Does the Genki-Dama have the user’s power?

Post by GreatSaiyaman123 » Fri Apr 08, 2022 12:22 pm

I know Goku says in the Saiyan Saga that he’s used all of his Ki to make that Genki-Dama, but I’m not sure if it was the effort or him donating his power that wasted him. What you guys think?

Goku would always use the spirit bomb when he used up all of his power and he can't defeat his opponent by himself. From what we've seen, Goku never actually puts his own power to the Genki Dama. That would make sense since it isn't actually a ki blast, it's an energy bomb from OTHER living things' latent energy, or spirit. Hence the name "Spirit Bomb" or "Genki Dama".

Genki means 'vigour' in Japanese. It's probably referencing the physical energy of the person. Might be why Gohan's contribution alone wasn't enough to overwhelm Kid Buu or why the cyborgs couldn't act as a faucet of limitless power.

Lorium_0 explained it. Goku is usually exhausted by the time he turns to the Spirit Bomb. It's supposed to be a collective weaponisation of everyone and everything's genki.

They made a big deal about the inhabitants of Earth(and even Enma's crew) needing to donate most of their Genki...but Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo didn't seem to give all they could. It's established in the ToP that only a handful of stronger lifeforms can give a lot more Genki than loads of weaker ones so we have an idea on just who was holding out in the Boo situation.

The ToP makes it a bit confusing because he was in fairly good condition. Kaio’s explanation is that the Genki Dama gathers energy from other things, but he doesn’t really say Goku’s energy is excluded from it.

They do say “Ki” instead of “Genki” sometimes, so it seems like there’s an overlap. I always thought Gohan wasn’t revived at full power in the Boo Saga, just like Vegeta wasn’t either. Also explains why the boys didn’t fuse or at least go Super Saiyan.

Goku wasn't in "fairly good condition" during the TOP. If that were the case, he wouldn't have had to achieve UI due to that Genki Dama.

I already said it, the Genki Dama is an energy bomb from other living things 1. Energy and 2. Spirit. Energy as in ki and spirit as in their hopes and dreams. This was explained during the Saiyan Saga.

Genki, as Lionel said, means vigour/spirit. It can also mean being fine, stimulated or energetic. Meaning Genki can be used to describe energy, as in ki being the latent energy of a living thing.

A bit of headcanon here trying to connect information from different sources, but here it goes...

As has been said by Lorium_O and Lionel the Genki Dama is different from your typical ki blast for a few reasons. Obviously it uses the Genki of all things as is shown, but it must be given willingly.

From what I can understand, I don't think most beings can really give much influence over their Genki or control it. So it seems that unless someone trained specifically in Genki with King Kai they probably don't have a ton of control. Also, it could be that certain entities have a set amount of Genki that doesn't fluctuate much or it is harder to grow one's Genki. One other aspect is distance. I think if Goku was on Earth during the Buu Genki Dama he would charge it much much faster.

This helps explain why so much Genki from so many sources is needed to defeat Buu, but during the TOP the relatively small group can give a massive amount of Genki. I say this because I believe the amount given by Goku and U7 was so massive because they have trained in Genki (at least most of them) and are so close, so it develops much quicker.

So yes I believe Goku can give Genki, but not his regular "Ki" to the Genki Dama. It probably still exhausts him though, and as we've seen, an exhausted character is less powerful even if they can still produce Ki (Frieza is a great example).

Some of this is just me trying to make sense of stuff and isn't really spelled out though, so take it as you see fit.

That's not the case at all. The only reason the people on Earth got so exhausted when giving out their Genki was because they're brainless NPCs who don't understand how to control their ki.

Moreover, yes, Genki (in this matter at least) DOES mean ki. I say that because of the phrase "Lend me your energy". Energy in Dragon Ball = ki.

There's no need to complicate things for the sake of a battle power argument in the infamous topic of Majin Boo. Whether the Genki-dama takes only their energy or not, the attack can be backed by power once it gets kickstarted, since Vegeta suggested to take Ki up to their limits and not just Genki in the small amounts predicted by Goku. That way nobody has to be contradicted.

Even if the Genki-Dama doesn't contain the user's power, Goku having exhausted his ki in this context makes sense. Not only is he exhausted from using the Kaioken excessively, but he logically requires his own ki in order to concentrate on gathering Genki from other lifeforms and then having to control that energy. Controlling a large mass of energy would inherently deplete Goku's stamina so Goku being completely exhausted from using the Genki-Dama makes sense even if it doesn't contain any of his energy.

They gave their genki which is only one like third (not even for sure an even third) of what makes up ki. That's why Gohans energy alone didn't wipe out kid buu, and why they still have energy left.

The ToP having like 10 tired people making a genki dama bigger than the buu saga was anime only bullshit. "Disregard that Frank"

I think it probably takes the users genki, at least the same amount it takes from anyone else. If they also want to put ALL their own Genki in like was done differently in the Buu saga I suppose they could manually squeeze it out and give it away in that same way. If it's a last ditch effort you have no reason not to put all your own genki in it.
