Y/N: Hypothetical Budokai 4/Burst Limit 2 should be at EVO
Outside potentially Burst Limit, the Budokai series never had a serious continuation past the third Budokai. Infinite World had potential (and live up to a lot of it actually) but it was made as a budget title to get Atari out of a financial slump and felt more like Budokai 3.5.
With Dimps now back to save DBZ games once again I think there should a Budokai game with a similar focus to Infinite World in mind (a culmination of their previous efforts) while giving it a fresh new experience.
What y'all think? Should it be at EVO?

No, these games have nowhere near the depth required to be even remotely competitive. Super Dragon Ball Z was the closest, but it's still too problematic to make it into something like EVO.

It's as problematic the same way Smash 4 costums is problematic: getting every build ready takes time and no TO wants to put up with that. (And it's a 2006 PS2 game).Ajay wrote:No, these games have nowhere near the depth required to be even remotely competitive. But yeah, Ajay summed it up, the best I could see it doing would be as a side-tournament at something like CEOtaku or something smaller, due to it being DBZ alone it would really need to be embraced by the community for them to consider it (like Gundam EXVS did this year).

I would love some kind of gathering of great Dragon Ball players, because what little footage we have suggests that both the Dimps and Spike camps do crazy things. The suggestion that it should be at EVO, though, it slap-on-the-wrist-shame-on-you worthy; it is putting the ornate royal carriage before the ailing old pony if nothing else.

I can see DIMPS creating a very deep, although easy to pick-up, competitive Dragon Ball game.
It could be released in a year or two and have all the new characters/moves/transformations of Dragon Ball Super and would sell a lot due to hype.

This is one of those things that you can't speculate on but it's something you yourself have to make it happen. If these games were worth side-tournaments or some kind local exibhition it would have already happened, if Burst Limit was truly the best DBZ PS360 game it would have a stronger online community than the other games (Yes, I know Burst Limit's netcode is terrible), if Budokai 3 or Infinite World were the best PS2 games they would have had a , even if small and super short, local following the same way the Naruto: Clash of Ninja and Accel games had for a few years (and even the Storm games nowadays due to conventions and the like).DBZAOTA482 wrote:What about a side-tournament?BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:I would love some kind of gathering of great Dragon Ball players, because what little footage we have suggests that both the Dimps and Spike camps do crazy things. You want people to play and be aware of the Budokai games (or any fighting game for that matter really)? Show your support, make some content online (combo videos, strategies, local matches), bring your setup to locals and see if you can get someone (just 1 person is enough) to sit beside you and play a round, get other players to do the same, build a community around it.
The Devs should know how to market the game yes, but it's the players who have to embrace it, look at Smash Melee, look at fucking Hokuto no Ken by ArcSys which still has a following in Japan despite being a broken game, JoJo's Bizzare Adventure and Vampire Saviour by Capcom get players with stuff like GGPO and Fightcade after all these years, the Gundam EXVS games despite being Japan-only titles get their own tournaments at American locals and were a side-touney at EVO this past year due to the community wanting it, heck, Super DBZ was still being somewhat played in 2012, it's all thanks to the players who want these things to happen and not just because the game "deserves it".

Now that you mention it, B3 did have a couple tournaments at some conventions (almost as much as Naruto) IIRC. Here's some archive footage:Quebaz wrote:This is one of those things that you can't speculate on but it's something you yourself have to make it happen. If I had all the components for my DVR I'd so hype up Budokai 4/Burst Limit 2/Xenoverse 2 (if it's a vast improvement over the first XV combat-wise) for EVO or whatever.

I'd like a DBZ game at EVO, but not a Budokai 4 or BL2. I honestly think the Budokai games are really starting to become too outdated to make further sequels. I'd say a Super Dragon Ball Z II or a spiritual successor to Shin Budokai would help.
