Do you think Gohan turning SSJ2 over #16 is a bad catalyst?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Do you think Gohan turning SSJ2 over #16 is a bad catalyst?

I hear from some people claim that #16 'dying' being the thing to trigger Gohan going SSJ2 as forced and weak because prior to his death he was a robot designed to kill his father but I don't think that's fair. #16 put his robo life on the line to save Earth only to be blasted to pieces and reduced to nothing but a head, then in quite possibly the most pitiful moment of the entire series he pleads for Gohan to drop his restraints so he can protect the animals and nature that he, too, had loved as his 'dying' wish before Cell callously crushes his head mocking him further as a failed machine.

Also it's not like it was only #16's 'death' that pushed him to the edge. Cell spent pretty much the entire fight trying to provoke him despite warnings... just so he can have a challenge, even going as far as to having his children brutalize his friends to death least he rages.

What do y'all think?

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

No, because it wasn't really about Sixteen himself and any non-existent history he shared with Gohan. It was about Sixteen being the perfect messenger for what Gohan needed to hear. The point was that Gohan was peace-loving and reluctant to fight, and he needed a wake-up call from someone with a similar mindset.

Sixteen then immediately being killed by Cell really drove that "sometimes bad people just need to be stopped by force" point home and was the last little push Gohan required.
