Toriyama said some harsh things about Yamcha

Post by YamchaLover69 » Sat May 21, 2016 4:59 pm

Back in 2013, when that terrible Battle of the Gods movie came out, there was an interview where a fan asked Yamcha if he will ever be happy and meanly laughs at the fan. He rudely said to the fan that he will never be happy , my feelings are hurt that Toriyama went out of his way just to do that to a fan  . Toriyama never apologized to the fan. If you don't believe me here is the interview http://www.kanzenshuu.com/tidbits/character-fates/

Then Spring of 2015 he did another interview where he said that Yamcha "had nothing left to live for" It's not fair , Kuririn is happy how come Yamcha can't be happy? It's because hes a human character that's not Krillin? Toriyama needs to please all the fans especially for Yamcha and all the original Dragon Ball characters. Do you guys think Toriyama is an asshole for him being mean to the fans? Do you think he should permanently kill off the characters that aren't relevant?

Here are the sources to the other thing Toriyama said :

Even if Toriyama said that Yamucha is the most incredible, happiest character in all of fiction, it would never change what happens to him. He has been overshadowed by every human fighter in the series. He had his girlfriend stolen by a guy who was responsible for him getting killed. He never married, never had a kid, and never amounted to anything now than a fun little cameo in the background. I don't even think he had a spoken line after he gets wished back after Boo killed him.

So forget what Toriyama said, just look at the character. He has been completely crapped on. But that's okay because Gohan is slowly creeping up on him in the crapped on department. I'm just waiting for Videl to leave him for Goten and have Gohan killed by Chaozu.

There is no lowly "fan" that Toriyama is somehow patronizing. Here are the actual quotes in context from our translations, all from standard/traditional press interviews or supplemental material Q&A sessions:

The laugher item you've mentioned comes from the 2004 kanzenban guide book Dragon Ball Forever. In Toriyama's Q&A, we see a question of "Was Yamcha able to become happy?" [In other words, "Did Yamcha ever find happiness in love?"]. Toriyama's response was:
Akira Toriyama wrote:He'll aaalways be like that. (laughs)
Toriyama is implying that Yamcha had perpetual bad luck with women, and the panel with him talking about how his girlfriend wants an expensive necklace reinforces that.

With regard the lives of several characters after the series asked by Mandō Kobayashi host Kendō Kobayashi in a Battle of Gods promotional segment, Toriyama responded about Yamcha:
Akira Toriyama wrote:Like you, KenKoba, he has the dilemma of loving women but not being good around them, so he is still wandering blindly in search of the ideal partner he won’t be nervous around. He’s even worked in a host club, but because of his nervousness, it didn’t go well and he was fired. His livelihood is mainly working together with Pu’er as a freelance bodyguard, but he occasionally goes to Tenshinhan’s to help with the farm, as well.
I don't see a translation on our site with "had nothing left to live for". I'm actually struggling here to come up with these other items. Either someone's making stuff up (I feel like I've come across one of those Tumblrs before, and it was someone taking a quote WAY out of context), or... well... I'm missing something, but it's probably nowhere near what you're making it out to be. Will keep digging and see what else I come up with, but yeah.

Wow, you must not know toriyama. He needs to please every fan? No, he doesn't and he loves to do the opposite.

my feelings are hurt
I feel like this is the motto for today's internet generation.

He's a fictional character, he's not real.

Just because an author is a jerk to his own character doesn't mean they are a jerk to his own fans. It's his own character he can do whatever the hell he wants to him and you have no control over it (unless you fly over to Japan and and bribe him Yen to make Yamcha relevant, but that's absurd thinking lol). Toriyama isn't personally attacking you he was just saying Yamcha's current status, at least that is better than ignoring the question right? Also would that make George Lucas and Lucas-films an "asshole" for being a jerk to the Jar Jar Binks fans? uuuuuuuuuuuh no! Yamcha is the Jar Jar Binks of the DBZ universe, he had full of potential in the beginning and eventually the creator made him an afterthought that everybody makes fun of nowadays. Also Team Four Star already sabotaged Yamcha's reputation by making him a schadenfreude machine (Like the happy tree friends) so next to no one but the butt-hurt Yamcha fans believe you. You should favor another character that Toriyama pays attention to.

Also I think the Topic Creator might be a troll.

EDIT: Nope, I dont think the TC is a troll. I KNOW it. Look at this message thing on his account!

Occupation:Help all of you Dragon Ball Z fans realize how heavily flawed and bad the show you are watching is and how Toriyama is a bad writer.

Interests:Yamcha and the Human characters and trash talking Akira Toriyama, the biggest asshole in the universe. >:(

No, I don't think he's an asshole just for writing his character in a way you don't like.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

What I mean by that was that Lucas made Jar Jar to be the next Chubacca, like how Yamcha was suppose to be the rival to Goku then they became afterthoughts.

Yamcha was never Goku's rival.

Not everyone is a troll. Some people are just very young, very impressionable, and very... let's say "enthusiastic" about their fictional loves.

Well, or maybe they're just a crazy person out for lulz. Whatever. Give them a chance, and if not, so be it. The fact that our site has the SEO wrapped up on all this nonsense simply means that anyone else looking for validation of Yamcha-bashing will invariably end up here and read some good stuff, as opposed to the Tumblr nonsense. Oh nose, Kanzenshuu wins again!

I just kind of looked at his post as the same as when people discuss how the series treats Gohan.

TheGreatness25, I'm not sure what your talking about but Gohan already is happy with a wife and kid and Gohan is a Saiyan and they are the Mary sue of the series that hog the spotlight and are the only useful characters on the show. Because Toriyama doesn't care for character balance.

If DBZ was the most balanced anime/manga in the world, then the series will be boring. :P

Hey, if you're going to post from two brand new accounts, try not to do it back-to-back in the same thread from the same IP address.

My bad for letting that slip through, all.
