Super on TV and home Release in the USA
For when Dragon Ball Super gets English dubbed by Funi for release, when the show it on TV, should they show Battle of Gods and Ressurection "F", the movies then go to Champa/Universe 6 and do a gt and release the "Lost Episodes" on DVD &Blu-Ray or show the 27 episodes and not the movies?

Re: Super on TV
Since GT, FUNimation has changed a lot regarding it's localization and release practices... Super will most likely be released in proper episode order from the get-go.
Also, we've heard nothing regarding a US TV broadcast of the films. We might get them on TV before Super, who knows?

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Re: Super on TV
I believe Sabat already stated that when they dub Super, they'd started from the beginning.

I see that, but it would be smarter to air the first few episodes (Million zeni, vegeta at the amusement park) and filler. episodes that don't involve the main plot and the movies?Lord Beerus wrote:I believe Sabat already stated that when they dub Super, they'd started from the beginning.

Re: Super on TV
I think they should release the 1st 2 arc on home video and just start with Champa but if they're going to start from the beginning they should air 2 episodes per week until they reach 28.

Re: Super on TV
I don't see them ever skipping unless Toonami wants them too. I still think skipping the first 16 episodes back in 2003 was a bad idea. Yeah the Black Star Dragon Ball hunt did suck, but the recap episode was poorly done and does not make a whole lot of sense if you didn't see what happen before it. It's like "We found the rest of them in Space. Whatever!".

The first 27 episodes will just destroy Super's reputation in NA. Just release it for Blu-Ray Purchase and go straight to Champa Arc. Unlike GT, we have the have movies that cover 99% of the first two seasons.

Nah. I don't see them skipping any of those episodes. It may be filler, but it's still part of the show.simtek34 wrote:I see that, but it would be smarter to air the first few episodes (Million zeni, vegeta at the amusement park) and filler. episodes that don't involve the main plot and the movies?Lord Beerus wrote:I believe Sabat already stated that when they dub Super, they'd started from the beginning.

Re: Super on TV
I don't think so, most of the people who wanted to watch Super already know about it. Kids (the target audience) could care less about retcons and reboots. I heard today's kids like bright cartoons, Super won't do too bad. Not expecting another DBZ tho, DBZ was a one time thingDragonHermit wrote:The first 27 episodes will just destroy Super's reputation in NA. Toyotarō: … I get the feeling I’ve just heard something amazing (laughs). Lord Beerus and Whis turn up in Dragon Ball Super, and have become an unsurpassable wall for Goku and the gang. What do the two of them mean to you?
Toriyama: Well… First off, right now I don’t have any plans for Goku and Vegeta to surpass Beerus and Whis.

Re: Super on TV
If it airs on Toonami, Its airing from episode 1. Because Jason De Marco doesnt believe in skipping filler or stuff like that and his word is final.

Re: Super on TV
People need to be patience. I hate that we live in a era that everyone wants things given to them right now. With the older DBZ movies after Movie 3 and GT, took us years to get them. I don't mind waiting since I don't want Funimation to rush things to keep up with the Japanese releases. I think Super will do fine on Toonami. Anime still does well on TV seeing that Akame Ga Kill got over 2 million views on it's first episode. I bet most people didn't know what AGK was until it air on Toonami. Even Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, Kill la Kill and Parasyte did well on the network.
Adult Swim always had anime on Saturday nights since 2002 and I think Super will do fine at the 11:30 PM timeslot. I don't see it happening on any other channel. I rather it have be on Toonami than CN putting at 6:00 AM like they did with Transformers: RID 2015.

Re: Super on TV
I really hope that around the time Super debuts in English-speaking countries the TV run will begin with Champa and Battle of Gods and Resurrection F arcs will be straight to home media. With how long we've been waiting for the Buu saga of Kai I think most fans will be happy to have more content released simultaneously. With Toonami as is, it's looking unlikely we'll get a Super dub released before 2018. Funimation could be well into the Universe 6 arc, or starting Goku Black by then if they are indeed dubbing right now. Having two arcs on Blu-Ray while another begins airing on TV will make up for the time we got no new non-Kai material this year and next.

Argh, hate that channel. Always puts spoilers in his video titles.

It'll be interesting to see where the franchise and Super will be in 2018.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:With Toonami as is, it's looking unlikely we'll get a Super dub released before 2018.

They're going to want to keep DB on TV for as long as possible so the chances of them skipping anything are slim to none.

Re: Super on TV
The reason people aren't patient is because Toei takes too long.Hellspawn28 wrote:People need to be patience. I hate that we live in a era that everyone wants things given to them right now.
IF the Buu arc airs right after Cell, it will have been nearly 3 years since it debuted in Japan, 3 years for something that has been worked on for years by Funimation and is just a re-cut of old material.
And the same thing will apply to Super, starting nearly 3 years after its debut and to make thing worse, it'll just be the movie retellings so that'll be an extra 6-7 months of waiting for the new material.
Imagine if movies and video games released like that ? in today's world there's no excuse what so ever to take that long and what will happen if Toonami goes off the air for whatever reason ? we'll have to wait for another network to pick it up which will take time and that network will want to get as much out of the deal as possible so they might start with Kai or maybe even the original DB before moving to Super so that'll be an extra 5 or more years of waiting.
Kai, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Fairy tail and countless other anime go to home video first so why has that changed now ?

Re: Super on TV
The problem is that a lot of fans will get bored of the movie retellings. The casual fans might even drop Super if they end up believing its just a pure rehash series. Heck, a lot of people aren't as hyped about Buu Kai because it's been so long.sintzu wrote:It'll be interesting to see where the franchise and Super will be in 2018.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:With Toonami as is, it's looking unlikely we'll get a Super dub released before 2018.

I agree with your point about it being interesting to see where the franchise is at in 2018. If Super continues making money it could still be running in Japan, or we could have another new series set after the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai.
Either way unless the series ends again Funimation will still be way behind other international DB dubs, having the first two Super arcs go straight to Blu-Ray gives them the chance to start Super with a lot of momentum because if their dub is going to be as perfect as they say it is people will be even more hyped going from Buu Kai to Champa on Toonami (or even if they air the Battle of Gods and Resurrection F movies in between) because Super will be kicking off already with an A-game dub for 27 episodes that's still going, and people who don't usually buy the home releases will start from episode 28 and if they like the dub for that episode will be enticed to buy Super Part 1 and Part 2 (or whatever Funimation ends up calling the home releases).
If Dragon Ball is still getting new material (be it Super or another series) by 2018 I don't see any reason why it won't stay on American TV as long as possible, even if the first two Funi Super arcs are straight to home media.

It will but if Toonami goes off the air again for whatever reason then we'll have to wait for another network to pick it up and probably sit through all of Kai AGAIN.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:If Dragon Ball is still getting new material (be it Super or another series) by 2018 I don't see any reason why it won't stay on American TV as long as possible.

Re: Super on TV
Anyway, if Toei still wants Funimation to air the retellings and there is not another series after super, Funi can air them on tv at 7:00 like the Kai reruns.
