. Too bad chances of that happening are pretty slim.kenisu3000 wrote:I'll be throwing that fit with you! Man oh man, I was looking soooooo forward to this! I've made a quick translation of the track listing for the BGM CD set. Some titles come from the old VegettoEX translation of the 5-disc set track titles; others, like the movie tracks, are partially Steve Simmons' translations of the movie titles. The rest is my own translation. The tracks that are colored blue are new, not found on the 5-disc set.

EDIT: Track 11 on Disc 1. For the life of me I could not figure out or find in my dictionary what the first two Kanji translated as, at least when put together. The first character is the naki of nakigoe ("cry" as in of the wild), and the second means "call" or "summon". At first I gave up and made it out as "Crying call"... and then some days later I posted the actual Kanji characters into the Jim Breen database and got "Ah", "Oh", and/or "Alas!" That makes a whole lot more sense than "crying call"
Now back to the original post!
When it says, "pieces used" or "partially with pieces used"... well, I'm pretty sure they're referring to BGM pieces that were composed with one of the OP or ED songs as a base for the theme of the music.
I wonder about the track "Bridge Collection". What is it? Actually, I think I have my own question answered: on the Gundam Wing Operation 1 CD, which is also a BGM collection, there are two tracks with that same title, and they're compilations of Gundam Wing's eyecatch jingles. So maybe they've moved DBZ's eyecatch jingles from "Planet Namek And Hope Vanish" and "Angel" to their own track.

Does anybody own any CDs that are unusually long, I mean going past 74 minutes? The longest CD I own is the Japanese soundtrack to Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is 78 minutes. I just want to know, because since they seem to have the nerve to put in the "Movie Size" ending themes (who *cares* about those? This is a *B*G*M* soundtrack!!!), they're going to need all the space they can get on these discs if they're going to live up to the title of "Complete".
I've been listening to the first eight episodes of DBZ, trying to pick out BGM pieces that were composed for the TV series that didn't appear on the 5-disc set. Here's what I've got so far. Oh, and by the way, lots of original DragonBall pieces show up in the first 150-or-so episodes of Z that also didn't show up on the 5-disc set, but those are sure to be absent from this 3-CD set.
Episode 1
-----------
-Prologue
-Gohan's first scene
-Gohan chases the butterfly
-The Sabre-Tiger
-Gohan wants his hat back!
-Gohan's crying theme
-Gohan's lullaby
-Piccolo's bell theme
Episode 2
-----------
-Goku & Gohan fly to the Kame House
-Raditz's theme
-Raditz notices Gohan's tail (Perhaps from DragonBall?)
-Goku tells Raditz to get lost (Perhaps from DragonBall?)
Episode 3
-----------
-Piccolo shows up (Perhaps from DragonBall?)
Episode 5
-----------
-Distant bells
Episode 6
-----------
-Goku flies across Snake Way
Episode 7
-----------
-Goku notices the curving road
-Goku hop-skips the road
-Kuririn stumbles over his words (Perhaps from DragonBall?)
-The dinosaur looks for Gohan
-Kuririn has dinner w/ Gyumao and Chichi
-The boogeyman restaurant
-Piccolo refuses to help Gohan anymore
Episode 8
-----------
-Chichi goes nuts in the skycar
-Chichi and Gyumao approach the Kame House
There's another one that I know of from the first few episodes and love to death: the same one that plays when Goku and Piccolo are driving, and Piccolo takes Goku's passing him as a challenge.
I'll say it again: I HATE THIS COMPILATION TRACK NONSENSE! Just seeing the track list, before the set comes out, leaves us totally in the dark as to how many pieces are on each track.

Being the crazed fanboy lunatic that I am, I've gone through the original 5-disc set's running times for each track, and recorded the running time of each individual Movie Size version of the ending theme songs directly from the DVDs (except for movies 12 and 13, which FUNi hasn't released yet), and did some figuring as to the possible running time of the discs on this new set.
This is assuming that the tracks that share the same name between the two sets contain the same music on them (which is, I'm hoping, not the case, as you'll see below. Yep, I'm hoping it contains all of the unreleased BGM - it could do so, and still have more room left for some of the pieces on the old 5-disc set). This is also assuming these discs don't go over 74 minutes.
(*Incredibly nerdy voice*) According to my calculations:
-Disc 1 may contain about 64 minutes of music from the 5-disc set. That leaves only 10 minutes for unreleased pieces. Pretty disnmal, huh?
-Disc 2 may contain about 55:20 minutes of music from the 5-disc set. That leaves only about 19 minutes for unreleased pieces. Still not a positive prospect.
-Disc 3 may contain about 16 minutes of music from the 5-disc set. That leaves about 58 minutes for unreleased pieces (not counting the Movies 10 and 11 soundtracks). Much, much better, but it's still doubtful it'll contain *all* of the BGM we haven't heard on CD.
If there is *any* mercy at all from these CD producers, they'll have enhanced these discs so that they go WAY past the usual 74-minute limit. Inorimasho!!!!!

Hurrah, now that's more like it. I'm being a little more hopeful about the set now, at least Disc 3 that I'm after anyway.kenisu3000 wrote:-Disc 3 may contain about 16 minutes of music from the 5-disc set.
