Is the staff for Super filled with....

Post by DBZAOTA482 » Wed Oct 28, 2015 3:32 pm

Vegeta x Bulma fans and Goku x Chi-Chi haters...?

I mean, the show is filled with moments for Vegeta x Bulma ... it's like the show was practically made for them. Goku x Chi-Chi however does not get that kind of love from Toei at all (hell Gohan x Videl and Krillin x 18 get more love) which is ironic since the original anime was filled with moments for them even though they went over-the-top with Chi-Chi's character as well. Outside maybe that one scene in episode 14 where Goku nearly died against Beerus, we never get even a slight sense that Goku values Chi-Chi as anything but an obligation... in fact the latest episode hints that he resents the way that she is and the episode before it also hints she shares that notion for Goku... all with no compromise and the ending for that episode was more heartbreaking than funny  . Even the opening has her yelling at and chasing after Goku and Goten when they pulled out that long turnip like it's their fault.

Though this could be the fault of a particular writer (Yoshifumi Fukushima) seems to get all the Goku x Chi-Chi centric episodes and unfortunately, he's handling the next episode as well.

What could be the cause of all this? Is it cuz that's how people remember Goku x Chi-Chi's relationship (and Chi-Chi's character) best so Toei tries to plays into that? Did Goku x Chi-Chi suddenly fall rapidly behind in popularity to the other couples in Japan with Vegeta x Bulma in the lead? Or is there some joke behind it that Japanese people get but is flying over my head?

As a matter of fact, does Toei hate the immediate members of the Son Family as a whole?

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I think you're overreacting. I think the staff of Super don't even care about the pairing. I think they do care about the others, but I don't think they care about this one in particular, and that's vastly different from hating it or intentionally trying to make it look bad like you're saying. I know you like Chi-Chi and tend to focus on the other aspects of her personality, but the truth is that she's best known for being easily annoyed and getting into arguments all the time, and during these "filler" episodes, Toei's just uses that to buy time, just like they're now using Vegeta's comedic scenes to buy time, Mr. Satan fooling the Earth's people, and so on and so forth. I don't think there's any agenda here, and Chi-Chi isn't completely devoid of moments, she went to Goku when he fell down to the boat back in episode 14.

Why would Toei hate the Son family? They've been treating Goku and Goten very well.

They're good with Goten but the others seem more like shadows of their former selves (Goku is less obvious than Gohan and Chi-Chi).

If it were as simple as not caring then why have filler episodes revolving around them in the first place? They can easily waste time with other material they actually care about and it would reflect better on the show. There'd be no unfortunate implications to emotional abuse or resentment.

Besides, it's one specific writer that may be the problem.

They're just writing Gokuu and the others how they like to. Gokuu who is unendingly selfish and a Vegeta they can put in situations that contrast with his character. It makes them happy.

Regarding Chi-Chi, I'm gonna wait it out until we get her in a story on an episode under a different writer before I can make a call. I really think it's just the one writer who can't handle her well atm.

The show as a whole... but I actually care about the non-fighting stuff.

The show as a whole, but my personal bonuses are:
-cute Gokû moments
-Vegeta reaction faces (not all of them though. Weird as it seems I'm actually approaching my limit on these because there's been so many lately).
-overly intense Vegeta (think him standing on that cliff so long mounds of dirt covered his boots, and a rainstorm came and passed. Or his unofficial vow of silence that Whis failed to break.)

I'm also here for Gokû and Vegeta training under Whis (who has the fastest record with me from jumping from eh to I wonder what shenanigans he's up to this week?).

But it's odd to make the assumption that since the show is not giving you material that you want to see then the Staff only likes the other direction. I'm pretty sure the Staff it's neutral.

I thought it was Toriyama who made Gokuu selfish and that Toei went for a more Superman ish approach. Enlighten me Jacob!

In how many different sites are you creating these threads?!
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

Whenever Toei ever highlights Goku's "selfish manchild' side, they blow it out of proportion which is evident in some filler.

Re: Scenario writers who've treated Chi-Chi positively so far

In addition to King Ryû who had her running to Gokû's side with concern after Vegeta's incredible princess-carry, Yoshitaka Toshio who wrote episode 9 had her celebrating with everyone over Videl's pregnancy, happily suggesting possible baby-names, and complimenting Vegeta on how mature he's become going off on vacation with his family.

I don't recall her being in Makoto Koyama's episode at all, but I remember his dad (Takao Koyama - scenario writer for the Z movies) being good at balancing her sides.

Do we really need a million threads complaining about Super!Chichi, from the same person?

I would make a Super!Goku or Super!Mr. Boo one, but my brain hurts too much for that.

Besides, it's not just about her.

I feel like at this point it would make more sense to have a general "Characterization in Super" thread.

This is a completely different set of writers, so I'm just going off of what we have seen so far in Dragon Ball Super.
