Was the term Frost Demon used in the series before Xenoverse
I don't seem to remember the series using the name and I find it weird that Xenoverse used name out of the blue. If you don't know what I'm talking about then it's Cell that mentions the name.
Why I use "Geran" instead of "Jiren"

It's a reference to Dragon Ball Multiverse.

No, it's not a term that had ever been used before in official merchandise.Helios518 wrote:I don't seem to remember the series using the name and I find it weird that Xenoverse used name out of the blue. If you don't know what I'm talking about then it's Cell that mentions the name.
Perhaps, but also perhaps not. While I noted that it wasn't in official merchandise before, it's a fan-term that definitely pre-dates Multiverse.Doctor. wrote:It's a reference to Dragon Ball Multiverse.

Oh really? Interesting, I thought Multiverse coined the term. You learn something new every day, I guess. Out of curiosity, what was stated in the Japanese version?

Don't know off the top of my head. If there's a specific scene you can point me to in the game, I'd be happy to look (if someone else doesn't get to it first).Doctor. wrote:Oh really? Re: Was the term Frost Demon used in the series before Xenov
I want to say the main place I recall it popping up was if you used a Freeza's race character during some of the Cell Games stuff, but I can't recall if it was specifically in the story mode, or during some of the Parallel Quests that were very much in that area of story.
Personally, I've never been super fond of the 'Frost Demon' moniker, mostly because of the fact that we have actual demons in the series. I guess there's nothing to say that Freeza's race isn't some sort of space based demon, but...ehh...I was also never really that big on the 'Changeling' thing. My fallback was always 'Icer', or 'Ice-jin' if we're talking from a more Japanese version POV.

I'm partial to Arcosian, myself.
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147
Re: Was the term Frost Demon used in the series before Xenov
It's Parallel Quest #22, "Earth in Danger". You have to defeat quite a few enemies before you get to Cell, though. You have to use a character of Freeza's race to get the dialogue, obviously. I'd do it on my own, but I don't have a high leveled one to do it, good luckVegettoEX wrote:Don't know off the top of my head. Re: Was the term Frost Demon used in the series before Xenov
I personally call them Kuraio-jin, a pun for Cryogen. I do not like all these Frost Demon, Arcosian, doujinshi terms that are no good and fitting pun and apparently are even thought of as real by some fans who read it on a random website.

If I had to guess, I'd assume this is something only found in the English version of the game. But I don't suppose anyone has a screenshot from the Japanese version to check?

Re: Was the term Frost Demon used in the series before Xenov
I really really hope that's not true. Aside from me not liking Multiverse I REALLY hate when a series reference memes or fans created works (IE if Dragon Ball started doing the "KOC"). It just kills the feel of it especially with a series like Dragon Ball. With stuff like South Park and others shows like that it's fine though.Doctor. wrote:It's a reference to Dragon Ball Multiverse.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Re: Was the term Frost Demon used in the series before Xenov
Looking around a bit, I can't find any mention of "Frost Demon" being used in the Japanese version of Xenoverse. So I'm guessing it was something the English localizers threw in.
Also, for the record the Japanese translation of DB Multiverse translates "Frost Demon" as フロスト族, "Frost Clan" (which also isn't used in Xenoverse, near as I can tell).

Dragon Ball Multiverse is French though, so that probably means nothing.Herms wrote: Also, for the record the Japanese translation of DB Multiverse translates "Frost Demon" as フロスト族, "Frost Clan" (which also isn't used in Xenoverse, near as I can tell).

Re: Was the term Frost Demon used in the series before Xenov
My point being that if Multiverse had been referenced in the Japanese version of Xenoverse, then "Frost Clan" would probably have been the name they would have used, since that's what's used in the Japanese translation of Multiverse itself. But as it is, neither that nor "Frost Demon" seem to be referenced.Cetra wrote:Dragon Ball Multiverse is French though, so that probably means nothing.
Although on that note, "Frost Demon" didn't actually originate with Multiverse, did it? I thought it was a pre-existing fan term that Multiverse simply adopted.

Re: Was the term Frost Demon used in the series before Xenov
Just got around to this. It's from the American release (so no JP text on-screen), but in Japanese in terms of audio, and I turned down the SFX and music to the lowest audible level.

Cell just says "your race" (きさまらの一族). No specific name, nothing about "frost" or anything. As suspected.VegettoEX wrote:Just got around to this. Hm, I've not seen the words フロスト悪魔 as being in the Japanese version, so it's false

Re: Was the term Frost Demon used in the series before Xenov
As far as the terminology goes, I don't mind them being called Frost Demons. Certainly far better than referring to an entire race as "Freeza Clan". The English dub filler referred to the Planet Traders as Arcosians, and that term has been used by fans, but it never specifically said it was referred to Freeza's race specifically. It was filler anyway. As far as being called a Frost Demon in Xenoverse, Cell does call you that when playing as the race and you have him as a Mentor. He'll say it in mission and as one of his random dialogues when talking to him in Toki Toki City.
As far as the naming foes, well "Frost" in Japanese is "Shimo". And demon is read as "Oni". Varitions exist so it's sometimes hard to pin down. Anyway, I feel that if it were to be used in Japanese it may be something like "Shioni-jin". Shi from "shimo", Frost, Oni from "Oni" meaning demon, and of course jin meaning "people". I think it could work, but that's just me having thoughts.
