Dragon Ball Super airing on Nick 2017?
I posted this on reddit so I'll bring it here too. I don't know if this is true or not, but the Hebrew-language version of DB Super (from what I've seen on YouTube) seems to be airing on Nickelodeon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1CTdD4oHr8). It seems legit to me, at least.
So, based on this fact and the previous history and success that Nick had with Dragon Ball Z Kai/GT/Movies - I believe Nick (instead of Cartoon Network, once again) will be the kids network that will air DB Super. And unlike Kai, I have a feeling Nick might air DB Super on BOTH their main channel and Nicktoons due to their past success with DB. For example, maybe DB Super airs alongside the only other action cartoon that Nick currently has set for 2017: Power Rangers Ninja Steel - on main Nick. And Nicktoons is where they have the marathons and maybe even eventually becomes the place for premiere episodes of DB Super, if Nick ever takes Super off their main channel. Nick also used to air Legend of Korra so it makes sense they might want to air DB Super (even though they took Korra off their network)
So, to summarize my reasons:
1.Nick's past history/success with DB series/movies
2.DB Super being a slightly more kid-friendly series, which makes it easier to air on Nick's main channel
3. The recently announced U.S toyline coming summer 2017 means Toei/Bandai are aiming at kids, and Adult Swim is definitely not a kids network
As for Dragon Ball Kai's Buu Saga, I feel like Toonami will handle this as it currently has the TV rights - and many fans speculate we'll see it in December. Stilll, to hype up DB Super - I could see Nick possibly also getting Kai's TV rights (similar to CW) and next year - Nick airs all of Kai (1.0 and 2.0) leading right into DB Super. This also works to refresh younger fans on all of Z before heading into the sequel series.
To me, unless Cartoon Network surprises everyone - Nick seems like DB's home for the younger fans (Although Disney XD could suddenly surprise everyone, but I doubt it because they didn't seem to care much for Naruto Shippuden as time went on). Also, if DB Super aired on Nick as it is now - I could see Dragon Ball getting a nice little popularity resurgence that's not on par with DBZ, but still enough to get people outside the hardcore group invested again. And don't worry, uncut-lovers - I'm sure Adult Swim's Toonami would definitely air an uncut DB Super.

Re: Speculation: Dragon Ball Super airing on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in the U.S 2017?
I already made a thread about this.
...BUT I LOVE YOU ANYWAY! We need to see DB Super on some mainstream kids channel. Its Dragon Ball for a new generation and they dont get to see it.

EXACTLY!!! I saw your thread too and you made some good points. And also, thanks for the nice reply. I thought you were going to egotistically go over why this would never work and be one of those annoying fans who can't deal with another fans' opinion or speculation.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I already made a thread about this.

But yeah, I could be wrong and for all we know - DB Super could ONLY air on Toonami. But if it does, there is NO WAY it will bring in a new generation of younger fans in the same way it would if it aired on Nick and its related channels. First of all, Toonami airs once a week for like - three hours. And many younger kids aren't going to spend their Saturday nights staying up just to watch ONE episode of DB Super like the hardcore older fans (like from maybe 12 and up) would. Those younger kids are either going to be sleep OR doing something else with their time.
Now, if it aired on Nick or Nicktoons and had many marathons and also aired at an earlier time - Then, I could see Dragon Ball gaining a new generation of younger fans in the same way Kai got a new generation of fans interested in Dragon Ball. The only way I could see Toonami working is if it moved Toonami back to like 9pm - 2am or something and also aired DB Super on Weekdays at like 8pm or something before Adult Swim OFFICIALLY begins.
Another quick thing I want to say: I know many fans are afraid of censorship, but THERE'S NOT TOO MUCH TO CENSOR WHEN IT COMES TO DB SUPER. Also, some fans want it to air on Toonami and think Toonami is all DB needs to air on - But I feel they're not considering that this would not really expand Dragon Ball in the same way Nick would. Still, i wouldn't mind if DB Super aired on both Nick and Toonami because this pleases the new and old crowd and also expands Dragon Ball's popularity resurgence even more!

Re: Speculation: Dragon Ball Super airing on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in the U.S 2017?
It COULD air on the 8PM slot on Adult Swim but yeah. Airing DB Super right next to The Loud House would be ideal since that's the highest rated Nick show beating even Spongebob. What worried me is that the last Anime launch on the channel (Digimon Fusion) was a major flop. But if any anime deserves a chance at a nice timeslot on Nick is Dragon Ball.
Re: Speculation: Dragon Ball Super airing on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in the U.S 2017?
Dude, it's like we're thinkin' the same thoughts. I also considered that DB Super would be airing alongside Nick's first hit show in years. Still, I'm not sure if Nick would air it on both Nick and Nicktoons - But I kinda hope they DB was successful on Nicktoons. Also, I just really think airing it on both Nick and Nicktoons would be really good for Dragon Ball and Toei's desired TV deal (also the fact that the toyline, like you said is aimed at kids).Cure Dragon 255 wrote:It COULD air on the 8PM slot on Adult Swim but yeah. Hey, but maybe Cartoon Network will shock us and we'll have DB Super (edited and uncut) on Cartoon Network in the daytime and Toonami on Saturday nights - But for now, I doubt this.

Yeah. I said that didn't I? You really do think a lot like me. Did you read some of my older posts? Tee hee.
But yeah, I think the hold up with DB Super might be because there are channels in bidding war for it. I know Digimon was a major flop but the "Dragon Ball" franchise is an evergreen one. That will bring huge ratings to the channel that earns the license...
...Or it could be something else. But the thought of a bidding war just sounds mega ultra exciting!

Re: Speculation: Dragon Ball Super airing on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in the U.S 2017?
Yeah, that does sound exciting and even though I feel Nick is a good fit for airing Dragon Ball Super - I still cringe that besides the one good Nick show, it will still air among all their teen crap superhero shows and I just saw a cringe commercial about one of their shows and the characters were doing a dance move that I don't even want to bring up on this sacred place. Still, Dragon Ball Super could air alongside Power Rangers AND Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles now that I think about it. Maybe, Nick could make a new sort of Toonami block that airs weekdays with all three shows. Maybe two DB Supers, Power Rangers, followed by TMNT? I doubt it, but it could happen.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:Yeah. I said that didn't I? You really do think a lot like me. Did you read some of my older posts? Tee hee.

Re: Speculation: Dragon Ball Super airing on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in the U.S 2017?
I think Dragon Ball is too mainstream to be associated with Power Rangers and TMNT LOL. Loud House or bust lol.
Ok, I'm sorry that was mean to PR and TMNT, but I still mantain that Dragon Ball should try and stand on its own two feet along the highest rated show on Nick. And before anyone says "Well, Nick would never give such treatment to an adquisition, look at Alvin and The Chimpmunks. They arent Nick's wholesale yet more than 2 more seasons have been commisioned and air right along TLH.
Also, Disney XD adquired almost the ENTIRETY of the Beyblade franchise. That should be a motivator for Nick to step up their anime game, especially since Dragon Ball DOES have a new upcoming toyline now.
I heard that Hasbro is earning some nice money from Yokai Watch, and soon Beyblade will follow. Nickelodeon has Power Rangers which has a Toyline by Bandai which is precedent to Dragon Ball's own Bandai line.
It would be so nice to see Dragon Ball on Weekday afternoons again. Like Toonami used to be. Even Jason de Marco said that many kidsnets want Super.
And hey, even if Nick adquires it and it flops or is otherwise mistreated, we know Toonami will be right there to pick up the slack.

Having it next to TMNT on Nick would be the best spot for Super I think.
It'd be an "action hour".

Re: Speculation: Dragon Ball Super airing on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in the U.S 2017?
Oh yeah, that Bandai thing is a good point which might add the why Super fits on Nick. Would you want it on Nick or Nicktoons or both though? Also, apparently someone from Toei said we are in for more announcements (besides the simulcast) regarding DB Super before the end of the year. Still, this might only regard an announcement for the English dub - but it'd be nice if they announced the dub for even earlier than summer 2017. Maybe May 2017 like when Kai aired May 2010 (also it would air when Guardians: Vol. 2 comes out)? Maybe, February or March? Who knows at this point - DB is so unpredictable when it comes to Funimation/Toei.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I think Dragon Ball is too mainstream to be associated with Power Rangers and TMNT LOL. Also, yeah - I feel an action hour sort of thing would be awesome because it wouldn't feel weird with DB Super being preceded AND followed by something like Spongebob. Man, never knew I'd be talking about so many Nick shows on a Dragon Ball discussion - But it fits considering DB Super could be airing on Nick or Nicktoons like Kai did. Also, didn't Kai air on main Nickelodeon once (not Nicktoons) when it first aired? Does anyone remember? I think it was a Sunday? Not important, but still just wondering.

I think Kai was only on Nicktoons, I would hope Super would be on regular Nick though.

On Nick or on Nicktoons you ask?
I think Nick would be more demanding with edits, especially if they wanted to air it on a time where it can be seen by as many children as possible. There's also the fact that airtime could be limited to either just Saturday or Mon thru Fri. Those are the only downsides to just Main Nick. On the Other Hand there's a precedent for decent treatment of Dragon Ball on Nicktoons. Nicktoons LOVED Dragon Ball, they aired it constantly, and more importantly allowed the story to stay intact. I doubt they will allow Gods, but that can be side stepped like they did with Kami. I bet purists would love to see Hakaishin intact on the dub LOL.

Couldnt they also sell the DBZ trading cards, toyline, Dragon Ball Fusions, and Dokkan Battle with this? Kids would like those?

Ask Bandai and Funimation. They've been REALLY slacking off in the kids marketing department. I hate to say but since they've become more otaku friendly they've been lazy with kid friendly stuff.
And this is REALLY sad because kids nowadays DO want faithful anime. Look at how well DBZKai did on Nicktoons and even on The CW and how badly every Macekre has done. Also look at latin america, fully uncut Dragon Ball and the kids just gobble it up!
There's no reason to stop marketing at children just because your anime is faithfully dubbed.
@Arched Thunder. It wasnt heavy. I watched every episode it was fine. Give me examples of why you feel this way.

They removed many heavy blows (especially face shots), they removed body piercing moments and "threatening" moments as well. One example would be removing Cell shooting a point blank blast through Piccolo, so instead he just picks him up and throws him, completely changing the scene, another is a Cell Jr. growing his nails and pointing them at Krillin's neck to show that he would stab him, but it was completely removed. There's tons of comparison videos on youtube.Cure Dragon 255 wrote: @Arched Thunder. It wasnt heavy. I watched every episode it was fine. Give me examples of why you feel this way.
Re: Speculation: Dragon Ball Super airing on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in the U.S 2017?
Their edits weren't atrociously bad though and they kept words like "Heaven" in the series. Also, if you any doubts about Nicktoons - You should've seen their Fusion Reborn dub airing. They kept Goku getting stabbed by Janemba and blood gushing and Vegeta saying "Hell". The only thing they took out was the "Dictator" stuff, if you know what I mean (and for good reason). Also, their airing of Dragon Ball GT: A Hero's Legacy kept the words SATAN CITY. I was worried for Nickelodeon that day.ArchedThunder wrote:They removed many heavy blows (especially face shots), they removed body piercing moments and "threatening" moments as well. I know, but I dont really mind those. Its time to accept that if we want Dragon Ball to be widely available on kids TV editing is necesary.
I was personally fine with the levels of editing present on Nicktoons. And its not like there's no uncut DVD's to soften the blow. Plus when Nick finally gets tired of it Toonami will be there to air it uncut anyways. I really dont see any downsides to this.
Re: Speculation: Dragon Ball Super airing on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in the U.S 2017?
Yeah, I'm sure kid fans would be a big part of the merchandise if Funimation/Toei tried to focus more of their younger demographic like they did back in the day instead of only to the otaku crowd (like one person said). And Dragon Ball Super has more potential than GT ever did to strike it big with a new generation of fans because GT was more or less only successful as a sequel to Z. Also, GT didn't focus on the Z-era characters - which made it less of a success.simtek34 wrote:Couldnt they also sell the DBZ trading cards, toyline, Dragon Ball Fusions, and Dokkan Battle with this? Dragon Ball Super, however, focuses on the Z-era characters and although it is a sequel to Z - It refreshes fans on Z and with Kai having aired in recent years, kids who grew up on Kai will be more than ready for DB Super because it takes place after Z (except for the fact that we still lack the Buu Saga of Kai, which could air on Nick or JUST Toonami, probably the latter). But yeah, I got sidetracked. Yeah, kids are the perfect demographic for all the merchandise.
