Cheap digital DBZ seasons at the Microsoft Store
For those of you who don't owe DBZ, this is a pretty cheap alternative. Of course it's widescreen (cropped) and "HD". It's probably the same image from the latest seasons disc release. It's on sale so hurry up. The first season is free, the second and third are $5 each, the rest are $10 each.

Hmm when I try to play the Season 1 episodes, they look like Orange Brick footage.
Re: Cheap digital DBZ seasons at the Microsoft Store
Awesome deal, the whole series for $70. Shame that MS video isn't supported on more devices.

Re: Cheap digital DBZ seasons at the Microsoft Store
They probably have it where the HD version uses the level set footage while the SD version uses the widescreen version (and what probably happened was you bought the SD version instead of the HD version which is why it looks like OB footage), that's how the PS3 PSN does it so I'd check on that and see if that's the problem.thaman91 wrote:Hmm when I try to play the Season 1 episodes, they look like Orange Brick footage.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

The blu-ray set should be of the same source as the level set, at least it is with the Buu saga I have.simtek34 wrote:Yes I am sure. I just got it and it looks it to me.SaiyanGod117 wrote:Are you sure?simtek34 wrote:Season 1 uses the Level Set remaster. So FREE LEVEL SETS!

The whole color correction works should had finished before Funimation started the digital repair on the level set.
Re: Cheap digital DBZ seasons at the Microsoft Store
Could be. When I went to "purchase" the free Season 1, there was no option to select SD or HD. So I guess the free option just defaults to the SD Orange Brick version?superrayman3 wrote: They probably have it where the HD version uses the level set footage while the SD version uses the widescreen version (and what probably happened was you bought the SD version instead of the HD version which is why it looks like OB footage), that's how the PS3 PSN does it so I'd check on that and see if that's the problem.

I highly doubt that they're the Levels, especially since they only released up to episode 34. However, if they are, they should be 4:3 and grainy, like so:simtek34 wrote:Yes I am sure.
Hope that helps, I wouldn't want anyone to be mislead or misinformed, but if these are what you say... what the actual hell? Maybe they had them left over from the they're console store release, or something.
Edit: Got the first Season, since it was free and all, and it's definitely from the Orange Bricks (Maybe the Blu-rays, the skin tones don't match with what I remember from them, but I just recently tweaked my monitor settings). It's an understandable misconception if you don't know what the original is supposed to look like.
Either way, I definitely recommend these since they are so cheap.
The Level Sets never even came close to reaching the Boo Arc, so you're mistaken. The color correction isn't even close. They're just HD versions of the Orange Bricks. If you like that look, cool! Most people are fine with it, anyway. Let's not misrepresent what they are, though.lansing wrote:The blu-ray set should be of the same source as the level set, at least it is with the Buu saga I have.

Edit: ...unless when you said "source", you mean the masters they've been using since 2007, in which case, you're right. It has little to do with the final result, though, since Funimation took such a radically different approach to restoring the source with the 3 releases since they acquired said source.

From what you describe I assume that's the case with the HD version still being pay only, that's the only possible explanation I can think of.thaman91 wrote:Could be. Re: Cheap digital DBZ seasons at the Microsoft Store
Not the case, I downloaded Season 1 in HD for free without a problem. The HD version is OB or Season Blu-ray footage for sure, by the way (going to officially compare later, once everything has downloaded). The guy who called it Level footage just hasn't seen Level footage before.superrayman3 wrote:From what you describe I assume that's the case with the HD version still being pay only, that's the only possible explanation I can think of.thaman91 wrote:Could be. I know what Level footage looks like. I was assuming because Xbox had the level footage for season 1 before, so I was assuming they still did.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Not the case, I downloaded Season 1 in HD for free without a problem. Re: Cheap digital DBZ seasons at the Microsoft Store
Is Kikuchi's score still there? I won't even consider buying the seasons if Faulconer's incessant and unfitting crap is backing the show.

Re: Cheap digital DBZ seasons at the Microsoft Store
Firstly, it wouldn't be the Faulconer score either way. The Faulconer score didn't kick in until "Ginyu Assault," way past Season 1the Saiyan arc. But I would assume they're done with the Kikuchi score seeing as Hulu and Funimation Now only offered the dub with the Kikuchi score.
Re: Cheap digital DBZ seasons at the Microsoft Store
I never said that the level set reaches the Boo saga, I said the color correction by Steven Franko on the anime should had finished, judging from the color in the Boo saga Blu-ray. So even though the level set were cut on the early stage, the color corrected source should be there already.Jinzoningen MULE wrote: The Level Sets never even came close to reaching the Boo Arc, so you're mistaken.
Anyone who has the orange brick feel free to compare them, but I highly doubt that they are the same like you said.

There's an option for both scores.floofychan333 wrote:Is Kikuchi's score still there? I won't even consider buying the seasons if Faulconer's incessant and unfitting crap is backing the show.

OK then, if they're still available when I get a job I might buy them.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:There's an option for both scores.floofychan333 wrote:Is Kikuchi's score still there? I won't even consider buying the seasons if Faulconer's incessant and unfitting crap is backing the show.

Re: Cheap digital DBZ seasons at the Microsoft Store
I'd hate to promote something, but dude, $50 a year for Funimation Now, you get (what Jinzoningen MULE so nicely confirmed to me over PM) Blu-ray season footage of all of Z, you get the movies, DB, GT, Super (subbed for now, probably dubbed in the near future), and access to an entire library of their other works (such as Yu Yu Hakusho, which I am currently enjoying). Just throwing it out there. Yeah, you don't "own" anything, but it's a hell of a bargain.
