You just met Akira Toriyama

Post by ChiefWamsutta » Mon Jan 23, 2017 10:35 pm

You are given V.I.P. access to the home of Akira Toriyama.

You are able to only ask him one question which he will answer genuinely. What question would you ask him?

I'd ask if he retconned Goku's power after Resurrection 'F'.

I'd ask him if I could help him write dragon ball super. He couldn't refuse.

Can I have a drink?

You don't need to see Akira Toriyama to ask that question, and besides.

I'd congratulate him for giving the series its first female SSJ.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Why are people acting like he would reveal some sort of mystery?

Literally everything about Akira Toriyama and his work on Dragonball has already been revealed in the various interviews he's had over the years. We know what he thinks of the characters, why he wrote sagas the way he did, why he changed things due to his editor, why he originally stopped, etc.

While some insight into Super's production would be interesting, its probably not much more than vague outlines. I mean what else could be asked?

The Super behind-the-scenes stuff is interesting (even fascinating, as far as how curious I am about some of it), but it's all trivia. A number of people involved might be able to answer it.

I'd ask him open-endedly what his favorite self-authored series is, and hopefully get a bit of the "why." We've gotten a lot of the trivia, but never a lot of reflection.

I'd ask him what his original idea for the Artificial Human arc was. And in what direction the story would have gone with No.19 and 20 as the villains.

I'd want to ask him:
If he could rewrite the story from the beginning of Dragonball without any editors being involved, what would be some of the major changes?

Genuinely I think that'd be interesting. We know the Android saga was plagued with executive meddling. I wonder what plans he had for that arc to unfold with Gero and 19 as the main antagonists for example.

Edit: oops sniped on the latter part.

Except nearly everything hasn't been revealed. Like Freeza we still don't know if his form's are suppression's, whenever or not he's asexual, his father, his race. The name of his race. What does he think of Buu? Meh we know that. Yes we know all of that, but we still need to know so much more.

I doubt Toriyama even thinks about this stuff though. He'll probably just say, "Whatever you want it to be, lol"

I'm afraid that, that is the case, and me over thinking his work is a fool's folly.

If I talked to Akira Toriyama I would tell him that I'm a big fan of his work and thank him for all the entertainment that his work has given me. That's basically it. I wouldn't know what to ask him. Perhaps I would ask him if he's happy with how his work has turned out and why.

Hello good sir! How are you today?

He ain't gonna reveal anything new really, we have his insight on db already..

If I had to ask no matter what, I might go with will you make gohan fight seriously again? Or will he make older cast powerful again?

I'm 99% certain he'd reply with "Dr. Slump" without any hesitation.

I would ask him to give me a copy of his outline. Whether I share it on the internet or just keep it to myself is something I'll decide after I get it.

Imagine if I said FemBroly is going to be a thing a few weeks earlier. You'd laugh at me.

Other than that, I'll probably trash all his cigarettes just to troll the troller.

I'd ask him to reflect on one piece of artistic influence that was not obvious in any way (things like wuxia tales, American cinema... all the stuff we already know about), that he thinks no-one else would have been able to guess, and how it subtly affected or guided his writing of the series. Maybe it's not something that he even consciously thought about back during serialization, but reflecting on now, makes sense that it shaped him as Dragon Ball's author.

"Is a hot dog a sandwich?"

I'd ask about when exactly he decided Goku was an alien.
