Piccolo still acting like himself after fusing with Kami?

Post by DBZfan2015 » Wed May 11, 2016 11:36 am

After fusing with Kaimi on the Lookout, Piccolo makes a speech to Mr. Popo that he is no longer Piccolo. He refers to himself as the "Namek With No Name", implying his personality is different.

After Cell death's, He acts like his regular self, except he is stronger than before. Did Akira change his mind? It feels like there were other things that were dropped during the DBZ run.

He starts hanging out with Popo in the Lookout from then on, a place he'd never even visited until then (outside Garlic Junior filler). He acts as a mentor to Dende, which I guess could come from Piccolo (or Nail), but the "great job making those dragon balls!" bit feels very Kami. The fact that he knows who Kaioshin comes into play in the Boo arc. Plus his detailed knowledge of the Room of Spirit and Time (including knowing that Goku trained there as a kid). His comedic reactions in the Boo arc are also very similar to the comedy bits we got with Kami earlier.

I'm going to agree with Herms and say there's actually a pretty stark difference afterward. The dominant traits are still Piccolo's, but Toriyama did a remarkably consistent job selling the idea that he'd inherited a lifetime of memories from God, which influenced him moving forward.

He completely freaks out about the lookout being destroyed in the Boo arc, which is great.

Piccolo is one of my overall favorite characters, and one of the most unique in terms of character development and intricacies. Most of the stuff Herms mentioned are things I'd drawn parallels to, and connections I'd made thinking about the multiple personalities within the character's consciousness. Yet, the humorous reactions to things in the Buu saga I'd never made the correlation to Kami before. That makes perfect sense, all my years as a fan, and I even missed that one somehow. I am recalling his reactions to some of Gotenks' antics in my mind right now and mentally comparing it to a scene of Kami's reaction to King Enma's "I heard that Kami" when Kami tells Goku, "Lord Kaio is much stronger." Good comparison!
"Of" =/= "Have"

Contractions:
-Should have = Should've
-Could have = Could've
-Would have = Would've

The heck does "should of" even mean anyway? Think about what those two words mean individually, and then try to read them back to back in a sentence and make sense of it. Are you forming a prepositional phrase, is "should" a part of a larger grouping, or are you just typing random words based on how you think you hear them used verbally? Perhaps take a moment to contemplate this, and see if it becomes as mind jarring for you to look at as it does for me..

I love that quote at the end of your post. I literally want to strangle everyone who says COuld of would of. And yes I'm a jerk.

Also, its K-A-M-I. There is no Kaimi in this series.
